Challenge 2: Animal Kingdom Beastly Kingdom

The next round of Apprentice

Beastly Kingdom is the long rumored land to appear at Animal Kingdom that will showcase mythical creatures. It has been one thing left out of Animal Kingdom that has left many people unhappy. A few years ago, a coaster by the name of Expedition Everest was added to showcase the Yeti. However, the attraction was placed within the Asia section of the park. In this week’s challenge, it will be your job to design another attraction based on a mythical creature for the park. There are a number of mythical animals you can choose from that are contained within much different ethnic folklore. Your attraction can be a show, ride, or experience. You must include the name of the attraction, the type of attraction it is, attraction specs, and details. All of these attractions will be placed in the Beastly Kingdom land that is to come, which will be placed over Camp Minnie Mickey. Next week, we venture to Paris, France for our first international challenge this season!

Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to our first apprentice, David L.

Ensorcell Castle

The outward appearance of the ride is a dark gothic looking castle with many towers. While not necessarily evil looking, there is a certain amount of menace to it, almost like a good castle that has decided to hang out with all of his friends from the wrong side of town and only dies his hair black while wearing black eye makeup and a black trench coat because his friends think it is cool, but he is not so certain. As an external visual “weenie” every hour one of the towers falls off the back of the castle with a crash and a large plume of smoke. This is done by a series of four specially built castle towers all on a hydraulic conveyor belt. When one of the towers reaches the end of the belt, it is hydraulically pushed over and caught once it is out of visitor’s view. The crash is done with speakers and the smoke is done with fog machines.

Ensorcell Castle - Part 2

After the tower drops, it is maneuvered back into position and raised behind the castle back into its upright position and now at the end of the line. The conveyor moves so slow that it is imperceptible to the eye. A loud cracking and splintering sound will warn visitors that the tower is about to break off (again). With four towers on the conveyor, there are always three visible towers, even though the one on the end keeps falling off, and none of the visitors can see the tower put back up. Closely hugging the castle is a layer of fog and relatively dense thorny/viney vegetation.

Photobucket

The queue line starts out themed to fantasy creatures like sprites, unicorns, cherubs, etc., as you move through the line, it appears that a great and dark evil has taken over. Slowly the queue line gets dark and more ominous. The queue tells the story of a castle that used to be a happy and wonderful place with a beautiful young queen whom everyone loved. The queen fell in love with a man, Arjuna, and was going to marry him, but was sent on a task of great peril to prove he was worthy of the queen’s hand in marriage and to become the king of the land. The queen’s advisor set upon the young man a task of such great peril, that the queen was afraid that he would never return from the task. Arjuna did not back down from the task and bravely rode off taking with him an exquisite sword and a bow given as a gifts from the queen to aid him on his quest. Many months passed and Arjuna had not returned. As the time spread out, the queen sunk into a depression and slowly withdrew from view.

Photobucket

In the void left behind by the queen, a great darkness ran across the kingdom and evil beasts moved in to capitalize on the sorrow of the kingdom, killing, torturing, and enslaving the once happy people of the kingdom. The once happy fantasy creatures who did not flee were infected by the darkness and have devolved into darker forms of their former selves. The kingdom is now falling apart, physically manifested in the castle itself falling apart, and is great need of a rescuer. As the queue line ends, a haggard horse drags itself up to the castle with a seemingly unconscious person on its back.

As the queue line nears the loading platform, the ride splits into two separate lines, the Unicorn line and the Centaur line.

The ride vehicles are standard steel tracked coaster cars in a 4 across staggered seating arrangement (much like Diamondback at Kings Island and Behemoth at Canada’s Wonderland) and running four cars per train.

Photobucket

There are two different loading stations that load the two different sides at the same time. They are dispatched independently, but there is a pairing/waiting track just past the dispatch where the coaster train for Unicorn and Centaur sides can wait for each other and start the ride together.

After release by the pairing track, the Unicorn Coaster and the Centaur Coaster mount the lift hill side by side, and the story continues while the trains ride up the enclosed lift hill.

Photobucket

The figure on the horse tiredly moves and pulls out the exquisite sword out of it sheath and holds it up where it glows oddly in the surrounding darkness, we now know that this is Arjuna returned from his quest. The glow of the sword strangely rejuvenates both Arjuna and his horse. Into the darkness he yells, “I have traveled thousands of miles and many years in pursuit of you, before I discovered that the place I should be is the one I left behind. I have driven out your minions everywhere I have travelled and purified the land against you. There is nowhere else for you to run to.”

A deep and strangely familiar woman’s voice laughs menacingly as the coaster cars crest the top of the lift hill and slowly glides away from the lift hill before coming to a stop. “You fool, the only purpose for sending you away from the castle was to take over after you left. Now you are too weak and I much too powerful for you to stop me.” The words come from everywhere and are loud enough to shake the vehicle (with a little help from some advanced motion control electronics). Arjuna’s voice rings out from the darkness, but fades away into the distance as he says, “Together with my friends (referring to the people on the coaster), we will stop you and rid this castle of your evil.” The booming female voice returns to say, “But separately, you have no chance. Where are your friends now?” The lights brighten for a moment to reveal that what you thought was the other coaster car is actually a mirror reflecting your own image back at you (that slid into place in the darkness). At this point, the two coasters are separated and take different paths through the next section.

Ensorcell Castle - Part 3

Photobucket

Unicorn Path
After a two second pause, the Unicorn coaster car drops straight down (drop tower style) about 50ft directly onto a magnetic launch section that throws the train forward to around 40mph in a very startling one-two punch. As you go speeding past, you hear Arjuna shout, "You take care of her little flunky. I will try to stop her myself." The coaster winds through a maze of passages, knocking out little shadow demons (projections in fog directly over the tracks) before rounding a corner and into a large room where we find that the "Little Flunky" is not a little guy, but a great big guy. Shown as a shadow projected onto a dropping cloud bank from overhead, is none other than Chernabog.

Photobucket

After several flybys and after dodging several balls of flame, the coaster car finally flies through the middle of Chernabog fog, dispersing him in a scream of agony. The Unicorn coaster car mounts a lift hill where it is finally joined back up with the Centaur coaster.

Ensorcell Castle - Part 4

Photobucket
Centaur Path
After a two second pause, the Centaur coaster lurches sideways and falls in an arc away from the mirror at the end of a long arm. The coaster is kept upright using technology similar to the Ferris wheel lift on Round About/Maximum RPM! at Hard Rock Park/Freestyle Music Park. Once the arcing drop stops, the Centaur coaster is directly over a magnetic launch that fires the train forward to around 40mph. As you go speeding past, you hear Arjuna shout, “You try to hold her off. I will take care of her flunkies.” The coaster winds through a maze of passages, getting close to but never quite catching who we now know is Maleficent.

Photobucket

After dodging and repelling several different magic attacks, Maleficent disappears, laughing ominously, to her inner sanctum. The Centaur coaster leaves the arena area and mounts a lift hill where it is finally joined back up with the Unicorn coaster.

Ensorcell Castle - Part 5

Together again, the trains ride up the lift hill together where they are joined by Arjuna. “We have cornered them into the castle dungeon. Hang on just a little longer and we can vanquish them, but we have to work together.” The coasters mount the top of the lift hill and start rolling downhill for the final battle.

As the trains start picking up speed, the low female voice shouts out, “Your bones will rot in this dungeon forever.” After which she transforms into her dragon form (a large animatronic) and starts blowing fire all over the room trying to catch one of the coaster cars. At the same time, Chernabog is disappearing and reappearing all over the room throwing fireballs at the trains. The trains dance and weave through a tangled series of tracks, but no matter what the trains and Arjuna do, they cannot finish off Chernabog and Maleficent.

Photobucket

Suddenly, Maleficent gets a lucky shot through and manages to disable both trains, in the eerie silence right before Maleficent finishes off the people in the coaster cars, a door opens high up in the dungeon and the beautiful queen appears. “What is going on in here?” she asks. Chernabog turns quickly toward her and lobs a fireball at her. “No!” Arjuna screams as he leaps in front of the queen and takes the brunt of the fireball, saving the queen. “Arjuna?” the queen sobs in realization, “No! I can’t bear losing you again!”

Photobucket

She spreads her arms and the cavern fills with harsh white light and the sounds of agony as Maleficent and Chernabog are destroyed.

The coasters exit the final arena area and into a small predominately white and well lit room where we see the beautiful queen crying over Arjuna and healing him with her tears. Arjuna, while still a little woozy, manages to thank the people in the coaster cars for their help. The beautiful queen invites the people in the coaster cars to be the honored guests at the wedding. The coasters then enter the unloading platform, also in a bright white motif. The exit and obligatory retail shop are all designed after a wedding pavilion with a meet and greet area in the middle with a throne for both Arjuna and the beautiful queen.

Challenge 2- The Dragon's Lair, Logo

A huge castle towers over Beastly Kingdom. The outside bricks of the castle are scorched. If you listen closely, you hear some sort of roaring from inside the castle. Something isn't right...

You enter the castle and everything is dark. Torches on the walls are the only sources of light in the bleak castle. You wind through a hall before you enter the preshow room.

The preshow uses the hologram technology seen in Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey's queue. The hologram would be a guard from a foreign land (you can tell because of his features: pointed ears, accent, etc.).

"Oh, hello visitors! I see you've discovered the castle of Lord Viscard. It really is a beautiful castle, but you really don't need to stay here."

"Lord Viscard's evil brother, Ferdinand, and his dragon entered this castle long ago. His dragon killed Lord Viscard, and Ferdinand and the dragon live in here today. It's quite sad really, we villagers have not been able to conquer the dragon or Ferdinand and retrieve our treasure."

Photobucket

"...Wait. Don't tell me YOU think YOU can conquer Ferdinand and his dragon!"

He laughs and continues. "A rag tag group like you would never be able to kill a dragon this big, let alone Ferdinand! However, it is your choice, and I will not come in the way of it."

He snaps his fingers and you hear a boom. "I have prepared you some mine carts to carry you through the castle to Ferdinand and the dragon. Be careful! I wish you all luck! Oh, before I go, make sure to grab some safety visors!"

He then snaps again, and with a puff of smoke, he is gone. You then move through another hall before you arrive at the vehicles.

The vehicles are a mix of dark ride vehicles and simulators, similar to "The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man" or "Curse of DarKastle". The ride consists of real sets, 3D video screens, and special effects.

Photobucket

Once the 6 visitors board their mine cart (2 rows of 3 guests each), the ride begins. You slowly move through a corridor, where you once again meet up with the unnamed guard (projected on the first screen).

"Alas, I have decided to help you with your 'quest’. Come on, I believe the dragon's chamber is this way."

Your cart turns a corner, where the second screen awaits. Ferdinand appears and speaks to the riders.

"So, you think you can conquer my dragon and I? Ha! I'd like to see you try!"

He then "pushes" your cart, and you spin out of control to the third screen. It seems to be just an ordinary wall, but you soon see two or three beetles. The two or three turns into a whole swarm and they cover the wall. The seats in the cart make it feel like the beetles are in the cart. Your cart turns and approaches the next screen.

“There’s no escaping now!” Ferdinand yells as you encounter the dragon for the first time (on the screens). He puts his head right in front of you (3D effect) and roars. You see him blow fire right before the guard appears.

Photobucket

“This is hopeless! There’s no way we can stop Ferdinand! Hold on, we’re getting out of here!”

Using magic, he makes your cart follow him as he soars through the castle. By this time, walls are collapsing, as Ferdinand is chasing you. The guard leads you into a huge room, where the dragon awaits on the pile of treasure.

The dragon in this room is a huge Animatronic, easily 30 + feet tall. The cart boards a platform that rises up to the head of the dragon. The dragon roars and starts breathing fake fire (just smoke with lights behind it, making it look like fire). However, real fires are down below to make it look like the dragon is setting everything on fire.

The platform lowers us from the dragon and we approach the next screen. The dragon, now a part of the screen, is roaring. The guard uses our distraction to kill the dragon with a sword left by a dead man. The dragon falls with a boom, and a huge cloud of smoke.

Ferdinand, devastated, howls in disappointment and soars away, out of the castle for good. You exit that screen and approach the final screen, where the guard meets you.

“Wow, you really did it! You saved the castle, and now my village can reclaim our fortune! Thank you much!” You then meet back at the boarding area, where you exit the castle.

The ride would last about 4 minutes.

In the Fiji Islands, legends tell of the Abaia, a giant eel that lives at the bottom of large lakes. The Abaia is a very maternal creature, and thinks of all the lake's creatures as her children.

So, you can imagine how upset she can become if one of them is harmed.

According to legend, should any fisherman be foolish enough to catch one of the Abaia's children, a single swipe of the Abaia's tail will create a tidal wave that will carry the fisherman away forever.

In the Beastly Kingdom, one such lake has been discovered. Do you dare test the waters of the Abaia's rage?

Find out, on ABAIA: GUARDIAN OF THE DEEP.

Get comfortable. Get something to drink. Come with me as I share with you the newest coaster and the greatest adventure to be found in all of Walt Disney World:

Photobucket

Location: Beastly Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Walt Disney World

The Rise of the Phoenix is the most heavily themed, scariest and most exciting roller coaster ever created at any Disney park. Technically, it is a linear synchronous motor-launched steel complete circuit coaster. Thematically, it is a flight through the ruins of an abandoned, forgotten medieval realm, now inhabited by all the "mythical" creatures who have found refuge there from the modern world.

Back story: Researchers in Scotland have discovered a map that shows what appears to be a lost medieval city deep in an uninhabited area of the Scottish Highlands. Drawings of strange, mythical beasts and magical incantations written in what appears to be a forgotten runic language cover this fragile document, but all attempts to translate the meanings of the words failed until, as a last resort, an ancient Druid priest was asked to examine the map. He was able to read it easily, and told the researchers that the map showed the way to the nest of the legendary Phoenix, a bird that every one thousand years builds a nest that bursts into flames that consumes the Phoenix. From the ashes, a new Phoenix is reborn.

Photobucket

The Phoenix is guarded by dragons, centaurs, gargoyles, trolls and other creatures of myth and legend, all of whom live in the crumbling ruins of a long-forgotten medieval town now surrounded by an impenetrable forest. Only the mighty Roc, an enormous bird of prey, can enter this enchanted land, pass the powerful guardians of the Phoenix, and bring mortals to witness the amazing sight of The Rise of the Phoenix. The ancient magical incantations on the map, if cast by a Druid, will convinced the Roc to carry visitors to see this incredible experience- but they must hurry! The Phoenix is already building its nest, and they must pass all of the guardian creatures before they miss this once-in-a-millennium sight!

From James Koehl
Posted June 17, 2011 at 6:12 PM
Displays in the queue building explain the back story, show the precious map and explain to visitors the history of the Phoenix and the other legendary creatures they will encounter along the way. They will then board The Roc, a 16-passenger coaster car designed to look like a huge white eagle-like bird-of-prey with its wings folded back to allow it maximum speed.

Photobucket

It leaves the building and moves slowly into the center of Stonehenge, not the ruinous one of today but the complete structure of thousands of years ago.

Photobucket

The sounds of a chant in a strange language is heard, a smoky mist forms under the arch directly ahead of The Roc, the coaster suddenly accelerates through the mist, enters a dark and forbidding forest, and the adventure of The Rise of the Phoenix begins.

Note: There are no inversions on this coaster. Wherever possible the ride supports will be hidden or themed as tree trunks, rocky outcroppings, etc. The speed of the coaster will vary considerably depending on the action to be seen. Parts of it will be slow, almost leisurely, to allow the riders to see and appreciate the incredible animatronics created for this adventure, while other parts of the ride will be rapidly accelerating uphill shots, careening curves and near-vertical plunges,

From James Koehl
Posted June 17, 2011 at 6:40 PM
appropriate for escaping from the dozens of mythical creatures that will be encountered. Nearly the entire adventure will be outdoors, and will require the creation of a record number of all-weather animatronic creatures.

The riders find themselves racing through a forest of towering trees, huge boulders and cascading waterfalls. Suddenly, the sound of a warning horn is heard, and Centaurs are seen standing on fallen tree trunks, hillsides and rocky outcroppings. They are all armed with great bows, and are preparing to launch a volley of arrows to stop the intruders and protect the Phoenix, but the speed of the Roc is too great and the riders escape and fly deeper into the dark woods.

Ahead is seen the ruins of a castle, once majestic but now crumbling and overgrown.

Photobucket

The Roc soars to the top of the castle and begins to circle the turrets and battlemented walls, but suddenly a huge dragon rises from the center of the ruins, spreading its wings and breathing fire towards the Roc and its passengers.

Photobucket

The Roc dives to avoid the flames and escape the dragon but continues to circle the castle and its moat. From the depths of the moat a terrifying serpent-like creature rises, racing through the water, keeping pace with the Roc and attempting to bite the coaster and its riders.

Photobucket

The Roc veers away from the castle, racing through the ruins of a medieval village, where gigantic wolf-like creatures growl and snap at the intruders to their territory. It races away from them, heading for the ruins of a great cathedral, still beautiful and majestic in its crumbled condition.

Photobucket

The Roc climbs upward to once again circle the structure, past the collapsing walls and now-empty gothic windows to the highest towers of the cathedral, where much of the roof has disintegrated and fallen into the structure. The gargoyles that once carried rainwater from the roof away from the building still project from the walls- and suddenly come to life!

Photobucket

They roar and stretch their stone arms, trying to grasp the Roc and the riders, and a few even spray water towards them. The Roc dives again, finishing the circuit around the cathedral, then unexpectedly races directly through the massive front door of the structure and speeds down the nave, the central aisle of the church.

Photobucket

A church which is now occupied by trolls!

Photobucket

The trolls have constructed rough huts from the stones that have tumbled from the ruined walls and roof of the cathedral, and they don't like intruders. They start to move menacingly toward the coaster, threatening the riders with huge rocks and clubs, but the Roc speeds past them and climbs upward, flying out a gaping hole in the far wall where a huge rose window once filled the church with dazzling colors of light. It leaves the ruined town behind and hurtles through the forest until it bursts into a large clearing with an ancient stone tower in the center. This tower, nearly one hundred feet high, looks as though it grew from the very bedrock of the earth. At the top can be seen the charred remains of what once was a huge nest, the nest of the Phoenix, and smoke can be seen rising from it. The Roc rises and coasts around the top of the tower, so that the riders can see the blackened, empty remains of the nest. The Roc and its riders are too late! But wait- suddenly flames begin to rise from the smoking tower, and a beautiful bird, the color of gold and fire, rises from the ashes, spreads its wings and loudly trumpets its return and rebirth!

Photobucket

The Roc and its riders descend to begin their trip home, a trip through a forest that this time is more peaceful, more beautiful, with color and flowers... and A GIANT!!

Photobucket

The Roc suddenly finds itself flying directly toward a giant, fifty-feet tall and brandishing a huge club and a bigger attitude! He bellows his rage at the Roc and riders and begins to swing his spike-studded club, but the Roc suddenly accelerates and flies between the giant's legs to safety. The riders hear the giant roar with anger and frustration, but they race ahead and soon find themselves approaching a mist. The Roc enters the mist and the riders find themselves back in Stonehenge, but the ruined one of the present, not the original on that they left.

Photobucket

Was the entire adventure a dream? A fantasy? As they reenter the main attraction building and exit the Roc, they know that, whatever it was, they will always have the memory of experiencing and witnessing The Rise of the Phoenix.

SKIPPER DAN’S MYTHICAL CREATURES (AND WHERE TO FIND THEM) TOURS

Tucked into the far corner of the Beastly Kingdom area of Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests will find the “poor side of town”. This mini area will be full of roadside style store facades advertising “2 for 1 Dinner Cruises”, “Buy 1 get 3 free t-shirts” and cheesy dinner theater discount tickets for shows like: “Larry Storch in DEATH OF A SALESMAN”, “HERBIE THE LOVE BUG…ON ICE!” and “UNCLE VINNIE’S ITALIAN AMERICAN STEREOTYPE WEDDING starring Abe Vigoda”. We are obviously in a tourist trap area like what you’d find in Kona, Hawaii or Old Town Kissimmee. Around the area you’ll see billboards for area attractions like “THE BIGGEST RUBBER BAND BALL in the COUNTY”, “COUSIN FESTUS’ YOU CATCH EM YOU KEEP EM SNAPPING GATOR FARM” and “THE COUNTIES LARGEST FLEA CIRCUS”.
The queue begins at Skipper Dan’s converted surfboard rental shack that has a hand painted sign reading “SKIPPER DAN’S CRUISES” painted on a rather beat up looking hull of an old boat. The queue will pass through the offices with drawings and alleged, grainy photos of mythical creatures you may…or may not see on this cruise. Over the queue’s intercom system you’ll hear piped in radio announcements advertising the shops and billboards you passed while getting to the ride.
The ride vehicle will be very similar to the Jungle Cruise’s, minus the awning over your heads, making this a completely open air ride vehicle. It will be obvious these are indeed old Jungle Cruise boats as the hulls will read CONGO PRINCESS and AMAZON ADVENTURESS but hastily crossed out in black felt tip pen and rechristened LOCH NESS LADY, DRAGON’S DAMSEL, SASQUATCH SIREN and THE FLYING WASP (the owner is obviously a Caddyshack fan).
You climb aboard the boat (capacity 35) and are hosted by a live castmember introducing themselves as Skipper Dan or Skipper Danni, depending on the sex of the boat’s skipper.

From Joseph Catlett
Posted June 17, 2011 at 8:22 PM
The mood of the ride is Jungle Cruise for the 21st century meets the Great Movie ride. The skipper at key points in the ride will verbally interact with audio animatronic characters.
Skipper Dan:
“Welcome to the tour everyone, we’re going on a harrowing trip into the darkest recesses of imagination, a place torn out of nightmares, where you’ll see sights that leave you questioning your own sanity……so everyone sit back and enjoy. It ought to be fun!”
Our boat then takes off into the swamp ahead of us , through a rainforest and into the first scene: A Greek Temple Ruin full of badly done plywood board cutouts of greek mythological monsters and dime store mannequins. Its obvious this was done on the cheap.
Skipper Dan:
Well looky here, do my eyes deceive me or is this the ruins of Mount Olympus home to the ancient Greek Gods. Look over there, its Pegasus. That’s what happened when Zeus was creating pigeons and horses on the same day but forgot his glasses. That’s Medusa right there, boy when they handed out ugly she got back in line…twice! That little pup over there is Cerebus the hound of hades….good boy want a milk bone?”
At this point a booming voice announces:
Zeus:
“ENOUGH! Foolish mortal you have insulted the gods of Olympus once too many times!”
Skipper Dan:
“Foolish Mortal? What is this the Haunted Mansion?”
Zeus:
“SILENCE! I am Zeus, father of all greek gods ( at this point the ruin statue head of Zeus comes to life) your insistence on mocking all mythic creatures with cheap knockoffs and bad jokes will not go unanswered you smelly, 2nd rate tour hustler. Continue on with your tour, but know this, everything you see from now on will be ALL TOO REAL!!!”
Our boat continues on.
Skipper Dan:
“Well……..that’s…….different. Might as well head on. “
We then head to the next scene, an arid desert looking area with Jackalopes running around and a snarling Chupacabra menacing our boat from the shore.

From Joseph Catlett
Posted June 18, 2011 at 5:40 AM
We then continue onto a medieval looking castle ruin where we see a Phoenix perched on a branch and then burst into flame. Further on, passing the castle we enter a large open water area with a sign that reads LOCH NESS. Suddenly a flurry of bubbles emanates from the water and our boat is rocked as the Loch Ness Monster breaches the surfaces, his head hovering over us, and snorts water vapor at the boat and then bellows an angry roar.
Skipper Dan:
“Easy big fella!Easy!”
The monster then rears back its head and knocks the front of our boat sending us hurtling backwards down a track switch towards a densely wooded forest bank. We finally slow down and come to a stop in front of a giant pot of gold on the banks of the river, a glittering rainbow glows above our heads (double rainbow?)
Skipper Dan:
“Well it looks that monster did me a favor after all. GOLD! I’m rich…I mean WE’RE rich. Gold enough to get me the heck out of this hick town for good and away from all these annoying tourists…or sorry, nothing personal. Still, look, everybody the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!"
At this point a Leprechaun rises up from behind the pot of gold.
Leprechaun:
“Oh, tis your gold is it? This be mine, I’m the owner of this and no third rate tour hustler is taking it away from me, boyo!”
Skipper Dan:
“Third rate? C’mon second rate at worst…and besides I thought if we found a leprechaun’s pot of gold we get to keep it?”
Leprechaun:
“Well you can have it if you can grab it, but I’ve no such inclination to that spin of events. Spin? That’s a great idea…spin, spin, spin. HA HA HA !!!!
The Leprechaun then raises both his arms and chants an incantation that sends our boat spinning (on a submerged turntable) as if we were in a whirlpool. Fog rolls in and lightning strikes as we spin 3 times and end up floating away, again in a forward direction into a cave whose entrance is guarded by a half dozen smoldering and still partly ablaze suits of armor.
We are now in the den of a large dragon as the fire and smoke effects suggest.
Skipper Dan:
“Who left the oven on?”
A massive green dragon makes its presence known spitting fire at our boat and setting the water ablaze, similar to the Maleficent Dragon effect in Fantasmic.
Skipper Dan:
“Wait, hold on I’ve seen this show. Sorceror Mickey? You around here? I guess not, I must be dreaming….some imagination, huh?”
We then leave the cave and head into a forest clearing where we see a small battalion of Centaurs staring us down, bows pointed at us, ready to fire at a moments notice.

From Joseph Catlett
Posted June 17, 2011 at 8:27 PM
Centaur:
“Who are you that disturbed our dragon? You smelly 4th rate tour hustler?”
Skipper Dan:
“What’s with all the insults? What? Your dragon…like it’s a pet? Buddy, I’ll tell you I’ve seen some strange pets in my time…but boy I tell you….”
Centaur:
“Enough! You are not welcome here, leave now or feel our wrath!”
Skipper Dan:
“Listen, can’t we at least get directions…I have no idea where we are, and I’ve got this boatful of rubes here who…..”
Centaur:
“Move on. NOW!”
Skipper Dan:
“ Can’t you at least tell me how to get to International Drive from here?”
Centaur:
“Bows at ready….fire!
The Centaurs draw back their bows and the sound of arrows is heard and air jets blow out making us think arrows are flying right past our heads.
Skipper Dan:
“Alright already! How rude. Well let’s get moving.”
We then pass a group of mermaids sunning themselves on the rocks, waving to our boat as a herd of Unicorns look on.
We then float past a scene that looks like the Pacific Northwest as we see Bigfoot loping across the way in the style of the famous Bigfoot Super 8 movie footage.
The final scene begins as we float up next to a giant Sphynx that stops us and warns.
Sphynx:
“None shall pass timid explorers and you, oh smelly 5th rate tour hustler.”
Skipper Dan:
“Hey! Let’s not get personal here!”
Sphynx:
“None shall pass….except those that can solve THE RIDDLE OF THE SPHYNX.”
Skipper Dan:
“Well, go ahead, make with the riddle. If we answer it we can get back to civilization right. Oh, but what happens if we get it wrong?”
Sphynx:
“This.”
The Sphynx shoots lasers out of its eyes and a rock wall on the other bank of the river explodes with a puff of smoke and a loud bang.
Skipper Dan:
“Oh.”
Sphynx:
“The riddle is:
WHICH CREATURE IN THE MORNING GOES ON 4 LEGS, AT MIDDAY ON 2 AND IN THE EVENING UPON 3, AND THE MORE LEGS IT HAS, THE WEAKER IT BE?”
Skipper Dan then questions everyone on board to see if anyone knows the answer, after a moment of two if no gets it Skipper Dan then figures it out and says.
Skipper Dan:
“MAN! 4 legs as a baby, 2 as an adult and 3 with a cane in old age!”
Sphynx:
“Well played mortals, you have free passage to return to your world….and next time give a little more respect to those things humans do not understand.”
Our boat then heads back to dock and the unloading area as we are thanked for riding.
Exit boat.
Ride length: 8 minutes.

RIDE NAME: PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS
RIDE TYPE: 5D ROLLER COASTER
RIDE LENGTH: 5 MINUTES/2800 FT
RIDE HEIGHT: 80 FT
RIDE SPEED: 50 MPH MAX

The Odyssey is the world's first 5D coaster in that it incorperates simulation, 3D technology, 4D motion effects, and interactivity all on a roller coaster ride. The way this is done is quite simple. Riders are given three choices for different ride experiences in line before riding, adding the interactivity to the ride. Each path leads to a different queue area which will board special vehciles similar to the KUKA Arm robotic system. If the group, for example, selects Hades, the vehcile they are in will only play the sound and operate the motion for that experience. Because all three ride experiences are on the same track, each vehicle has a sensor upon leaving the station which when scanned by the ride system, will display the correct film on each projector screen the riders see in correlation with the vehicle, thus providing three different ride experiences on the same track! So let's begin!

Upon arriving to Disney's Animal Kingdom, you can see the top of a 120 ft. volcano on its horizon. Once you make your way to Beastly Kingdom, the giant volcano can bee seen in its full glory.

Volcano With Ride Entrance Below

Once you reach the entrance to Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Odyssey, you find the logo for the ride glowing as if on fire in dark stone above the entrance.

Entering the queue, you begin walking through a long cave, barely lit. You then enter an indoor switchback area which is themed with all sorts of different props like Zeus' lightning bolt, Poseidon's trident, etc.

From here you enter a large chamber to make your decision. Because this is the world's first 5D roller coaster, it incorporates 3D simulation, 4D motion effects, and to complete th 5D, interactivity. In the large chamber, you get to choose the path you take. Your three options are Hades, Medusa, and Kraken, all of which you are on a journey to battle and try to defeat these monsters once and for all.

If you choose the path of Hades, your ride will begin entering the underworld alonside PErcy and his friends. Upon entering, you cross the Sea of the Dead before encountering Cerberus, the giant three headed dog, which will then chase you through the Underworld. Once this scene begins, you enter a coaster portion of the ride which winds through pitch darkness at a mid intensity level before entering a new scene. You now pass through the gates of Hades and finally meet HAdes who captures all of you and has you sent to be imprisoned in the Underworld forever. From here, you climb the 80 ft. lift hill which has you exit the volcano shortly. You then hear over the speakers, PErcy telling your group the plan and the coaster dives into a ninty foot drop as you here Hades screaming from torture. The ride winds a bit through darkness, entering a couple helixes along the way before finishing off with a view of Percy and his friends thanking you for helping them defeat Hades.

If you choose the path of Medusa, your ride begins entering Medusa's Lair with Percy and Friends. Winding down into Medusa's deep firery fortress, you begin to hear her voice calling to you, but Percy tells you to avoid eye sight with her. The vehicle then turns onto a dark coaster section which winds through darkness as you hear Medusa's voice getting closer and closer until you find her. Percy "gives you a mirror" so that you can see Medusa without looking directly at her. She talks relaxed about how she is going to torture you before suddenly longing at you. The vehcile spins and enters an 80 foot lift hill which briefly exits the volcano before diving into darkness as you defeqat Medusa. Percy and his friends thank you for helping them defeat Medusa.

If you choose the path of Kraken, your ride begins entering a dark tunnel where you hear the crashing of waves. The cave opens up upon a dark sea where a storm is brewing, waves crashing against the rocks, vehcile swaying with the sea. Suddenly you see a giant wave form which "crashes upon the vehicle" (riders get sprayed with water) and you enter a dark coaster portion of the ride. Exiting this section, you finally encounter the Kraken as it slowly rises out of the water, the largest thing you have ever seen in your wntire life, and you enter an exciting simulator scene as you wind through the air diving out of the way from the Kraken's attacks before you turn and enter an 80 ft. lift hill which briefly exits the volcano before diving 90 ft. into a dark roller coaster ride as you defeat the Kraken. The ride finishes with Percy and his friends thanking you for helping defeat the kraken.
-------------------------------------------------

The Odyssey is the perfect blend of everything a theme park visitor would want: Eye Poping 3D, action packed simulator ride, interactivity, and thrilling roller coaster elements make this a one-of-a-kind attraction unlike any other!

The Building:
The building for Arabian Fury is an old and worn down Arabian Palace and its colors are purely black. In front of the palace is what appears to be the old courtyard and mirror pool that is now overgrown with stone paths being cracked in places. What would have been the grand entrance to the palace is now boarded up and the palace has an overall sense of danger/death to it. On the left side of the palace is a gaping hole, presumably made from one of the beasts. This is where the entrance to the ride is and lockers can be found in the "shed" right outside of the entrance.

Ride Que:
As you enter the palace the first room you are brought into is the dining room. Immedietly the elaborate surroundings show the wealth Prince Maresh had. From there you go back outside onto the balcony behind the palace where have a great view of his small desert lake. Here you can see the coasters coming out over the lake in one of the final scenes of the ride, and also the most exhilerating.
Photobucket
(this is what the desert lake would look like, with Palm trees and the coasters out over it, but with sandy shores and less brush.)

Once you get back inside you find yourself in what was the master bedroom. Inside of the bedroom you notice that everything is basically destroyed except for a large screen found on the wall. This is actually the preshow area and once 50ppl are inside of the room and the door close the screen statics and comes to life. A man is shown on the screen, and it is Prince Maresh. He appears to have recorded this a while ago but it shows him hiding in his closet recording himself with a personal recorder. In a very scared tone he says "My friends, it is obvious that I cannot control these beasts. (In backround you hear a shrill schreech by the Phoenix) They are too much to handle, and I fear that they will find my hiding place soon. I beseech your help. This is not a job for one man, but I know that if we work together that we can tame these incredible beasts. My plan is for you to split up and choose which beast you would like to try and tame. Through these doors are two corridors, each leading to the sleeping dens of the Leviathan and Phoenix that I have found. If you are careful enough a group of you should be able to get on the backs of these before it wakes up. Once you are on it, I wish you good luck because once the beast wakes up, it will be a difficult ride to tame them. Please save my pala...."(Phoenix crashes throught the ceiling and the prince yells. The beast grabs the Prince with its claws. The screen then statics again and goes black.) Back in the palace the doors to the bedroom open outward. Through the doors the corridor goes left or right..to the Leviathan or Phoenix's sleeping lairs. You choose which beast you want to tame and walk your way to the boarding area for that beast's coaster.

THE RIDE EXPERIENCE
Leviathan Side:
Photobucket

The Leviathan track of Arabian Fury is a B&M floorless coaster design so that it simulates the effect of the Leviathan gliding over the water and into the air. (floorless coaster like Kraken at Sea World Orlando)
Photobucket

The track is painted all silver and the coaster train is a violet color with blue accents, along with a scaly design to the train. The ride itself starts in the indoor pool, where the Leviathan is sleeping. You then board the 32 passenger train and once the brakes are released you follow the flow of the pool water which goes down into a large hole in the floor and down into a water created, underground tunnel. Once you come to a standstill in the cavern, the Leviathan wakes up. With a bloodcurtling roar the coaster train is launched forward at 70mph around a tight right turn and into a large embanked turn up over the palace. Here you do a corckscrew scene around the Phoenix track (close encounter) before taking a nose dive right back through a hole in the roof of the palace. Inside you do a quick cobra roll and dive back down into another underground water cavern. Underground you follow the cavern tunnel into a large loop before the track takes you out over the desert lake. On the lake the train is heading right at the Phoenix side before the track ducks down a few feet and the Phoenix flies just feet above you and you can look up at the close encounter with the track. Then you turn right into an immelman, turning you back around where you have a calmer ride with a few turns back into the palace. You roll into the kitchen and the train comes to a stop and a sound is played sounding like the Leviathan taking a deep exhausted breath. You and your fellow riders have now tamed the Leviathan. After disembarking the train you follow another long corridor before reuniting with Phoenix passengers and are brought right into the gift shop, which used to be the Princes jewelrey and memrobilia room.

Phoenix Side:
Photobucket

The boarding room for the Phoenix track is in what would have been the great room, and the track is right next to an immense fire burning in the fireplace.(since it is the fire bird) You board your B&M Flying coaster train which, like Manta has a ray as the leading car to the train, this would have a Phoenix leading the train. The colors of the track are all gold and the coaster train itself is red with orange accents.
Photobucket

To start the ride, the coaster rolls into an old maintenance room which actually was the fiery hot furnace room. This is where the great fire bird screeches and wakes up launching you uphill at 65mph right out the roof and 185ft in the air before doing a close encounter corksrcrew around the Leviathan track and train. Next you do the largest Pretzel loop yet, diving back down into the palace where you do a tight turn to the left and into a smoldering hot lava tunnel. You follow the tunnel before crashing through the floor of the maint atrium of the palace and you do a cobra roll, turning you around and heading you right back outside onto the desert lake. Here you travel directly at the Leviathan track before swooping up a few feet and riders literally look just a few feet down at the Leviathan train that they almost hit. After this the track does an immelman which takes them back around where you head into the palm trees and do some sharp turns through those before a gentle downhill through the glass of the green house. The Phoenix screeches in its loss and you have tamed the Beast! After exiting the green house you follow a long corridor before meeting back up with Leviathan riders and head into the gift shop.

Congratulations you have tamed the legendary beasts of the Leviathan and Phoenix and have saved the beautiful palace!

Attraction Name: ABAIA-GUARDIAN OF THE DEEP
Attraction Type: Roller-Coaster with Flume Elements

Ride Location: Away from the mythical and fantastical sights of the rest of the Beastly Kingdom, guests will find a large, peaceful lake, magically arriving in the Fiji Islands. A small lake-side village of simple huts form the Queue. In the distance of the other side of the lake, guests can see the rest of the village raising up on a hill.

(This is actually a forced-perspective effect. The huts are miniature, and the rising hill is the show-building. The lake curves around the hill, hiding the outdoor portion of the coaster.)

Queue: Guests wind through the small Fiji Island fishing village of Rata Seru. Traditional music plays as guests walk. As they travel, they see carved images of what looks like a large eel. The images grow more eerie as they begin to depict the eel swallowing whole boats of fishermen. The guests exit the village and enter a small cave.

The sound of dripping water surrounds the guests as they explore the cave, their path lit by flickering lanterns on the walls. At last, they find a large chamber. Every five-to-seven minutes, an old fisherman (CM) stands on a raised stone and tells the legend of the Abaia, the Guardian of the Deep. He speaks of the Abaia's maternal nature, and explains the dark fate of any who would harm the Abaia's adopted children. He explains that Rata Seru was founded a century before, and an Abaia was encountered shortly after. The Abaia saw the villagers were pure and gave them permission to fish, so long as they never fished in the Abaia's cove and never fished more than they needed. The fisherman's mood grows dark as he talks of foolish outsiders seeking greater prizes in the Abaia's cove. He warns guests to turn back, then vanishes into the darkness.

Loading Platform: Guests move through a final short tunnel before coming to a natural spring in the cave, feeding into the lake. Here, guests are loaded into special boats. Each boat has 4 rows of four, allowing 16 guests to ride each time. Once seated, lap-bars are lowered into place and the boats set off, carried by the spring's current.

Ride Experience: The boats float through the cool caves brielfy before rounding a corner and spying a scene up ahead. A bright beam of sunlight on the wall allows a trio of siloquettes standing on a boat to be seen. They are pulling a net of fish from the water. They make jokes on their bounty, but never see the gigantic shape rise from the waters, blotting the out the sun. The three scream and a huge splash is heard. The sun shines once more, just in time to show a small, now empty and capsized, boat being carried into the cave by a large wave. A menacing female voice echoes in the cave.

"Foolish humans. You wish to test my patience? You shall test my rage instead!"

A huge shape passes by the boat, just beneath the surface. The boat turns to reveal the end of the cave, the sun shining outside. A tidal wave suddenly materializes, rushing at the boat. Just before it crushes the boat, the power of it drives the boat foward, launching it out of the cave. The boats, now travelling 50 miles an hour, suddenly rise from the water into a twisting, turning roller-coaster over the lake. After two loops and numerous turns, the guests suddenly find themselves diving towards the lake. With a mighty splash, the boat plunges into the dark depths of the water, rising and flowing with the current.

Dominick, this is absolutely unnecessary to attack someone's idea like that. Completely uncalled for and incredibly rude. We are all trying to present great ideas, and while some may not be perfect, it gives you no right to attack someone with those types of comments.

I never thought I would have to say it but any more disrespectful comments like these from anyone will be automatic grounds for expulsion from the game, and any that follow.

Legend of the Bog

For many years Animal Kingdom fans have asked and hoped for a land devoted to mythical creatures and/or a land celebrating the wild nature of Australia (to match those representing Asia and Africa). Legend of the Bog does both; it brings forth the wild and wonderful Outback and a traditional tale of a ferocious beast.

The ride would be located in a sort of “mini-land” within Beastly Kingdom. It is a small town called Cobram and is located in the Victoria province of Australia (this is actually a real town but the Disney version is romanticized and modified to enhance the experience). All cast members are in character and have convincing accents. If you ask any of them, they’ll tell you to avoid the creepy house on Murray Lane, but none will tell you why. In the town is a small sit-down restaurant called Cobram Cuisine and a few shops selling various merchandise. The town is surrounded by grassland speckled here and there by trees and cacti.

The ride would be located inside a large show building that would house the entire attraction. The whole experience would occur at night and thus a show building is necessary. The façade of the show building is masked thanks to some cleverly placed hills (creating natural berms), trees and brush, and an old house.

Photobucket

QUEUE: The queue begins on windy dirt trail through sparse grassland. At the trail head (which is connected to a small dirt road that originates from Cobram) a mailbox reads:

The Smith Family
456 Murray Lane
Cobram, Victoria
Australia

The trail leads to the front porch of the old house. Obviously the house has not been well kept. Nature has taken over in a few places and the house appears to be listing to one side. Many shingles are missing from the roof and the wood looks weathered and faded. As guests wait in the derelict house, floorboards creak beneath their feet and even the slightest breeze causes the house to sway a little (done as an effect, it will not actually sway).

Photobucket

Guests pass first through the living room, where the furniture appears to be in a bit of disarray. The next stop is up the front staircase to the bedrooms. As you pass through the master bedroom and other bedroom you can see that something has occurred here, as nothing is where it should be; sheets strewn across the floor, bedside tables knocked over, broken lamps. The question continues to swim around in your mind: “What happened here?”

You then make your way back downstairs via a secondary staircase where the banister is broken and something dark has dried along the wall near the floor. Silently you ask your self: “Blood?” The further back you venture into the house the darker it seems to become (this is when you transition into the show building). Flickering lamps sway lazily from the ceiling and appear every now and then along the walls. These lamps light the way for the rest of your journey through the house.

At the foot of the stairs is the kitchen. From the window over the sink, you can see that it is now nighttime. The mystery of night enhances the creepiness and fear experienced by walking through this haunting home. The kitchen shows the greatest evidence of distress so far. There are shards of glass and broken dishes all over the floor. Doors on the cupboards are hanging only by their hinges. The table is missing a leg and has since collapsed. One of the floorboards has even been ripped up. It’s obvious now, those dark dried marks are definitely blood, but how?, what caused it?, WHY?........ If one knows where to look, they may see what look like very large dog prints, bits of dark animal hair, and scratch marks in a few places. The most telltale sign is marks of blood that make it look like something was dragged from the kitchen table area and out through the back door.

The queue takes guests out the same door and into the back yard. You can tell that a chain-link fence once enclosed the yard. Much of it has been overtaken by the brush, except for one section that appears to have been smashed in as if by a small elephant. The path line takes you through the opening in the gate and over to a small, enclosed boathouse on the banks of a misty, but calm river. The air is muggy and sticky, like a hot Florida night.

The boathouse is much like the home it sits behind. It is old and weathered with a faded blue roof and wooden siding. Many of the windows here too are broken or missing and the door is lying in the grass next to the shack. Inside the boathouse guests see a few fishing poles leaning against the wall, an open tackle box, and a few faded and torn tide charts and maps of the local waterways. On the opposite wall is a large poster reading:

WARNING

WATCH OUT FOR DANGEROUS ANIMALS AND BEASTS INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

Brown Snake
Tiger Snake
Red Back Spider
Funnel Web Spider
White Tail Spider
Crocodile
B p

Under each animal is a picture and explanation. But what it that last animal and why does it say “beasts”? The middle letters appear to be smudged and the picture and explanation torn out, but why?

It is now time to load; a boat pulls into the boathouse and awaits you and your wondering mind….

RIDE VEHICLE: The boat is of simple design with a wooden hull. It looks a lot like the one pictured above, except it is larger and more aged. The paint is faded and chipped in many areas, and a lone oil lamp at the front of the boat lights the dark river in front of you and casts a creepy light on the guests sitting in the boat. An old motor sits on the back of the boat (the “fake” force propelling your boat throughout the ride, the track is hidden underneath the water) The boat has 5 rows that each seat four. The restraint is a shared lap bar per each row, much like Jurassic Park River Adventure restraints.

RIDE: Your boat moves out of the protection of the boathouse and into the dark marsh beyond. As your boat takes a first bend, a deceiving calm dominates the senses.

Just then, the bushes rustle of to your right, startling most everyone on board. The grass parts and a large snake hisses and spits at your boat (getting a few people wet). This leads to a break in the tension as a few giggles are sure to follow when the kids see mom get hit right in the face by the AA snake’s “venom”. But just as you begin to feel calm and composed a growl emits from the bushes off to your left. This is a low guttural growl made by some sort of large animal. Your boat then takes an unexpectedly swift movement and turns away from the origin of the growl.

The boat picks up speed as the wake behind your boat grows and the motor whines louder. Your boat accelerates towards a thinner stream but then two large, yellow eyes shine menacingly right in front of you, causing your boat to make a hard, banked turn down another tributary. This turn kicks up water and you hear the beast growl once more.

You boat slows down and you feel the effects of your quick turn as you bob up and down slightly. Just then a few logs surface near your boat, but they aren’t logs, they’re crocodiles. Their eyes open hungrily and they attempt to attack your boat, thrashing and chomping the water.

Your boat attempts to go backwards but you are bogged down in the mud, the boat vibrates as the motor attempts to wrench itself free. You suddenly catch a break and you jolt backwards before sharply turning down an even thinner stream.

You are now going faster than ever before. The breeze causes your hair to blow and the brush whips by enhancing the feeling of speed. The boat follows the turns in the river with ease, but it soon becomes apparent that something is following you, chasing you. The sound of paws striking mud permeates the whine of the motor. A quick look over your shoulder yields no view of your pursuer, but you can tell it’s getting closer, you can hear its breathing now. The beast sounds hungry just waiting for you to make a wrong turn or run into the riverbank.

From Adam Nodjomian
Posted June 18, 2011 at 3:36 PM
And then, just when you least expect it…the sound of the beast fades away, “has it given up?” you think to yourself….

No it was just tricking you, something huge, the size of a large horse leaps from one bank to another, right over your boat! Its huge teeth bared, claws shining brightly in the moonlight. Your boat takes a quick turn and finds itself in a dead end! Nothing but grassland on three sides.

You try to back out, but you’re stuck again! The motor shuts off and it is eerily quiet nothing but the chirping of crickets and the slow movement of the river behind you can be heard….

SNAP! Something breaks in the brush directly to your right….

Just then something hits the boat from your left and the boat rocks.

Last, and most frightening of all, the strange creature that has been stalking you and just jumped over your boat a few moments ago, rises slowly, ominously out of the brush no more than 5 feet right in front of you! The moonlight illuminates the creature’s large yellow eyes, gigantic bloodstained teeth and 6-inch long claws. It is the size of a large horse but has the appearance of a dog.

You quickly formulate the following in your mind: This is the creature that destroyed that house, this was the missing beast on the poster in the boathouse, this is the thing that’s about to eat me too!

Suddenly, as the creature lurches towards your boat with both teeth and claws at the ready, you accelerate backwards down a steep 30-foot drop and into a splashdown (you will get wet).

Your boat rotates back around and you realize you dropped into a larger lake that is much better lighted. Up ahead is a more modern-looking boathouse. The boat unloads here. After the boats have been unloaded they travel up a lift hill back to the loading station.

EXIT: After getting off your boat, you travel back to ground level thanks to a ramp that first passes over the splashdown area (so you can get even more wet if you wish) and then out of the show building and back into the small town area.

The exit line leads to a gift shop called Cobram Collectibles.

Oh and in case you were wondering, the creature is called a bunyip, research it if you'd like. The unripped version of the poster in the boathouse can also be found in the shops (for sale and on the walls) as well as in the restaurant.

The Beast Within

In the Beastly Kingdom there is a said to be dormant volcano Mt. Broggie. The Volcanic Institute for Exploration and Discovery has decided to setup camp at the base of the mountain and brought with them a specially design train that allows scientists and visitors to the mountain a chance to actually go inside and ride the vents, see the magna chamber and show you the different parts of the different parts of the volcano.
Photobucket

Well, your guide and lead scientist for this mission a Dr. Marty Sinclair decides he wants to take you and fellow guests and scientist to an unexplored and undocumented part of the volcano where he has found a really cool find and bring about evidence that a mythical creature Phoenix once was an actually living animal!

Well this trip wakes up The Beast Within!
Photobucket

Queue:
Guests enter the ride in the Volcanic Institute for Exploration and Discovery at the base of Mt. Broggie and you actually go through the camp site and see what real volcanologists use to study volcanoes and other mountains. You get a bit of history here with where the volcano derives its name from and the various types of volcano’s whether it by on land, sea or on other planets!

Preshow:
Then guests are ushered into the preshow area where the Director of the Volcanic Institute for Exploration and Discovery Dr. Hannah Masse describe to you what they are doing here and what the trains are and other information about the area and she also introduce you to Dr. Marty Sinclair, who will be your guide. You immediately get a weird vide from the guy and you know something is up!

Vehicles:
The Volcanic Institute for Exploration and Discovery have taken great pride and money in there ride vehicles and want to make sure that all guest feel safe so they decided that all guest need to wear a safety restraint while in the vehicles.

They all have speed governors and are set to specific speeds for each location that the train goes into to make sure each guest are safe. They have also installed speakers into each seat so that the guest can listen without any hindrance to the guide at all times.

Ride:
The Director of the Volcanic Institute for Exploration and Discovery Dr. Hannah Masse, starts off the ride to make sure every thing is safe after all the restraints are in place and starts the ride on a leisurely pace to the core of the volcano where she hands it off to Dr. Marty who goes by the “guide book” as he puts it, and continues the pace until he gets to a certain junction.

He gets to this junction and says that he has hidden new track in one of the vents to get to secret vent that hasn’t been explored yet and has found some neat stuff but we have to be quick so he disables the governor to the train and off you go!

At this point the roller coaster starts. You are launched from 0-65mph in 2.9 seconds on a thrilling journey to Dr. Mart’s secret vent. You do a couple twists and turns and loops inside the volcano and you abruptly stops. Dr. Marty yells “I found it” and grabs the specimen of the Phoenix with the trains mechanical arms and puts into the storage box on the train. Then you feel a rumble…

You feel a rumble a a loud roar and Dr. Marty cant believes what he’s seeing, heck he doesn’t have to worry he’s not on the train!, and wants to record everything! Out of the gloom within the vent a Dragon appears.

He roars again and says “Who has Awaken Me?!” Dr. Marty says obviously answers and wants to know who he is and the Dragon says “Enough of your talk where in the Phoenix Amulet? It will bring me great POWER!!!!” Dr. Marty says “ We haven’t seen it when or if we do we will come looking for you! We will just leave now” the Dragon answers “NO YOU HAVE IT!!!” and opens his mouth and you see fire forming in the audio-animatronics mouth. At this time Dr. Marty decides its time to go and you shot off again but you feel the fire from behind you.

This other launch isn’t as powerful but this launch shots you up and through the cone of the mountain to the outside and back in in another vent. You go through more loops, corkscrews and inversions to where the coaster slows and Dr. Marty says “Whew we…I mean you made” his speech is interrupted again by the Dragon’s audio-animatronics head, right in your path he says “Now I’ve got you” and starts to make a fireball again and the coaster launches you again!

This time you feel like your being chased and you hear stomps and roars from behind then you hear the a singsong beautiful birdlike call. Dr. Marty is screaming and cant believe his eyes the Phoenix out of the dust of the volcano emerges and fights the Dragon.

As you are pulling up to the exit Dr Marty has setup monitors showing the epic battle with very bad and jumpy video feed from the train of the Phoenix defeating the Dragon. A lot of the video images are of course through either infrared imaging and on shadows thrown on the wall due to fires or what not. Dr. Marty is really upset because he cant actually see the Phoenix or the Dragon clearly and really wants you not him or course, who else is going to push the buttons!, immediately and get better pictures!

This ride will be unique because its almost like 3 short coasters made into one big coasters and most coasters don’t stop!

To do this the track will be split in two with the first part which will include the load, Dr. Hannah Masse introduction and the junction of old and new track and then the first initial launch, and then the stop to find the Phoenix Amulet. Then the track splits into four sections.

The four sections for the Dragon Scene allows more trains on the track at one time which will allow the rid to have a higher capacity! So the ride can have up almost 8-10 trains on the track at one time which means shorted wait times in line!

The second section will include the second launch, the second dragon scene, the monitor scene of the Phoenix/Dragon battle, and exit. This part will actually be connected to the first part for the trains to easily go to the load area.

Hopefully I tied up the loose ends hear!

Ride Conclusion: In the darkness, two mammoth eyes illuminate before the guests. The female voice speaks again.

"I see into your hearts... and they are pure. Go in peace, humans. But do not test me again. I will not be so merciful next time."

The eyes flash brighter, revealing the titanic head of the Abaia (and to snap the ride photo) as the boat launches up and over the Abaia's head. Guests suddenly stop in the darkness as lanterns flicker to life, revealing the unload station. Guests exit the boats and head out of the caves and into a seperate part of Rata Seru, where they may purchase Fiji arts and crafts, as well as Abaia merchandise.

My ride is Mermaid Isle. It would be a family friendly dark ride, through the island that the mermaids inhabit.

Queue:
The queue will twist and turn through a "magical" forest and a boat house, before ending at a dock. It won't be like the queue from Jaws, more of a cartoon version. There will be multiple maps of the island that the guests will be taking a tour of. All five of the specific lands that the ride will go through will be shown on the map, as well as the surrounding areas. These would include Kraken Cove and Unicorn Lagoon. The riders would board the tour boats at a dock.

Vehicle:
The riders would board 4 to a row, with 5 rows. They will be much like any other flume ride.

Ride:
The ride will start out with a voiceover from the guide, Capt. Freewill. "Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to Freewill's Four Hour Tours. We offer the longest tours of Mermaid Isle departing here from Orlando. Even though everyone else offers only three hour tours, we have gone the extra-mile and given you a four hour tour for the exact same price. We even go places other boat tours wouldn't dare." The first room is a giant version of the map that was all around during the queue. "First I want everyone to take a quick look at the map and memorize it. I'll try to tell you everything you need to know, but every once in a while I forget a few things. This will make sure that you always know where we are."
The first stop, Lagoon of Life, is the lagoon where all of the mermaids return once each year to lay their eggs. It's a magical place that has rainbow lights emitting from all of the pools. This, along with all of the rest of the ride, will be built entirely out of sets. No video screens.
The second stop is called Genesis Grotto. This is the area of the island that is widely believed to have been the area of the island where mermaids were created. This area would have skeletons of old mermaids, as well as many different kinds of large animatronic fish swimming around the grotto.
The third stop is called the Gulf of Gentlemen. This is where all of the mermen hang out when it isn't mating season. There would be many animatronic mermen around, and ey would all be playing what appears to be water polo.
The fourth stop is called the Waters of the Future. This is where all of the mermaids and mermen gather once every year
for mating season. There would be geysers all around the wading pools. They would get the boat wet.
Before the boat would be allowed to get to the fifth spot, it would have to go through a tunnel with swirling lights. It's the portal that goes to Mermaid Isle. Mermaid Isle isn't actually connected to the rest. You have to go through a portal to get there. This is the area of the boat ride that no other tours would ever dare go.
Once you get to Mermaid Isle, the mermaids are everywhere. They are frolicking in the water, they are sitting up on the rocks, they are even jumping over the boat. The mermaids get angry that the boat has passed through their cove. The captain of the boat tries to bargain with the mermaids. The mermaids aren't having any of it, and the boat begins to move faster and faster. All of a sudden, a giant merman comes up in front of the boat and the boat takes a drop underneath it.
The captain says "Sorry folks that the boat ride took a bad turn. If we hadn't had to leave early it would've been much more in depth. I promise. Unfortunately, I have to let you off now. Hopefully you'll ride with us again."

Dominick- I think you improved quite a bit from last week. The idea was less spread out and more cohesive. Just try to get your idea all in one post, or at least close. Interesting direction and interpretation by using Vampires and Zombies.

Jeff- I think you did a marvelous job with your story telling. While it is apparent this story is very detailed, you did a great job with handling it. I enjoyed the ending of the ride where people would encounter Maleficent and Chernabog, but felt they might have been a bit out of place.

Andy- It is hard to take an idea that we have heard about and make it your own. However, I think you did a great job of adding your own twist and creating your own unique story.

James- I have to say that you've out done yourself. I feel that you really grasped what I was trying to get people to do in this challenge. Great story and great ride, My favorite this week.

Joseph- I really did enjoy your ride. As I'm sure you're aware, it does sound close to Jungle Cruise. I just worry about making rides so close to another, even if they are different. Still one of my favorites this week. Funny and good work.

Nick- I was intrigued by the mention of a 5d coaster! I liked the 3 different paths and emphasis on Greek mythology here. I didn't think adding the Percy Jackson theme was completely necessary, especially as it isn't associated with Disney.

Colin- Another amazing sounding ride. It sounded epic and insane. Love the paint scheme. Good quality theming. One of my favorites.

Thomas- I guess I was a little lost, especially when you opted to not include any emphasis on mythical creatures, but rather set it away from the fantastical sights. It was still a good ride, but came across as a bit more emphasis on the thrills, rather than storytelling.

Adam- Great sounding, and amazingly scary. A bit too scary for my tastes for a ride, but still great job. The whole thing with monsters arising from water freaks me out lol. One of my favorites.

Dan- I think you definately brought your game this week. The ride sounded awesome. I can imagine this ride with tons of fire, and just baking in there lol. I enjoyed the backstory. One of my favorites.

Eric- I realize that mermaids are a huge part with mythology, but it is hard to imagine them being anywhere in Disney without being related to Ariel. It was a nice ride chronicling the life of mermaids, however.

Tim, you are right, my ride is indeed channeling the spirit of the Jungle Cruise. In fact, that was part of the concept, that these are scuttled away Jungle Cruise boats and in fact is a bit of a send up of the concept.

Honestly as soon as I submitted my idea, I realized how ultimately ridiculous it was. Mermaids without Ariel would never happen at Disney. But I didn't have enough time to change it. But oh well, hopefully I'll have a chance to redeem myself.

Actually Tim, I didn't want to add the PErcy Jackson theme, but I did so because it actually is associated with Disney: Disney published all of the books, and this attraction had nothing to do with the medioce movie.

Anyway, I understand my place in the polls. I wanted to write more indepth stories for each of the three sections of my ride, but really just couldn't find the time.

I hope I didn't lose too many votes cause my ride was too scary! ;)

I really wanted to do an attraction that wasn't the cliche dragon or unicorn. Gotta say I was expecting to have a few more votes this time around, but maybe I'm just proud of my idea. ;)

No matter the vote I liked my ride and will be proud of it!

That's funny....I thought we were supposed to go for the cliche of the unicorn and the dragon....

I was agonizing over not making it sound like a Potter rip-off.
