Dubai Parks sets reopening for October
Dubai's theme parks are reopening next month, for the first time since the start of the current Gulf war.
The Dubai Parks theme parks closed, along with many other attractions in the region, when Iran began attacking Gulf states in retaliation for U.S. and Israeli attacks in February. The Dubai Parks - Motiongate Dubai, Real Madrid World, and Legoland Dubai - remained closed even as other attractions in the region reopened.
Unlike the IMG Worlds of Adventure park elsewhere in Dubai or the Yas Island theme parks in Abu Dhabi, the Dubai Parks are mostly outdoors. That posed an increased security threat, as the initial concern in the region after the start of the war was falling debris from drone intercepts. But as that threat faded, the summer heat arrived, and the Dubai Parks' closure became a seasonal one.
The most popular themed attraction in Dubai is the outdoor Global Village, which closes each year from mid-Spring to mid-Autumn. So seasonal outdoor attraction closures are accepted in the market and not an obstacle to attendance success.
We will have to wait to see, of course, how Dubai Parks' seven-month closure affects its attendance. In 2024, Dubai Parks rethemed and reopened the former Bollywood Parks Dubai to Real Madrid World, after the Spanish football club, in an attempt to boost appeal and attendance. And I suppose that we will learn sometime by next spring if summer season closures are to become annual practice for Dubai Parks.
Dubai Parks and Resorts reopens on October 7.
