The Marvel Characters are Moving at Disneyland

March 7, 2016, 3:31 PM · You've got less than a month to see the Super Hero HQ at Disneyland, before the resort send its Marvel characters across the esplanade to California Adventure.

Disney announced today that April 2 will be the final day for the Super Hero HQ, which shares the old Innoventions building in Tomorrowland with the Star Wars Launch Bay. Starting April 3, Spider-Man will begin appearing over in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure, where he will be joined by Captain America, who is returning to the resort after a break of several months.

The closure of the Super Hero HQ means that Thor is leaving the resort, at least for the time being. Disneyland seems to be settling into a rotation system for its Marvel character meet and greets, with only a couple characters available in the parks at any given point in time.

If you are wondering, the closure of the Super Hero HQ will not affect the Star Wars Launch Bay, which will remain open in Tomorrowland.

I wonder what will happen on the second floor of Innoventions. What a waste of space. They didn't think of redoing the whole thing while they had a chance?

March 7, 2016 at 6:12 PM · Unless Star Wars is expanding to take over the entire building (which I could see), moving the Marvel characters out is an interesting move at this point. Even though DCA is going to be the permanent home of the franchise in California, I always figured they'd remain in Tomorrowland until Marvel Land is ready to open. Rotating the characters does make a lot of sense, however, as there are just too many to have everyone available at all times. I'm guessing the roster will likely be based on upcoming/recent MCU films, so Captain America makes more sense than Thor now but the two will probably swap again in 2017.

March 7, 2016 at 9:32 PM · This seems to be first indication that they are committed to moving forward with the long-rumored Marvel Land expansion at DCA.
March 7, 2016 at 10:18 PM · I'm more of the mind that the Marvel characters were getting lost in the same building as Star Wars, and that Disney wanted to give them some more visibility. DCA's Hollywood land seems a better "fit" for them than Tomorrowland, too.

But, yeah, we need a real Marvel land at DCA. Someday.

March 8, 2016 at 4:42 AM · Having Spider-Man as a meet-n-greet character might not be such a bad idea. Who knows? If we're lucky, maybe he'll put on a little dance for us...
