Rest peacefully Marty Krofft - Television Legend / Theme Park Entrepreneur

November 26, 2023, 7:19 AM

It is sad to learn of the passing of television producer Marty Krofft. Along with his brother Sid, Marty produced a cavalcade of television shows that essentially ruled the Saturday morning airwaves. The Krofft brothers' portfolio included H.R. Pufnstuf, The Bugaloos, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, Land of the Lost, Wonderbug, Dr. Shrinker, Space Nuts and The Lost Saucer. They also produced some classic television variety shows. ABC News (11/26/23): "With a career spanning over 50 years, Krofft was best known for producing quality family entertainment, including, 'Pryor's Place' starring Richard Pryor, 'Donny and Marie' starring brother and sister pop duo Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond, 'The Bugaloos' and 'Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters'."

In addition to their forrays in television, the Kroft brothers took a swing at the themed entertainment industry. Opened on May 26, 1976, 'The World of Sid & Marty Krofft' featured live shows, shops and attractions -- including the legendary pinball-themed dark ride. Atlanta History Center: "One of the park’s most notable attractions was the human-sized pinball machine, where guests could climb into a larger-than-life pinball and slingshot around a 700-foot course while dodging quarters and other passenger-filled pinballs."

The indoor park closed after just six months of operation. Its memory looms large with themed entertainment leaders. Designer David Cobb collects memorabilia from the park -- often referring to it as his "white whale".

Rest peacefully, Marty Krofft.
