Disneyland gets ready to host its 'Tale of the Lion King'

May 7, 2019, 10:38 PM · The hype train has left the station and is chugging toward the opening of Disney's next film version of The Lion King on July 19. Disney is hosting Lion King-themed promotions across its theme parks, with a new musical based on the franchise on the way to Disney California Adventure next month.

"Tale of the Lion King" opens June 7 on the park's Palisades Stage, and Disney today shared a behind-the-scenes video about the production.

The new show will feature a cast of 18 singers, actors, drummers, and dancers performing new arrangements of songs from the movies while retelling their story in a fresh style. For Disney fans with long memories, the Disneyland Resort hosted Disney's first Lion King theme park production, The Lion King Celebration parade that ran from 1994 through 1997 in Disneyland park. Four of the floats from that parade were then sent to Walt Disney World in Florida to provide the core show units for the Festival of the Lion King show at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

This looks like a great addition to DCA. The small tweaks in the entertainment lineup like this are important to make return visits new and interesting. I always liked the Conductor Goofy show with the fountains, but this is definitely a step up in terms of overall entertainment value. Hopefully this runs through the summer so I can check it out on my visit in late July/early August.

Please add as much as you can to DCA to ease the crowds going to SWGE.
