News update: Chef Art's Homecoming, Early Morning Magic at DHS

July 12, 2016, 8:39 PM · Another week, and another grand opening at Disney Springs. This time, it's Chef Art's Homecoming — serving Florida-inspired cuisine created by celebrity chef (and former WDW College Program cast member) Art Smith.

Also at the Walt Disney World Resort, the Disney Early Morning Magic program has expanded over to Disney's Hollywood Studios. For $69 per adult ($59 per child), you get one hour of early admission to ride Star Tours The Adventures Continue and Toy Story Midway Mania, plus breakfast at the ABC Commissary and meet and greets with Woody, Buzz, Mickey, Minnie, and Olaf. You can reserve the package online, and theme park admission is required in addition to the event cost. The event does not run on mornings when Extra Magic Hours are offered to Disney hotel guests.

Looking for more extra at DHS? The park now is offering a dessert party for the new Star Wars A Galactic Spectacular fireworks/projection show. This one is also $69 for adults but only $39 for the kids and includes themed cupcakes and cookies as well as cheeses, flatbreads and dip. But the big draws are the alcohol for the grown-ups as well as the reserved seating for the show. Again, you can book online.

Finally, Tokyo Disneyland has announced that it will close its version of Animation Academy at the end of September. Unlike other installations at Disney theme parks, Tokyo's "Disney Drawing Class" was an upcharge and not a free attraction. Located in The Disney Gallery in World Bazaar (i.e. Main Street), both it and the gallery will be closing to make way for a Bibbidi-Bobbidi Boutique.
