A new park at Universal by 2018?
Universal Orlando: Just read an article in the Orlando Business Journal about a possible 3rd park by 2018?
There is a rumor about a potential 3rd park, possibly by 2018. It is rumored that it will be Universal Orlando's next big project once current construction is completed. If this turns out to be true, what would be the best fit for a new park? A Lord of the rings park, or since they have a movie based studio park, maybe a themed park based on popular tv series, just my opinion. I base this on an article I read in the Orlando Business Journal.

Judging from the 2007 plans for Cabana Bay, it will reside right across from the Royal Pacific. There is plenty of room left between Adventure Way and Turkey Lake Road, but it would be cut off from the other two parks.
I could definitely see Universal building a park for youner children or even a water park in that location. Comcast NBC will have to hand out some more blank checks. I always thought there was more coming after Potter 2.0, time will tell.
Spirit at WDWMagic said this a few days ago. He said Universal will be building a water park, 3rd park, and be using every expansion pad there is (land between MIB and Simpsons, etc).
If it is a water Park, would Universal sell Wet and Wild? That way all three parks would be within walking distance and not a mile and a half away. Could they also make a path for the water taxis to reach it?
A water park makes since. They are really doing what Disney is not. It's called matinence and improvement. As long as Universal keeps on making what they have better people will continue to come. Especially locals and repeat visitors. In all honesty that makes up the biggest draw. I would love to see A Lord of The Rings Attraction or even land but can't fathom a whole park. With Universal creating sub lands at the Studio, and the production phased out. I could see a hit theme park once again.
Armando, WDW is doing fine in matinence and improvement. Sure, not as fast as UO, but have you seen the refurbed Splash Mountain?

Every WDW photo update has pics of scrims in front of buildings and attractions for maintenance purposes. It's a lot of ground to cover with all the parks, but for the most part it's a perpetual state of upkeep at WDW. It's the gate crasher attractions where they seem to be lagging behind Universal as of late.
Anyway, I'd love to see a 3rd park for UniOrlando, especially the way they've gone about aggressively building attractions the last few years. Even if it is a water park, it would be a huge plus to have it on site with the other 2 parks. Ideally, if they could get a 3rd park as well as a water park onsite, then UniOrlando would really be a great alternative to the week long WDW vacation. As of now, I still only see USF as really, REALLY nice 2 day diversion I bundle with visiting the Sea World parks.
Correct me if am wrong, but Wet & Wild is located on property rented from another company. A water park would be a great add. especially between the Royal Pacific and the new hotel. A theme park seems unlikely because of the distance from the parking garage.
There really isn't enough land for a theme park on Universal property.
So best option is purchasing the remaining land they used to own near the convention center.
But assuming a new theme park would probably cost 2 to 3 billion dollars.
It would make the most sense to buy Sea World, get Aquatica for their new water park with Discovery Cove for 4 billion or so...and you get the rest of their properties also
