I've heard for some time that Disney is talking about changing the film for Soarin'. Has anyone heard any news about this recently? Just curious...

Not any recent rumors or anything to hint it is past the rumor stage. If it were to happen, I only see it changing at EPCOT and becoming sort of a Soarin' Over the World instead of just a California Copy. But don't expect the one in DCA to change.

I've heard the rumor that it is being changed to soarin' over the world. I also heard a rumor that it was being changed to soarin' over america. I feel like since it's in the land pavilion it should focus more on the natural world if it is being updated.

BUT I do believe these are just rumors.

Personally, I would love to see them move the entry to World Showcase and change it to "Soarin the World". You can fly over the Great Wall, the Eiffel Tower, Venice, and others!

I hope that Disney changes Soarin later this year for EPCOT's anniversary. After all the film has been shown since 2005.

I'd be happy if they'd just repair the screen- fix those darks spots and bumps that ruin the illusion...

I have to agree, that screen is very dingy looking. Definately ruins the illusion. I'd love for Soarin to go 3D and definately focus on exploring different types of landscapes, as it is in the land (Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Appalacian Mountains, Yellowstone, Hawaii Volcanoes, etc). Is it really appropriate to have a ride with man made structures be in the same pavilion as a show that contradicts it?

I'm sure the 'illusion' only happens when you ride in the front two rows - i.e the top two rows. I've only been on it twice over the years and both times I ended up on the back / bottom row and with people's legs dangling and the bottom of the screen in clear view, it spoiled what I imagine can be a very good effect.

On a slightly different note, if they do change the film, I think they would be wise to use footage that is more fluid...myself and the 3 others in my party were disappointed with the sudden jolting between scenes. It was a bit like watching a publicity video for some vacation company...

Lauren, I agree- it's top row or nothing! I'm glad I learned that asking the CM if you can have first row is a common thing- we've asked the last several times we've ridden, and they always said yes (it only doesn't work if you're unlucky enough to be filling the last two rows of the last section to load- then there's no place to wait, so you can't so it). Also agree about the cuts between scenes- it seems so dated now...
