Im going to WDW next January and I've never been on ToT due to that pre show scene where you watch the movie because I get claustrophobic. Should I be okay there or is there a way to skip the pre show?

Ask one of the cast members to skip the pre show and they should let you, however I agree with mike that the ride itself could also make you claustrophobic.
I would be more concerned with the actual ride if you are claustrophobic in the preshow.

I have never noticed a way to miss the pre-show - however, i'd say that if you find the preshow claustrophobic, then you may find the actual ride equally so, as you are closely seated in a fairly small enclosed 'elevator'
