March 23, 2010 at 7:33 AM · I am a Cedar Point fan through and through. Top Thrill Dragster is a blast to ride, and going 0-120 in 4 seconds and straight up and then back down a 420 foot tower is a rush. It's a great ride, and it would belong in my park.

However....

Once in a while a coaster comes along that is special. Everything about the design and build, the train, and the terrain come together to create an unforgettable ride. The Voyage is one of those rides. It's tall and fast, the elements are exciting, perfectly spaced, and sequenced, and the setting in the woods enhances the speed and out of control feeling.

As fun as Dragster is, there is no contest between the two. Voyage has my vote hands down.

March 23, 2010 at 7:47 AM · Well said Mr Potter...

A carefully crafted coaster that delivers nearly a mile of beautifully nuanced and amazingly paced thrill riding should win over a one-trick pony every time - however thrilling and exciting that trick...

March 23, 2010 at 7:57 AM · Tough call. The voyage is the top woodie out there with a terrific ride. Very smooth, bunny hops, lift hill. You name it. Thrill dragster is a one trick poney. although it is still a thrill to ride.
March 23, 2010 at 8:10 AM · The Voyage is one of the best Woodies out there. And a top coaster overall to boot. Glad to see it getting the love.
March 23, 2010 at 8:15 AM · Dragster is a top notch ride, but doesn't hold a candle to the Voyage!
March 23, 2010 at 8:22 AM · Hard to pick between wood and steel, though these are great rides. I'm going to have to go with Voyage for pure substance.
March 23, 2010 at 8:26 AM · On rides like this, I watch POV videos to figure out which one I would rather ride first. Dragster looks cool, but it also looks like a 1 trick pony. The Voyage, however, looks like a blast, a really special ride. So, while I have yet to ride them, I had to vote for The Voyage. It just looks like so much more fun.
March 23, 2010 at 8:56 AM · I echo the sentiments of Mr. Potter. Well put, sir! I would fully expect the Voyage to be a strong contender for best coaster overall if it pulls in the support it needs from the Holiday World fan base and rational voters everywhere.
March 23, 2010 at 9:24 AM · The Dragster style rides are definitely one trick ponies. Great first ride, but other than that... I can't justify waiting in a long line for a five second ride. Yeah, I'm exaggerating, but it's like Bungee Jumping to me... yeah it's great and all, but it's a one and done kind of thing. It's why I prefer full coasters and sky diving. More bang for your buck.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of wooden coasters with all of the injuries I've had throughout the years (my spine can't take the beating anymore!) I had to vote for Voyage even though I've never been on it because of my dislike of those one-trick pony coasters.

March 23, 2010 at 9:50 AM · This is incredible - the better coaster from a relatively unpopulated park is actually beating the taller, faster, record-breaking coaster from a much more popular park!

I do enjoy Top Thrill Dragster, but it's over with so quickly that I feel a little... ripped off.

March 23, 2010 at 10:25 AM · In Dragster's defense, video does not do the real ride justice. A person won't be able to truly understand how fast and fun the launch is until they get in the train and ride.

That still doesn't mean that Dragster should win. I've ridden them both, and Voyage is the better of the two.

March 23, 2010 at 11:52 AM · The Voyage, great ride in a great park!
March 23, 2010 at 12:21 PM · I don't get the love for Voyage. Smooth? Every time I've ever ridden it it's beaten me to a bloody pulp. Best wooden coaster ever? Bah. It's in my bottom 5.
March 23, 2010 at 1:15 PM · Thank you, Dan!!! I'm so happy to FINALLY see an opinion that coincides with my own. I've ridden Voyage once, and that was more than enough! It gave me a horrible, throbbing headache that took most of the rest of the day to subside. How could anyone call that horrible pummeling smooth? The smoothest wooden coaster I've ever experienced is Dollywood's Thunderhead!

Thank you, Dan!!! I'm so happy to FINALLY read an opinion of Voyage that coincides with my own. I, too, have been perplexed by all the love expressed for that coaster. I've ridden it once, and that was far more than enough! It instantly gave me a horrible, throbbing headache that took most of the rest of the day to subside. How could anyone call that terrible pummeling smooth?!? The smoothest wooden coaster I've ever experienced is Dollywood's Thunderhead! Voyage advancing while Thunderhead was eliminated makes me very sad.

March 23, 2010 at 8:26 PM · I have nothing but love for this wooden work of wonder.

In fact, all three woodies at Holiday World are smooth as silk compared to the Missouri Trifecta of Pain: The Boss, Screamin' Eagle, and Timber Wolf. Once you ride one of these bangers, you'll understand why I call the Voyage smooth!
