Vote of the week: Decorating your Disney World hotel room?

September 7, 2012, 11:33 AM · Are Disney World's hotel rooms not decorated enough for you? Don't worry, Disney can hook you up with even more decor - for a price, of course.

Starting Monday, you can order a "Mickey's Spooktacular Celebration" package for your Walt Disney World Resort hotel room. While you're away at the parks, Disney Floral & Gifts cast members will decorate your room with a light-up banner over the door, cobwebs and foam pumpkins around the room, and plush Mickey and Minnie dolls holding a goody-filled cauldron on the bed.

And it's yours for just $384.95.

Disney also offers room decoration packages for Christmas, birthdays, honeymoons, and other celebrations, from $205 to $485. I've not seen any of these decorated WDW rooms in person, but when my daughter turned 5, we celebrated at Disneyland, and my mother paid for their room to be decorated for the birthday. We had banners, balloons, and a Mickey doll, if I recall correctly - but that was 10 years ago.

Have you ever sprung for a room make-over from Disney Floral & Gifts? Let's make that our vote of the week.

If you've ever had a Disney hotel room make-over, please tell us about it in the comments.

Have a great weekend, and thanks, as always, for being part of the Theme Park Insider community!

September 7, 2012 at 11:49 AM · For that price I could decorate my house Disney!
September 7, 2012 at 12:14 PM · Hah! I don't go to WDW to admire my hotel room normally. I usually leave the decorating task up to the awesome custodial staff that leaves insanely creative towel animals. When I was younger, my brother and I brought our WWE (called WWF back then) toys with us on a WDW vacation. We were staying at what was then called Dixie Landings, now Port Orleans Riverside. The people taking care of our room always had a scene set up with the toys in the ring fighting each other along with the props we brought. It was awesome, and free (aside from the sizable tip my parents left them lol).
September 7, 2012 at 12:19 PM · On a vacation, I usually use a hotel room for two things: showers and sleeping. Occasionally, I've gone back for an hour or two in the middle of the day to rest, but I try to spend as little time in the room as possible. To me, a room at a Motel 6 is not much different from a room at the Venetian, other than the price and location. Decorations wouldn't make one bit of difference, as I likely wouldn't pay attention to them. Plus, given that I'll probably stay in a value resort when I get around to visiting Disney World, I'm not paying a few hundred dollars extra for something I'm not going to appreciate.
September 7, 2012 at 12:22 PM · As long as the motel/hotel has the Triple B package, I'm good.
September 7, 2012 at 1:03 PM · When my parents stayed over the holidays, we decorated the room for them. Beyond that, I don't see a reason to pay an additional cost for a room that already costs so much.
September 7, 2012 at 1:52 PM · This is a trend.

It seems like people are willing to pay for it.

I was wondering if you can keep the decorations.

September 7, 2012 at 3:03 PM · Disney has jumped the shark with these unreasonably expensive add-ons. No, really, a special 'Bruce the Jumping Shark' package will be available for rooms at the Finding Nemo wing of the Art of Animation Resort. Package includes a life-size inflatable Bruce the shark, positioned to 'jump' out at you when you open your room door! Fun and memories for all!! Only $378.98 plus applicable taxes and service charge. Not suggested for any guest who is pregnant, elderly, or with heart issues.
September 7, 2012 at 3:55 PM · "After a hard day with the kids at the parks, relax with the 'Trader Sam's' package - with tiki decor throughout your room and a full bar with tropical cocktails."

C'mon, now, how much would you pay for that? :^)

September 7, 2012 at 3:45 PM · First of all the price they ask for this "decoreting" is to high but that is not the reason why I wouldn't do it. Mine main complain is that it's lazy and uninspired. If someone would do this for me it sends out a messige that goes like this: Hi, I care so much about you that I lost sence in the value of money and I'm not creative and I don't know you enough to surprise you myself.
I could see myself all go out to surprise someone I care for but I would do it myself so that person knows it comes from the hart, not from my wallet.
September 7, 2012 at 5:10 PM · For routine vacations I would never pay for the additional service. You can theme your stay just by the hotel you stay in. However I was there on a anniversary and I wanted some special items in the room. I see that as standard concierge service available at most hotels.
September 8, 2012 at 4:44 AM · I personally would not shell out $$$ for this service, (based on my current income and common sense that goes along with that) however, had I a larger pile of disposable income to pull from I might very well let them decorate my room.

I think the service is great and will not bash it for being too expensive just because I make the conscious decision not to buy it.

I think value is in the eye of the beholder. There are many additional activities and add on's one can insert into their Disney vacation. Not all will appeal to everyone.

That's the great thing about being able to make adult choices!

September 8, 2012 at 2:03 PM · I have never done this, but I knew Disney does do this. There are many less expensive options than the Spooktacular version. I think I would splurge a bit, but maybe not that far!

They also do nice baskets with food, games, toys, and, yes guys, even beer!

September 8, 2012 at 2:23 PM · Two years ago, my husband and I celebrated our anniversary at WDW. I didn't know it but he had a surprise for me. He had our room decorated with rose petals (in a heart on the bed), monogrammed towels, a spa package and long stemmed red roses. They came when we were out one day. It was amazing. Then, he had flowers sent to our table at The California Grill ON our anniversary. He said it was expensive (about $500) but was worth it because it was done so well and unexpectedly that the WOW factor is built into the price. I know I would LOVE to have the Halloween thing done BEFORE we got to the resort to welcome us!
September 9, 2012 at 8:49 AM · When I read the additional fee part I was thinking maybe $30 or maybe even $40. I mean common foam pumpkins and little Mickey and Minnie toys with a cauldron full of candy. I think even for that $40 would be to much. But over $300!! really!? For that I better walk in to my room and see the ghosts from the Haunted Mansion dance in my room. That price is to much, even for Disney...
September 10, 2012 at 8:53 AM · We decorate our rooms when we visit disney during Halloween. I dont remember every spending $385. The dollar store is your friend for decorations.
September 10, 2012 at 8:56 AM · Wow!!!! a lot of cheapos' on this site.
September 10, 2012 at 10:05 AM · This is actually big business. There are a number of businesses out there that provide these types of decorations and services of Disney hotel guests, and it's a very popular topic on Disney fan boards. I'm not at all surprised that Disney would try to get a cut of the action, and there's no doubt that many of the fanatic Disney guests would be more than happy to turn some more money over to the Mouse.
September 10, 2012 at 3:09 PM · It's not my kind of thing as I only use hotel rooms for showering and sleeping. I'll keep this G rated!

But more power to anyone that loves this kind of thing for extended stays at a resort room!
