Opinions VS Bias

When thinking about a Theme park company we sometimes get Opinions and Bias confused.

By definition:
Opinion: A subjective belief, perspective, or interpretation of facts. It is a conscious mental attitude that can be argued reasonably.

Bias: An irrational, often unconscious, preference or prejudice against or in favor of something. It is a distortion of facts, not just a viewpoint.

I favor Universal over Disney. But Disney has well themed parks, aesthetically pleasing and popular. I can admit Disney has some great attractions without Bias.

Let's look at Flight of Passage. Recently there were debates about this attraction on the main page. Some said it was boring, overrated? That was simply Bias and not Opinion. As I said I prefer Universal but can also admit Flight of Passage is an awesome attraction. You see both things can be true.

We as a people have to practice Opinion vs Bias but currently we suck at it. Most just use Bias and forget to think.

Example - Tom cruise is in that wacky Scientology stuff, but I have to put my religious views aside since he makes some great action movies. My Bias says one thing but my opinion is still he makes some great movies.

OK - That's fine and dandy, but let's also talk about "Opinion" versus "Fact", which is a line that is becoming more and more muddled by the day. When we have ridiculous "Futures Markets" (Kalshi, Polymarket, and the like) that are letting people wager on everything from elections, to war tactics, to the weather, even respected news sources cannot be relied upon to report the factual "truth". This is especially problematic when the business of the news is controlled by a shrinking group of rich people who can see their net worth rise and fall based on what appears in their publications, some of which they admit are not longer a "paper of record".

I agree Russel - Kalshi, Polymarket are basically gambling sites masked as prediction sites which are easily multiplicated by many.

I know Kalshi is not paying about $50 million in bets on if and when the Iran supreme leader would be killed...

And two days after those bets came in - We bombed Iran.. 100% insider info...

And many oil bets came in Hot as well predicting Oil will skyrocket.

Hey. . .
When I said that FOP was overrated, I meant it. Not because I want to put Disney down in favor of Universal. I will applaud Disney when they deserve to be applauded. I will not praise a four-minute flying theater with bad 3d and a worse preshow.

I'll give credit where credit is due, but just because I think that Dinosaur is better than FoP in almost every way doesn't mean I'm "biased". It just means that Disney has set such a high bar that a 3d screen attraction seems like such a waste after all that buildup. It reminds me of an old Universal ride more than anything.

VelocicoasterFan: "... just because I think that Dinosaur is better than FoP in almost every way doesn't mean I'm "biased".

Me: So the exterior and queue of 'Dinosaur' was "better" than the Joe Rohde designed Valley of Mo’ara façade (mountainous face, waterfalls, greenery) and interior queue (caverns with themed petroglyphs and the lab boasting the banshee tracking map and suspended Na'vi) of 'Flight of passage?

So Joe Rohde didn't design Dinosaur? I don't disagree that PtWoA is jaw dropping compared to Dinoland USA, but let's not say that Rohde wasn't at least partially responsible for the design aesthetic for Dinosaur. Velocicoasterfan is entitled to their opinion, but there are plenty of accounts and evidence to suggest that they are in a very small minority in claiming Dinosaur is a better attraction than FoP.

TH- it's a great thing I said "almost" every way, because the queue and exterior is the only leg up that FoP had over Dinosaur. But to me, I'm judging the ride based off the actual ride experience. And when the actual ride experience is a giant screen, I can't help but want dinosaur back.
