Celebrate 50 years of Sesame Street this weekend

November 5, 2019, 5:35 PM · The acclaimed children's television show Sesame Street is turning 50 this weekend, and its American theme park partner is celebrating with a two-day party at SeaWorld Orlando.

Sesame Street debuted November 10, 1969 on American public television stations. Unlike commercially-driven children's shows of the past, Sesame Street based much of its production on child-development research in an effort to help improve the education of preschool viewers. With a cast including Jim Henson's Muppets, Sesame Street soon became one of the most popular and beloved entertainment franchises in the United States and abroad.

Sesame Street at SeaWorld Orlando

This weekend, SeaWorld will host special weekend Birthday Party Celebration in the new Sesame Street land at its Orlando park. Free mini cupcakes will be available, while supplies last, at Sesame Sips, and SeaWorld will be handing out free party hats to visitors, too.

The Sesame Street Party Parade will feature an all-new float to celebrate the anniversary on Saturday and Sunday. The parade runs through Sesame Street at 2pm and 4:30pm each day.

The park encourages fans to dress for the event with outfits inspired by their favorite Sesame Street characters. (So... what's the word for "Disneybounding" when it's not Disney?) Finally, SeaWorld will be offering 50% off all Sesame Street 50th anniversary merchandise over the weekend.
