Unverified Reports7/17/2008 - Hurricane Harbor water park - Submitted by bboehlke on 7/18/2008A little girl went down a flume just two people ahead of us. I saw her at one of the bends, spinning around like a spider on its back. She was very little. We were waiting quite a while for the lifeguard to let the next person go. She was very diligent in not letting riders go down the slide until the previous rider had exited out the bottom. (I ALWAYS watch for this!) The little girl didn't come out after a very long time. There was some kind of commotion at the bottom, whistles started blowing, and we were all told that the slide was closed. The little boy in front of me (her big brother?) peeked over the edge and said, "Oh no! Excuse me, I gotta get out of here!" then ran down the stairs.) We headed down the steps, and before we got down, everyone else was evacuating the structure (One of those climbing, sliding, buckets-of-water-dumping play areas). When we got off, I noticed that everyone was staring at something. I asked a man what was going on, and he said there was a girl stuck in the purple tube (which was where we'd been.) He said something about lifeguards and paramedics working on her and he said he'd seen them lifting her arms above her head, but he wasn't sure if she was alive. When we reached my husband, he said there were a bunch of paramedics and lifeguards sprinting toward the area where I'd just been. That area of the park was closed for at least another hour and a half, and the last I saw of it, thousands of people were staring concernedly at that area of the structure. Obviously this ended up being a very serious accident. I'd love to be able to stop worrying about this little girl and her brother. All we could do was pray, but we didn't stick around, for fear that my little girl would witness something terrible.3/29/1980 - The Whizzer - Submitted by calig on 7/22/2003 I was working in the control posiiton monitoring the trains on the track. It was a raining day/evening shift and rid ops mechanics had been called out a couple of times to fix trains sticking in a brake near the station. As I was about to change positions with my relief person, I watched the last train round the bend and shoot the brake, as it headed for the station where riders were loading and unloading. The trains collided launching one train up the tracks and causing the rear train to bounce backwards. A 13 year old boy fell backwards into the tracks and I didn't notice him as I hit the button to shut the entire ride down. The train had come forward and locked on top of the boy. Many people were were strewn around the platform injured. Passangers attempted to roll the train back off of the boy, but he died that day as I watched security try to administer CPR. Terrible accident that I can see in my mind to this day.
