Vote of the week: When do you take vacation?

November 7, 2008, 10:03 AM · We're talking about vacation planning on Theme Park Insider this week, with my series on that topic debuting yesterday. Plus, Disney's three-nights-free plan has people talking, too.

So the vote of the week this week is this: When do you prefer to take your vacation? Are you a summer vacation fan? Do you prefer traveling over the Christmas holidays? Sping Break? Or are you one of those folks who goes for the smaller crowds and better deals by booking your trip during the school year?

I'll have an article on this topic in my vacation planning series, but for now, I'd like to hear from you.

Tell us about your choice, in the comments, please. Thanks!

November 7, 2008 at 10:48 AM · Well for going to WDW, i love going during colder seasons. I've done every month in the summer and i never enjoy myself as much. April was by far my favorite time to go.....not to hot or cold.
November 7, 2008 at 10:57 AM · There is nothing more magical than Disney World during the holidays...as if the place weren't amazing enough, it takes on an even grander status during the December holidays. And whether it be Disney World, Las Vegas, a Cruise, Mexico, or anywhere else, every year I go somewhere for New Years...I absoultely love New Years Eve fireworks and parties! So December is definatley the month for me

November 7, 2008 at 1:22 PM · I enjoy the Fall and Spring time best because of the weather and less crowding. But I voted for May because the sun is making outside weather nice for the wet rides in CA, but not skin burning hot like in the summer. Plus, the crowds are still much lower than in summer when schools get out in June.
November 7, 2008 at 7:10 PM · What's up with the big vote for October? Halloween? Lemme hear from you, October vacation fans.
November 8, 2008 at 2:21 AM · Speaking as a UK tourist who loves to visit Orlando's parks, the first week of October has been the ideal time for us hit The World and friends.

The combination of cooler (but still warm to us!) weather, smaller crowds and Halloween celebrations mean we have a great time.

I'd love to try a visit at Xmas, but the crowds are my first consideration, after the weather, and early Oct is a great compromise.

November 8, 2008 at 9:22 AM · I said May because it seems to have the nicest weather for Disney World. However, if speaking of theme parks, I like to go if there is a special event too such as Holidays around the World, Flower and Garden Festival, Fright Fest, etc
November 8, 2008 at 12:54 PM · I have been going on vacation in October yearly since 2004. The main reason-FALL BREAK. My kids start school in Hawaii in late July and the first quarter finishes the end of September. The first week in October is Fall break. When you have 3 kids in 3 different schools (grade, middle and high) you have 4 choices for vacation: Summer, Christmas, Springbreak and Fall break. This one is a no brainer. The Halloween stuff is an added bonus. The weather is cooler.

When we were in SoCal October 9-14. The hotels were packed and Disneyland from Friday evening to Monday night was crammed with people. While in line for Indiana Jones I found out that Utah and Arizona schools had those 2 weeks off for fall break too. Next year we will try early November :)

November 9, 2008 at 3:35 PM · Our first Orlando trip was in early February after 9/11, so travel was severely down. We continued going at this time for a while and also tried going on New Years Day for about a week.

My new favorite time, however, is in late April/early May. Beautiful weather, empty parks.

November 10, 2008 at 7:49 AM · We seem to go a different time every year with each month offering different bonuses and negatives.

June 2005 - Week in Orlando
Hot weather, afternon showers, decent crowds at Disney and Universal. Perfect for water rides, average waits, and good swimming.

September 2007 - Week in Orlando
Hot weather, big storms here and there, zero crowds at parks, rode everything 3-4 times. Good swimming weather.

April 2008 - Week in Myrtle Beach
Weather was late 60's to 70's. Not quite swimming weather but warm enough to get in. Perfect for boardwalks, outdoor malls, walks along the beach, and sight seeing.

I would say that June is my favorite out of all of them. but the other two worked fine. So probably June, Sept, and April in that order as my faovrites.

November 10, 2008 at 11:07 AM · We've always gone in June, either my son's last day of school or the very next day after his last day of school. We usually take 10 or 11 days and come back home with 5 days to vacation from our vacation. Something about being done with homework and schoolwork for awhile and taking off immediately has always worked out nice for us. Right before the 4th of July holiday rush and before the weather is too miserable.

We've gone in August and November before and the crowds seem to be the same.
