New Disney Theme Park Series to Debut on Disney+

August 12, 2020, 4:16 PM · Following the successful run of "The Imagineering Story," the Disney+ streaming service is about to launch a new series about the Disney theme parks.

This time, it's the animals of Walt Disney World that will get the starring roles. National Geographic's "Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom" will debut September 25 on Disney+. The eight-part series, narrated by Frozen's Josh Gad, will show off some of the more 5,000 animals from more than 300 species that live at the Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and The Seas with Nemo & Friends attraction at Epcot.

Filmmakers used underwater camera systems, custom-built GoPro mounts, and 18-foot cranes to capture images of Disney's animals, as well as the animal-care team that watches after them.

Stay tuned for more information about the show as we approach its premiere date.

Hopefully the Disney Brass realize what a built-in market they have already with Theme Park-related content. I’d love to see a series of Disney Theme Park “What Ifs?” about rides or concepts that never reached fruition, or evolved into something else entirely.

Someone was suggesting an expansion of the Imagineering series (which I loved) focusing on specific rides and their history which would be fun. As noted, a look at how Western River Expedition created Big Thunder Mountain would be terrific as well as the long-lost rides and such.

Can't wait! The Imagineering Story is one of the best documentaries I have seen on any subject. Totally addicted to it. Watched the entire series 3 times in 2 weeks.

Mike W - I like your reasoning. I'll second that.

I would love to see a series devoted entirely on WDW - from original conception to actual design to construction and its evolution including the parks, resorts - planned, opened and cancelled - the evolution of Lake Buena Vista Marketplace to Disney Springs and projects and ideas which never happened. I would even sell Mrs Plum to help pay for it.

The only issue I can think of is how much of the “magic” is Disney willing to sand off for a Disney+ series. Specifically, how far behind the scenes would they realistically go? I know that for the “Keys to the Kingdom” tour (someone correct me if that’s the wrong name; whatever tour it is that goes to all 4 WDW Theme Parks) they require a minimum age of either 15 or 16(?) to participate for this very reason.

I just last night discovered the wonderful "A Pre Opening Report from Disneyland". I'm not sure if it's a new addition to Disney+ or if I just missed it previously. But it has some great footage, and is a great get for fans of theme parks.
