Starting with the 2019 awards, six finalists are determined in each category, based upon the highest average reader ratings (with a minimum number of votes) from among the eligible locations listed on ThemeParkInsider.com. A reader poll, published on the front page of the site, determines the category's winner from among the six finalists. (Previous awards were determined solely by the reader ratings, without the final poll.)
