My Updated Great Movie Ride

Walt Disney World: if I could change the Great Movie Ride...

So I was bored and thought of an outlandish idea for a complete refreshing of the Great Movie ride...now this is a great ride, but most younger audiences only connect with a couple of the movies...I'd like to see every scene replaced by a contemporary movie, a Disney movie if possible

The current GMR has different genres represented: musical, gangster, western, sci fi, action-adventure, horror, animation, drama, and fantasy

In keeping with those genres, my new GMR would have:

High School Musical
Camp Rock
Enchanted
The Departed (the only non-Disney, cause Disney doesnt really make gangster films lol)
No Country For Old Men (Miramax)
Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
National Treasure
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Lion King
Remember the Titans
Chronicles of Narnia

Thoughts? Feel free to add your own ideas on movies youd like to see in a new GMR, fitting within the certain genres and the number of scenes (13)

Yours is a nice idea for a new and different movie ride but the existing one is the MGM movie ride.
I know that a lot of the movies are before the time of some of the younger visitors but it's all about the classics isn't it ?. Although I've never been quite sure why or how Alien got in there. Great movie, of course, but out of place here.
I think your idea is more suited to a new attraction rather than replacing the existing one.

Not bad......not bad at all, in fact one of the better lists that I have seen. I thought I was the only one to pick up on the themes they were going after. I just think its too clasic of a ride to really change the movies out that are already there since I still think they are pretty well known!

One thing though, the Gangster and Cowboy scene are not really reenacting any paticular movie so I think they could more or less stay and I am not sure what could really replace Alien since I can't think of a "scary movie" that could be appropriate for all ages to at least see (most of Alien is things jumping out).

The one thing I like about the list is Disney could in theory make it due to them owning a majority of the movies.

Here are a few other movies I would not mind seeing on the GMR:

Newsies
Star Wars
Gladiator
Armegedon (maybe replace Alien with that?)

Many of the movie montage films would work too!

I want it updated, I rode it 6 years ago when I was 10.

The problem with using contemporary hits as the basis for the Great Movie Ride is that, in ten to twenty years, those films might not stand the test of time. I feel, in five years, no one will remember or care for High School Musical like they do for Mary Poppins or Singin in the Rain. I also wouldn't use a cable movie like Camp Rock and stick to theatrical films. Nevertheless, the attraction could use an update.

Enchanted is a great choice to replace the opening Footlight Parade segment.

I would replace the next two with Chicago and Grease.

If you are going to switch out Public Enemy with a different gangster film, I would just get the granddaddy of them all and use The Godfather.

I miss the fire effect from the western section and can't think of a proper replacement for Eastwood or Wayne. I guess Dances with Wolves could work.

I love the Alien part but if you have to change it, The Sixth Sense was a very popular Disney horror film that isn't too graphic.

I am not a fan of redundancy in the parks. I feel any property should get one attraction and that is all. I would just remove Indiana Jones entirely and replace it with Narnia or Armageddon.

Tarzan is the most blatant scene that needs to be changed and I think Gladiator would fit in nicely.

Casablanca could be swapped out for Titanic.

Fantasia could be changed for any number of other Disney classics: Pinocchio, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, Nightmare before Christmas, etc.

The Wizard of Oz is a classic that everyone knows regardless of age. I don't see a need to change it...just modernize it.

i agree that this does need some updates, but as raul said, they may not stand the test of time like hsm or camp rock. i love the idea of titanic. i really think they need some of the greatest box office films of today to replace some of the older forgotten scenes. im in favor of dark knight going in the gangster area since it fits perfectly. grease would also be a great film to have in here. its a great ride and yes it is a bit stale, however changing every scene isn't the solution...

The Dark Knight would fit perfectly and would be great. However, I doubt Warner/Six Flags would give Disney the license for it. It sucks...business getting in the way of art.

They should replace the Tarzan scene with the chocolate room from the old Willy Wonka. Now that would be cool!

I like the idea of having Gene Wilder in the Chocolate Room... as long as they aren't singing the Oompah Loompah song (We already have the munchkins chorus on the Yellow Brick Road)

I would change every scene except for the Wizard of Oz room:
Footlight Parade replaced with The Chronicles of Narnia
Singing in the Rain replaced with Star Wars Episode III
Mary Poppins replaced with POTC: At World's End
Gangster scene replaced with Pearl Harbor
Western films replaced with Lord of the Rings
Alien replaced with Gone with the Wind
Raiders of the Lost Ark replaced with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Tarzan replaced with The Birds
Casablanca with Apollo 13
Fantasia with Titanic
Keep the Wizard of Oz and final screen room.

You guys don't seem to respect classic film that much, do ya? HSM, Narnia, and POTC all suck!

I thought that the whole point of the ride was to bring you back into the classic movies of the past?

I just passed out at the idea of a No Country For Old Men ride...and when I woke up and saw Nightmare Before Christmas, I passed out again.

the GMR is good as it is... although an expansion would be nice (and going back to the old uniforms the gray is ugly). Should the ABC Commissary, Sci-Fi Dine In, and the pathway between those buildings and the American Idol building be removed there would be enough room to nearly double the ride length. Or there is the option of going underground (im not sure if there are computers and such under the park like the MK) If you double the length and increase the speed of the vehicles a small amount you could keep the classics and add new scenes. but what would be bad would be to make the entire new section Disney Centered. The ride is about great movies not great Disney movies. Add maybe scenes from Narnia, Monsters Inc. Beauty and the Beast, and Finding Nemo. Then think about Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, and Titanic. Stuff like that. just an idea im throwing out there

We got to ride this last week. Was the first time in 15 years I had been on it. They showed some of my favorite movies but overall the ride was "blah". Part of it was the two CMs operating it were terrible. Bad jokes, no wit, poor accents, and just seemed unengaged.

I don't have a problem with the movies they have picked but the technology could use an update. Nothing moves in a way that seems fitting of today's technology. And the Alien didn't scare anyone, he just eased up a few inches. That area needed a lot more steam/fog too.
