Disneyland Backs off Opening Date for Avengers Campus

April 10, 2020, 7:36 PM · The Disneyland Resort has backed off its announced opening date for its Marvel-themed Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.

Disney had announced that the new land - and its signature WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure interactive dark ride - would open on July 18. But just a couple of days after making that announcement, Disneyland and Walt Disney World closed their parks as part of the international response to the pandemic. Shortly after that, Disney also shut down construction at its US theme parks, all but assuring that Avengers Campus would not be open by its announced opening date, even if the parks reopened by then.

So the change on the Disneyland website from "opening July 18" to "coming soon" should not surprise anyone at this point. It simply affirms what many leaders have been saying for some time now, that we simply do not when it will be safe and appropriate for businesses such as theme parks to reopen.

In reflection of that, all of Disney's theme parks around the world are closed until further notice.

When it does open, wonder if we can use that date to determine the opening dates of other upcoming rides.

Anybody that thinks our Central Florida parks are opening before fall is fooling themselves. I wouldn’t even purchase a ticket to Mickey’s Christmas Party yet. We’re above 1000 new cases per day in Florida. If Disney opens and people immediately come down with the virus it will be lawsuit season as they will have created an attractive nuisance during the pandemic.

This isn’t going away soon and right now we only have one way to battle it and that’s distancing. I wish I was wrong, but I don’t think so.
