Disney kills AI deal after OpenAI dumps Sora
Remember that deal that Disney made with OpenAI, to license its animation characters for use in the Sora AI video app?
Well, forget about it. It's dead. Disney is dropping its $1 billion deal with the company now that OpenAI has announced that it is discontinuing the Sora app. Here is a story: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/digital/openai-shutting-down-sora-ai-video-app-1236546187/

Well, at least Disney still has a character named Sora they can save all the trademarks for.
Is Silicon Valley finally beginning to acknowledge that there is little to no consumer demand for generative AI products?
I see this as a win. The longer AI can stay out of theme parks, the better.
The use of AI has been standard in the design management and construction management of theme park attractions for more than a couple of years.
According to the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI is placing a stronger focus on business customers. They’re planning to begin unification of all their desktop applications:
“An OpenAI spokeswoman said the new ‘superapp’ will enable teams inside OpenAI to work more closely together… Over the coming months, the company expects to add new ‘agentic’ capabilities within its Codex app so it can help with productivity-related tasks beyond coding before merging ChatGPT and the Atlas browser into the superapp as well. The mobile ChatGPT app will remain unchanged.”
I’m cautiously optimistic for how this could improve my work as a software engineer. But I definitely don’t need officially licensed Disney animation characters in my code…

Wait... So Disney was trying to create AI generated movies!?
