Disneyland: More ups and downs than Space Mountain

My group (myself, wife, and in-laws) arrived in Anaheim around 10:00 AM. After checking in to the hotel, we hoofed it nearly a mile to the resort proper where we purchased our tickets (Military Three Day Park Hopper for the win) and started out in California Adventure.

Both me and the wife were hugely anticipating the Little Mermaid, and we reached the front of the line after a 20 minute wait. Right as we were to depart, the ride shut-down. We were given a pass to return once normal operations resumed.

Disappointed, but not upset, we headed past Goofy's Sky School (soft-opened but with a line) and over to California Screamin.' It was about this time that we realized how incredibly thick the crowds were. Half an hour later, we finally rode the coaster and curved around to see if Mermaid was back (it wasn't.)

We split up into pairs after It's Tough to Be a Bug. Me and the wife hit the Tower of Terror with a 25 minute wait before reuniting with the in-laws for our Fastpass of Soarin' Over California. We split again with me and the wife heading for Disneyland itself.

Disneyland has always been a dream for me, and walking down the original Main Street brought tears to my eyes. We headed for Adventureland and walked right onto the Jungle Cruise. We made a note to return to the Indiana Jones Adventure during Fantasmic and opted for Pirates of the Caribbean instead. Not wasting any time, we jumped over to the Haunted Mansion, then hit Fantasyland for Alice in Wonderland.

I cannot stress enough how long these lines were. Good lord, there wasn't a single line we didn't stand in for at least 20 minutes.

After Alice, we were hungry, so we hit the Tomorrowland Terrace for dinner. After eating, we let our food settle with a walk and a ride on Snow White. The wife was ready for her favorite (Splash Mountain) and we jumped into what promised to be a 45 minute wait.

90 minutes later, we reached the loading dock. I'll rant about why at the end.

That done, we jumped back to Adventureland for Indiana Jones, with another 45 minute wait.

15 minutes into our wait, Fantasmic started. We finally got into the Temple itself ten minutes after the Fireworks.

Very irritated now, we headed over to try Space Mountain, but it looked to be more of the same. So, with heavy hearts and burning anger, we headed back to the hotel at 11 PM.

Hmm, Disneyland wait time boards are usually accurate, its strange that they would be off by 45 minutes. Guess you'll explain that later. Crowds are heavy at the Disneyland Resort this time of the year. The Fast Pass system is wonderful and can really be beneficial on days of heavy attendance like this one.
