Back to the Future - Closing Day

April 3, 2007, 4:04 PM · As we all know, Back to the Future - the Ride, closed today after 16 years of entertaining, and inflicting pain, on thousands upon thousands of people.

I was there to see it close & all I can say is what a disappointment.

Universal Studios made no effort to remember this once great ride. There was No Marty, no Doc Brown. The only people there to recognise that this ride was closing were a hundred or so fans and some very local staff.

The only Media I saw, or in this case "Heard" make any mention of the closure was Orlando's O-Rock 105.9

There wern't even any notices in the park to let the guests know that today would be the last chance to get bumped "Back to the Future".... Only online did Universal pass on that today was the day.

Maybe it was kept low key because Universal are planning a re-launch of a new version of this classic? Only time will tell.

Well, goodbye Back to the Future, I hated you but I WILL miss you...

April 5, 2007 at 3:36 AM · It's a sad day indeed. Universal have overlooked an opportunity to say farewell to BTTF with the grace it richly deserves. It's provided great entertainment to millions of visitors over the past years and warranted a big send off.........if that's what it is.
I , for one , hope that BTTF will be re-vamped and brought back with a new lease of life.
I also get the impression that more people are in favour of keeping it than there are forletting it go.
Has Universal misread it's audience ? Can this be why their attendance figures are falling while Disney's are increasing year on year ?
Maybe they should go back to the future to find out.
April 5, 2007 at 1:39 PM · Universal really did a bad job of saying farewell to BTTF The Ride. Compared to the big closing ceremony they had for Kongfrontation when it had to leave to be replaced by the Mummy.
In my opinion, Back to the Future would have deserved at least an equal if not even better closing ceremony and farewell than Kongfrontation did. I have more good memories traveling through time with Doc Brown than by traveling on a cable car only to come face to face with the giant ape.
It was just disappointing to see Universal shove off Back to the Future as if it was a junk car that no one cared about.
April 6, 2007 at 6:26 AM · BTTF is a ride that will be talked about for many years to come (for good or bad). I believe Universal will give it its proper due in time, perhaps with a revamped ride considering its closing was rumored, but albeit, incognito. One can only hope that "the greatest ride of all-time"- a ride essential to themepark history will be honored in some way, shape or form by Universal Orlando.
