Beyond CaliFlorida: Let's get to the Point

June 11, 2014, 10:49 AM · Cedar Point – The Point had a really bad weekend, but we have heard that rumors about Top Thrill Dragster being closed because of problem that was going to take some time to repair, proved to be false. The Dragster opened late on Monday. And here's more good news: Theme Park Insider is giving away a four-pack of tickets to Cedar Point. You'll be able to enter to win the tickets on the TPI front page this Friday. You must be a registered member of the site to be eligible to win, so register now if you haven't already.

Wildwater Kingdom (formerly Geauga Lake and SeaWorld Ohio) – We’re hearing rumors that the final side of Geauga Lake might be closing in the near future if attendance figures don’t make a huge turnaround. Take this one as a rumor for the time being (meaning not fact), but at the same time, it really wouldn’t hurt to go down to the park and show your support with your feet and wallet. This also might be one of those cases where the top brass lofts an idea up to see if anyone is going be upset about it.

Six Flags New Orleans/Jazzland – Since nothing else is going on with this site, Jurassic World (aka Jurassic Park 4) is filming at the park. Apparently their idea is to release a bunch of real dinosaurs into an abandoned amusement park and see what they do. If they are as highly evolved as they are portrayed in the films, I expect the dinosaurs to quickly learn to start charging admission to the park, to be quickly followed by them building a large expansion to the park, beautifully themed to a young Tyrannosaurus wizard and his band of misfit friends as the through the course of many books and movies try to keep an evil Giganotosaurus from returning from the dead and taking over the world.

Luna Park (Coney Island) – I’ve heard that the Thunderbolt is now open. But I can’t seem to confirm that one way or another. I am getting the feeling that N’Yawkas don’t really wait for the facts, but make a statement and then stand impatiently by as the world bends to their will. I do know that they are testing, but testing usually takes a couple of weeks along with visits from the ride inspectors. So I would guess soon, just not quite yet.

Six Flags Great America – I know of a great way to make people want to ride a brand new innovative roller coaster. I could post of video of it online with a really annoying rattling sound that makes it seem like the thing is falling apart.

Happy Father’s Day – To all of those fathers who haven’t run out on your kids, here are a couple of videos for you. Now hurry up and finish this article so you can go and do something with your kids.

Since our fathers always told us to do something useful with our time, you could make the argument that getting really good at the following could be extremely useful.

Star Wars Weekends – Apparently the Conversation with Mark Hamill was an extremely good show and he talked about different things on different days. Here is the first show and the day 3 show. Something to look for is when Mark has a conversation between Luke and the Joker.

Star Wars – From Star Wars to Jedi - the continuing adventures…

June 11, 2014 at 11:03 AM · If the Thunderbolt is actually open, that would be a good reason to use the Luna Park credits I have left over from a couple of years ago. Sustained an injury on the Cyclone which took a month to heal and required medical attention on the spot; as compensation I was given some Luna Park credits. Didn't use them at the time, as I was hardly in a riding mood after the incident, particularly as regards the Cyclone. I'm not that crazy!
June 11, 2014 at 1:44 PM · Redundant, Jurassic Park is based on a park with dinosaurs as attractions. So Jurassic World is an amusement park with dinosaur guests? Same result = mayhem. At least the amusement park is already trashed. No more trashing needed, yet we expect more somehow.
June 11, 2014 at 3:39 PM · The rumors about Wildwater Kingdom closing ties in with the rumor I heard about Cedar Point wanting to expand Soak City with some of the attractions from Wild Water Kingdom. It will be interesting to see if any of these rumors come true.
June 11, 2014 at 8:54 PM · Just wanted to say Mark Hamill's Joker is at around the 31 min 20 second point of the first video.

It's kind of an interesting video, but if like me, you wanted to hear him voice the Joker, skip forward to 31:20.
