We know Disney won't take Universal staking out a park in the UK lying down. A full-scale Disneyland London isn't likely as Paris so close but wondering if some sort of mini-park on outskirts of London.
They can use that Mary Poppins teacups ride intended for Epcot and a couple of smaller attractions themed to England (Great Mouse Detective can get its due!) in a smaller space. Doesn't have to be a huge park something more quaint and small but still a UK presence for Disney.
I loved that place in Chicago.
I honestly can't see a Disney Park of any description being sited anywhere near London. There simply isn't any brown belt land available and they are already , contentiously, grabbing valuable green belt land for homes. That's bad enough.
I have to admit, and this may not go down well with some , that I'm not very excited by the prospect of having Universal UK either.
I love the Parks in Florida and California but they seem a little incongruous here in the UK. Possibly because they lack that American feel. It just won't be the same. Although they do work in Asia. Yet Paris ? Not for me.
Coupled with that is the weather issue. Even in summer we can get all four seasons in one day. That has to affect the type of rides they can provide. Much like the issue with the Cars ride proposed for Magic Kingdom. That can't be the same as California Adventure because of the weather conditions and could be overly disrupted by Florida's extreme weather at certain times. Too much downtime due to storms puts pressure on the other attractions and lines get longer.
Anyway, with regard to Universal UK and any proposed Disney site , I'm not being mean spirited in any way. I simply think that the UK doesn't fit the profile of the great American Parks. They work better, for me, in the US.
Something tells me that "lets build a purposely inferior version of what our competition is doing, next to our competition" is going to get much traction.
In all seriousness there is some merit to the statement that they won't take it lying down so they will probably up the capex $ to Disneyland Paris.
Disney already has a “mini park” near London. Disneyland Paris.
Yeah there's no such thing as a Disney Mini- park anymore, not since Disney Quest. All a Disney Park would do is complete with its own counterpart in Paris.
Disney doesn't build parks, they build resorts. There is no way a Disney resort in the UK wouldn't cannibalize from both Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney World, so that would likely offset anything that would be gained from building such a resort. If Disney really feels threatened by the Universal project, a third park in Paris is far, far more likely than any new project elsewhere in Europe.
Disney gave up on DisneyQuest too early.
