Universal Studios Hollywood this afternoon opened Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift for public technical rehearsals.

And I'm out of town today. Sigh.

The POVs look great and are really hyping me up for the Orlando Version. No onride theming, though. Couldn't have scraped up a few road signs?

What, tremendous views of the 101 aren’t enough? 😂

I don't mind the lack of theming on the course - the spectacular views pretty much make up for that. My minor nitpick is the lack of music as the on-board audio seems to be limited to engine noises - though those sounds are different in the various cars to mimic the sound of the model vehicle you're sitting in.

@Russell the lack of Teriyaki Boyz is criminal.

@VelocicoasterFan, I think the whole point of the coaster is it doesn't have theming. If they did add some simple theming it would detract from the experience in my opinion. I myself am incredibly excited for this coaster, I was beyond thrilled with Guardians, my only nitpick was that it wasn't intense enough. This coaster clearly solves that problem.

In what scenario is no theming "the whole point"? Is it supposed to be meta like Incredicoaster/Velocicoaster?

I went to the park yesterday and tried to ride, but unfortunately I was unsuccessful as it never opened. It sounds like they're only opening it for a couple hours on random days with the primary purpose of collecting noise data and it's probably going to be a couple weeks before we see full day technical rehearsals. I probably won't try again until official previews start as the park is a good 90 minutes each way for me, but I'm planning to go the first day I'm not working after it reaches that phase.

Yeah, I think (and maybe this is an unpopular choice) but I always felt like a coaster that's obviously a coaster that pretends to be something else breaks immersion for me, unless it's done well. Ex: Hagrid's, you feel like you're riding an actual motorbike because everything tells you that you are. A car can't go upside down, so if they try to make me think it's a car it takes me out of the immersion. Maybe most people are a different way, but that's my experience.

For anyone whos trying to ride, look up Tolucalake_hoa on Instagram. They're posting the operational times for the attraction during tech rehearsals. Next operating times are Sunday 8/2 and Monday 8/3 from 9a-9p.
