Knott’s Scary Farm’s Magic Castle collaboration this year is meaningless
One of the things that most intrigued me at this year’s Knott’s Scary Farm was the new Occultum magic show and whether working with the Magic Castle in Hollywood would elevate the quality of the show or the magic act.
I've seen a decent number of magic acts at Scary Farm the past couple years, and based on last weekend’s show, I honestly didn’t see much difference. This year’s magic show is supposed to be curated by senior talent at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, but I didn’t see any evidence of that. In any case, almost all of the magicians who I have seen perform at Knotts Scary Farm in previous years had Magic Castle work in their stated resumes.
The magician this past weekend is someone I saw perform at Scary Farm in 2022, and he even used the same shtick in his opening about the date being Walter Knott’s birthday (which is actually Dec. 11th).
The magician for the Occultum show didn’t really do a lot of magic (most of the acts in the last couple years had a lot more actual magic) and mostly depended on audience participation. If it hadn’t been for an audience member who had a very entertaining laugh, the show would have been less fun overall.
