Universal Studios Florida opens Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster

August 15, 2009, 12:34 PM · After a delay of several months, Universal Studios Florida has opened its long-awaited musical roller coaster Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit to the public. It is a soft open, so it could close at any time, so ride if you see it available!

The ride opened to Universal employees last night, and to the public today. Reports from readers onsite welcomed in the comments.

No word yet on an official open date or media day.

August 15, 2009 at 1:21 PM · Just rode 4 times! This is a great ride and has been worth the wait. It is very diffrent then any attraction at Universal (or any Orlando park). The g forces are great, good air time when you hit the block breaks. The music really changes how each ride feels. You can see all the way to down town Orlando from the top, beautiful vistas of the whole park! I'm really really impressed!

August 15, 2009 at 6:34 PM · I left the park at around 3:30pm today and they were still only allowing employees to ride. I had heard that around 6pm they might allow guests to ride but haven't seen any confirmation of that. I hope they did because if that is the case there is a good shot I'll get to ride when I go back tomorrow.

eta: Looks like the posting times here are all Pacific so I'm hoping the first poster was a guest!

August 15, 2009 at 6:37 PM · They did soft open for public at 6 today, the line was very long and they shut it off at times to control crowd. it was a 90 minute wait when I left the park. (worth it though). it is VERY slow loading. the moving platform was not working and they can only run 4 trains (12 people a train)...48 people per full cycle compared to hulks 94...
August 15, 2009 at 7:51 PM · Reviews and pictures from today are popping up all over the web. I been getting updates from other message boards and it looks like they did have a general public soft opening today.

I can't wait to get my chance to give it a try sometime in the near future. So far reviews are mixed with most being positive.

August 15, 2009 at 8:06 PM · I was there today at about 7:30 and they said the line was four hours and they had already cut it off. People were camped out all over the stage courtyard area watching it. It was pretty cool.
August 15, 2009 at 9:20 PM · I was at Universal today and I saw it open, but I chickened out... that ride looks SICK! The wait time was like hours, it's going to be really popular.

My mom was the first ever woman guest on the ride, my sis was the first height check ever and the first ever guest on the ride!!! I waited 8 hours outside the gates to ride this baby, and it was all worth it!! I give it a 9 out of 10!! Come ride it and Rockit!!
August 16, 2009 at 7:47 AM · Supposely soft opening it today at 3pm is what Gareth and I were told last night. I can't make it today, but will Wed try again.
August 16, 2009 at 1:53 PM · was open today and looked incredible but wait time of 2 hours 30 minutes meant that i gave it a miss. will check it out again sometime this week, try and get there early and just queue as soon as the park opens if you dont want a long wait.
August 16, 2009 at 3:00 PM · I went to the park today, Sunday 8/16/09, and they opened the ride around noon. I waited about 40 minutes to ride. From the ground this ride looks slow and tame. I was very surprised at how thrilling the ride was. It was much more intense than I anticipated. The sound system was loud, clear, and starts at the lift hill. This is still a technical soft opening, so there were a couple features that were not up and running. There was no video of my ride and the moving walkway at the boarding station was not functioning. There were no signs posted as to the official opening.
August 16, 2009 at 8:40 PM · Does it have, or will it have, Express Pass?
August 17, 2009 at 6:25 AM · It will, and a single rider line too.
They are there, ready, just won't operate either until the official opening.
August 17, 2009 at 9:18 AM · Guess I'll check it out on my trip next week. I'll include it in my trip report.

Hopefully, the lines aren't completely unbearable.

August 17, 2009 at 10:07 AM · The single rider line was operating Sunday when I was there. It's not terribly efficient right now, although the wait time appeared to be a bit shorter than the regular stand-by (they were posting 120 minutes, spieling 2 to 3 hours, but I only waited an hour).
August 17, 2009 at 7:31 PM · JUst saw on screamscape, the Easter Egg song codes are slowly coming out. No word on just how many, but seems it goes from 001 all the way to into 900's, which I know when Gareth and I was there we were told about 902, Muppet song. But remember if you do the easter eggs, you can't get a video of your ride, due to licensing, so if you don't want the video, go for it and let us know what you find out there. I hope to be there soon again to play around and see what I can find out.
