Orca dies at SeaWorld San Antonio

June 16, 2008, 2:16 PM · Got word that Halyn, a 2½-year-old female orca at SeaWorld San Antonio, died unexpectedly Sunday night.

No cause of death yet, but an investigation continues. It's the second death of a whale at the park in the past year.

June 17, 2008 at 11:53 AM · actually halyn had always been seperated from all the whales because she was the first hand raised killer whale by the trainers because her mom rejected her. She was very young and the only whale that could be with her was Keet because he was her dad. I went to adventure camp there for a week so that is how i know this. Unfortunately this is the second death of a whale at that park in less than a yr. It must be very tough. I can only imagine what the trainers are going through. I grieve with them.

June 18, 2008 at 1:22 PM · Did they ever release a cause of death for the original whale that died? I know it had an infection that they thought was responding to antibiotics, but then it had suddenly died. Probably last November, maybe?
June 18, 2008 at 2:38 PM · thats the last i heard to. All i know is that they say they will release a cause of death, but unless you work there wont ever really know.
June 18, 2008 at 2:41 PM · Actually i just did a little digging and they said he died from pneumonia which can be common in killer whales.
