Disney World to Develop up to 575 Acres someday

October 15, 2015, 2:10 PM

Interesting news. "Disney is now petitioning to expand that request to destroy wetlands in the resort up to 575 acres."

"The majority of the newly requested acres for expansion will be in the Magic Kingdom area. This includes the park, resort hotels, as well as the wetlands and backstage areas surrounding it. The second largest planned expansion would come between Disney’s Hollywood Studios and ESPN WWOS where there is also a large area of undeveloped wetlands."

This may not happen in the near future, but perhaps later. This could lead to a 5th theme park and many more hotel resorts.

An additional footnote "Finally, the application also indicates that the Flamingo Crossings project near State Road 429 could expand by as much as 600 acres. That’s twice the size of the Disneyland Resort."

I know they have tons of land down in Florida, so why do they have to destroy the wetlands? Things live there!

They will not be destroying the wetlands permanently. What they will be doing is creating a new wetlands 2 to 1. Whenever wetlands are used a new set must be created at 2 to 1 so for every acre destroyed 2 acres must be created to replace it.The term destroy is not accurate.
