What are the best times of year to visit Cedar Point? Does anyone know if Dragster is running regularly? When I went two years ago it was running regularly and I have heard the horror stories about Kingda Ka...

Dragster is running like a champ. The best times to go (ala the least crowded) are weekdays in June, and weekdays in late August. The absolute best time to go if you don't want to wait in line is the week before labor day.

If you don't mind waiting a couple of hours a piece for the big rides (and there are a lot), parking in the back of the lot, waiting in line for food and huge crowds in general, then by all means go during the weekend and during July. The park is open an hour later this time of year, and you will need every minute of it to finish your day. My advice. Cedar Point is a much better place for a first time visitor/tourist to visit when not crowded.

Don't worry about the Kingda Ka stories. Six Flags is not Cedar Point.

You can always stay at one of CP's resorts - some of them aren't terribly expensive (and if you have time to hunt down one of their mail brochures, there's coupons in there like $30 off a night at Hotel Breakers). Resort guests get in an hour earlier for select rides (though odds are the selected rides won't be the ones you'll want to run and catch). At the very least, it'll give you an advantage over everyone else getting in line for Dragster or MF...

I also recommend doing a Starlight the night before. Again, there's coupons in the brochure for buy-one-get-one free.

I agree with Derek. I went to CP last year the Thursday before Labour Day and crowds were very reasonable. The longest waits that I encountered were for Top Thrill Dragster and Millenium Force(2hrs and 1hr respectively). I waited for the front seat of Dragster, so I could have gotten on even sooner if I had taken any seat. Surprisingly though, it was Millenium Force that was down for most of the day, probably just routine maintenance or something. I noticed Millenium Force open at about 6PM, but Top Thrill Dragster was going strong the whole day long. Other popular coasters like Raptor and Magnum XL-200 had fairly long but quick moving lines. I arrived at opening and rode most of the coasters except for the junior coasters, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Wildcat, and Disaster transport. I also rode other rides and coasters more than once. I left at 7PM, a full hour before closing, to beat the rush back to Cleveland.
