Tokyo Disney reveals name for new Space Mountain
The new version of Space Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland will be called Space Mountain Earthrise, the Oriental Land Co. announced today.
The all-new version of Disney's iconic indoor roller coaster will open next year and feature a different design from any previous installation of Space Mountain. The new ride will feature on-board audio as well as lighting and theatrical effects.
"The 'Earthrise' in Space Mountain Earthrise refers to the sight of Earth from space as it rises from beyond the Moon's beauty and preciousness of Earth as an unparalleled existence within the universe and is a concept unique to Japan among Space Mountain attractions at Disney theme parks worldwide," the park said in its press release. "Through an exciting and captivating cosmic voyage, guests will explore the mysteries of the vast universe, and as they do, rediscover the beauty of our planet and be instilled with hope for tomorrow."
The new Space Mountain has been under construction behind the former Space Mountain site, as Tokyo Disneyland looks to expand and refresh its Tomorrowland.
As part of the changes, the former Buzz Lightyear interactive dark ride will reopen next spring as Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, themed to Wreck-It-Ralph. The first ride themed to that franchise will invite riders to help Ralph and Vanellope to chase down and eliminate King Candy's Sugar Bugs before they destroy the Sugar Rush racing game.
A new Tomorrowland Plaza will connect the land's attractions in a new central plaza that will feature special lighting and sound effects at night.

I think you could make Ralph work.
The biggest problem with Tomorrowland is of course tomorrow always comes. But as much as it pains me to say this (and I can already hear a few groans), the 80s either just has, or is about to pass that point where it’s no longer cringe, but cool retro.
I’m talking Cyberpunk. And in Cyberpunk, Japan looks large.
That gets you to Flynn’s arcade fitting in perfectly, and once we’ve got the arcade, Ralph follows.

This sounds like it fits the retro-future vibe that every Tomorrowland has always tried to capture sprinkled with a little bit of hope that formed the foundation of EPCOT's ethos.
I could see Sugar Rush being a massive upgrade over Buzz, but the Wreck it Ralph IP feels like a bit of a mismatch in Tomorrowland.
