Get Wired with Universal Orlando's New Robot Dog

September 18, 2020, 2:56 PM · There's a new member of the Toothsome character family at Universal Orlando's CityWalk. So if you love dogs, robots, coffee, and milkshakes, Universal Orlando just made your day.

Penelope Toothsome has crafted a new robot companion to go along with her longtime accomplice, Jacques. Say hello to the Toothsome family "dog," Latte.

According to Universal's new backstory, Penelope and Jacques built Latte with "leftover cogs, wheels and kitchen utensils," to create a "woman's best friend" that keeps with the steampunk esthetic at CityWalk's Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen. IRL though, Latte is a dynamic Spot robot, using tech developed by Boston Dynamics.

Latte will appear with Penelope and Jacques intermittently between 4 and 6pm daily through the end of the month for "training sessions."

To welcome Latte to the family, the restaurant now is offering a special "Latte's Latte" milkshake, with coffee ice cream and espresso topped with whipped cream, a dark chocolate biscotti "Latte bone," and chocolate-covered espresso beans.

The fact Boston Dynamics is using this tech in this kinda of a space feels remarkable to me. Also I'm down for an espresso milkshake!

It seems Boston Dynamics is working hard to promote this robot. I've seen it on youtube where Adam Savage got one to do fun stuff with and now at Universal. It's a great extra as these robots are quite expensive and I would love to see one in real life. I also would love to eat that milkshake.
