Knotts Berry Farm's Example

Knotts Berry Farm is one of my favourite Parks and appears to not get as much publicity as the big boys of Disney and Universal.
I was delighted to see recent YTube footage from there where they still have many roving characters playing out scenes from the Old West. They engage and interact with the visiting guests with largely improvised scripts and it's greatly entertaining.
It got me thinking about how Knotts have gone about things and how Disney might have done had they owned Knotts.
I'm guessing that Disney might have found some reason for dispensing with anything connected to the old days or cowboys. They would probably dispense with any hint of gun play or bad guys holding up the passengers on the train for fear of upsetting someone , somehwere , somehow. Then find some sanitised replacement that sugar coats history in some way lest they cause offence.
So perhaps Disney could learn one thing from Knotts , who have been around longer, about how to entertain and yet still let their guests decide what they find or don't find offensive.

What you're seeing are videos of Ghost Town Alive, which is an interactive immersive experience at Knott's Berry Farm that only runs during select times during the summer months. The experience features a number of staged/scripted performances mixed in with improvisational interactions between guests and actors as events play out in real time throughout Ghost Town. The experience is very much like what many expected from Star Wars Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland and DHS, but was severely lacking in guest interactivity and immersion unless you participated in the Galactic Starcruiser experience at WDW. Cedar Fair tried to replicate the Ghost Town Alive at Cedar Point, but it never caught on, probably because most guests to the Sandusky park are singularly focused on riding roller coasters and not wanting to "waste" time doing an interactive experience.

We experienced Ghost Town Alive back in the summer of 2019, and it was a lot of fun, but can be a bit of a time sink if you're an infrequent visitor to the park, which can prevent you from hitting all of the park's rides. However, for frequent visitors and season passholders, it can be a great way to spend a day at Knott's that is a unique, immersive, theatrical experience.
