Vote of the week: Best fireworks show EVAR

July 4, 2008, 9:00 AM · It's the Fourth of July, Independence Day here in the United States, and that means fireworks. (Because there's nothing Americans enjoy better in celebrating our identity than... blowing things up.)

Fireworks are not just for the Fourth at theme parks, of course. Many theme parks are well known for their elaborate displays.

Which brings us to this week's question: Are those displays better than the Fourth of July shows that one can find in just about any community in America. Where was the best fireworks display you've ever seen?

Tell us the details in the comments, please. And, have a happy Fourth!

Last night I took my sons to see our community fireworks and all I could think of was; man, I wish there was a castle in front of these. Nothing can match the magical feel with the music and beauty of Disney parks at night with fireworks.
July 4, 2008 at 10:10 AM · Disney has GREAT Fireworks and I have been to Disneyland on the Fourth of July and . . . well. . . WOW. And that was in 1988. I haven't been back there for the fourth since but I still remember that great show. The only thing I've seen to compare with it was on TV (so you really don't get a feel for the show) from Dallas Texas when they launched everything from the roof tops of the high rises. But Disney; WOW.
July 4, 2008 at 10:27 AM · Last year I was in MK on July 3rd and they did the special ones and they were spectacular. Best I've ever seen.
July 4, 2008 at 10:35 AM · Saw the "4'th of July Concert over the Sky" last night at the Magic Kingdom. It was unbelievable, and by far the best fireworks show I've ever witnessed. True, we were all packed like sardines, but it was all worth it at the end.
July 4, 2008 at 12:24 PM · Wow looks like Disney dominates all other theme parks. Figures
July 4, 2008 at 2:50 PM · Great idea for a poll. There is no doubt that Disney has the best fireworks. However, Six Flags (at least Great America) is pretty impressive as well.
July 4, 2008 at 3:07 PM · I've seen a lot of nice fireworks shows over my 40 years, but Disney takes the cake. Wishes, Illuminations, and Fantasmic. A trifecta of consistent greatness.
July 4, 2008 at 3:53 PM · The current show at Disneyland is sooo good, it's hard not to go for it. But, every May San Francisco radio station KFOG does a Bayside concert followed by fireworks launched from several barges, synched to music of course. It's almost a 20 minute finale. When you figure in the sheer scale of it, which is probably at least equaled in 4th celebrations in places like Boston, it just can't be ignored.
July 4, 2008 at 4:46 PM · I went to Epcot with my family in July 2000. I bet Disney spends as much money with those fireworks than I make in a few years. They had to have the most amazing displays that I have ever seen. Just when you think it's over, they launch thousands more.
July 4, 2008 at 5:09 PM · While Disney's nightly shows are wonderful, the best I've ever seen were on the night of July 4, 1976. We watched the MK's fireworks from the beach at the Polynesian where the identical fireworks were sent up from the island in the middle of the lagoon. It was as if we were watching the fireworks in stereo. During the finale, rockets seemed to shoot up from the water while the sky was practically white with the explosions. It was quite the show.
July 4, 2008 at 5:56 PM · Come on, this is a no-brainer...
July 4, 2008 at 8:28 PM · I've seen a handful of theme park fireworks shows, and my favorite in recent years has been Nights of Fire at Kings Island. The setting over the fountains and the use of fireworks on the Eiffel Tower put it over the top for me. Disney's show is good too.
July 5, 2008 at 9:27 AM · Last done in 2002, Kings Island's "Nights of Fire" launched fireworks from the Eiffel Tower. While the event continues year-after-year, they have since found a new launching pad. But when their trails still led to the Eiffel Tower, it was breath-taking and amazing.
July 5, 2008 at 6:17 PM · We were in Edinburgh for the turn of the millennium (the real one, New Year's Eve 2000). They shot fireworks off seven different hills. And they weren't following American-style safety standards, these fireworks were really close to the crowds. Every time a shell exploded, you didn't just hear it, the force of it shuddered through your body.

It was absolutely incredible. I doubt I'll ever see anything that tops it. We were surrounded by fireworks, all around us, and the power of the explosions was just amazing.

July 7, 2008 at 2:26 PM · Disney, hands down!
July 7, 2008 at 6:31 PM · THUNDER OVER LOUISVILLE!!!

I've never actually witnessed it for myself, but my friends that have and videos I've seen make it easily #1. It annually breaks its own record for largest fireworks display in the world.

July 8, 2008 at 3:39 AM · I always thought that the EPCOT display could never be bettered and still think that , on a regular basis , it scores enough points to keep it's high ranking.

But for a few days each year at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party the Magic Kingdom pulls out all the stops and puts on a show that leaves you breathless.

That's the one for me.

July 8, 2008 at 11:29 AM · Yea, i live in louisville ky, and i go to thunder every year, and there is nuthing that beats thunder over louisville! I can promis you that it blows out any other fireworks display/show. Its unreal, definitly worth seeing!
July 8, 2008 at 11:40 AM · The best fireworks show that I have ever seen was at MVMCP 4 years ago this Dec. The fireworks show was great and you cant beat all the fireworks going off around the castle to x-mas music.

PS, I cant believe any one would think that the fireworks at SFGAM are any good, our local park does a better job, and ive seen some better fireworks coming from peoples back yards than what you see at SFGAM!!!

July 8, 2008 at 12:50 PM · Kings Island is consitant with over 36 years of fireworks every night, Cedar Point has a nice evening show and the nice thing is you can ride rides for 2 more hours on most nights after the laser/fireworks show
