Can Six Flags restore Magic in its Mountain?
In this week's Theme Park Insider Podcast, Jake and I talk about Six Flags Magic Mountain's decision to retire X2 and what the company can do next to help improve the former Thrill Capital of the World.
And, for a bonus, Jake verbs the phrase “Ship of Theseus.”

I will say the act of attending Magic Mountain is much better than it was 10 or 15 years ago. It still has a long way to go, but at the very least they have (mostly) straightened out their operations.

I 100% agree with what Robert wrote in the OC Register article and said in this podcast. Rides should be safe and comfortable, Six Flags really messed up here, and I'll leave my X2 opinions at that.
The "Xtreme park" era killed Magic Mountain and it never recovered. Building Superman, X, and DejaVu all in the same park...all record breaking prototypes...in the span of a few years, was absolutely bonkers.
SFMM has always been my least favorite major corporate park. I've always found it to be an ugly, depressing, poorly operated place, and dislike it so much that the last time I went was in 2012 and don't have any desire to go back. Its such a shame because seeing it in movies and videos from the 70s-90s it does look nice, but at this point the park has a longer history of being bad than being good. The new coaster they are building now does look nice and I hope its the start of a turnaround, but considering SF's financial situation, and having seen their situation repeat over and over and over again, I have no confidence in this company.
