Magic Mountain starts construction on new roller coaster
Six Flags Magic Mountain has started its next step in construction of its next roller coaster.
The California park has been clearing the old Golden Bear Theater and preparing the site for months. Now, equipment has moved in for the start of vertical construction. Six Flags Magic Mountain showed off the work in a short video on its social media today.
From a construction permit filed last year, we know that Six Flags is planning the first installation of the new Vekoma Thrill Glider coaster. The park has not announced that information officially, nor has it said much about the project. But the company's press release for its new membership sales campaign said that an announcement about the project would be coming soon.
The slow pace of development for the ride fueled speculation that perhaps Six Flags was stepping away from the project. After all, given the long delay in Knott's Berry Farm getting Montezooma running and the months of wondering about Universal's Hollywood Drift, local fans have developed a heightened sense of skepticism about new local roller coaster projects.
But Montezooma is open now, Fast & Furious is in a soft open with a formal debut on the way, and Magic Mountain is getting ready to raise steel on its new coaster. So maybe the news is getting better for Southern California's coaster fans. (Please?)
