Gotta be Love Rollercoaster by the Ohio Players.

Or Welcome To The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. That guy has some pipes!

Honestly, I think Take It Easy by the Eagles would be my #1 choice. Great driving song... should be perfect for a cruise on a smooth, shiny, new coaster.

Mr. Rao has some taste. I would also pick My Chemical Romance doing their version of Bob Dylan's 'Desolation Row' from 'The Watchmen.' But my other half would probably prefer the REO classic 'Riding the Storm Out.'

Well if the lines are long the I'd go for Tom Petty's " The Waiting "

But once I'm on the ride :

1. ZZ Top : " Tush"
2.Stevie Ray Vaughan : " The House is Rockin' "
3.Doobie Brothers : China Grove

Neil Young's version of Dylan's All Along the Watchtower.

well, picking one from each genre:

for Rock I would go with "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC
for Pop I would go with "S.O.S" by The Jonas Brothers
for Country I would go with "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy"
for Techno I would go with "Everytime we Touch" by Cascada
and for Rap I would go with "Heart of a Champion" by Nelly

From Ben James

Corey those are all great picks.

I would have to say "That's Just the Way We Roll" by the Jonas Brothers.

or

"Sex, Bass, and Rock N' Roll" by Brooklyn Bounce. Trust me the song is clean.

From Lars Raddishtop

Country: I do not know any country.

Pop: "S.O.S." by Jonas Brothers or "Oops... I Did it Again" by Britney Spears

Rap: "Hot in Here" by Nelly or "Its Like That" by Run-DMC

Rock: Either "Breaking the Law" by Judas Priest "Master of Puppets" by Metallica or "Rock & Roll All Nite" by KISS

Techno: "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" or "Around the World" by Daft Punk

'Magical Mystery Tour' by The Beatles
'You Shook Me All Night' Long by AC/DC
'Slow Ride' by Fogat

'All Along The Watchtower' by Jimi Hendrix
'Cocaine Blues' by Johnny Cash

Metal Health (Bang Your Head) by Quiet Riot
Crazy Train by Ozzy Ozbourne

and for a touch of irony

Don't Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult

I have also heard that movie themes will be on the coaster as well. If so, I wouldn't mind riding to the Superman theme or E.T. theme.

From Andy B

Some ideas...

ROCK: Paranoid-Black Sabbath
COUNTRY: Green Grass and high tides-The Outlaws (I realize it's much too long)
RAP: Lose Yourself-Eminem
ROCK: Won't Get Fooled Again-The Who
ROCK: Hearts Burst Into Fire-Bullet For My Valentine
TECHNO: Every Time We Touch-CASCADA
ROCK: Panama-Van Halen
TECHNO?: Time to Pretend-MGMT
ROCK: Hells Bells-AC/DC
RAP: Roll (Clean Version)-Flo Rida
TECHNO: Take a Bow-Muse

I think they should have playlists for each song, containing multiple songs of that specific genre, so the songs don't get repetitive.

We drove by Universal earlier today, and I was pretty surprised at how visible the coaster is (even from I-4). Can't wait to try it out, assuming it ever gets open...

July 3rd, that's when it will open (fingers crossed). Should be doing soft openings in June.

As of last Friday, May 15 the trains were not yet on the track. I asked a supervisor working there that day when I could expect to see Rip running. She told me late June, early July. Another employee there that afternoon confirmed this.

They are already testing the ride, but at night. July 3rd is the hoped for opening.

From David Eggert

Rock: Dead Disco - Metric
Pop: Phantom Limb - The Shins
Rap: Without Me - Eminem
Country: Ring of Fire - Johnny Cash
Techno: Destroy Everything You Touch - Ladytron

Okay, I cheated a little bit by using The Shins for pop, but come on, there's not a lot of quality out there :) As for rap, there's very few that I can stand to listen to, so my choices were kind of limited there as well...

Welcome to the Jungle or some other really hard core old rock song! LOL. Most of them seem to have a roller coaster-esc sound to them.

lol @ Brady

Hmm, I'm thinking lets go with artists (Used loosley in some cases) that have performed at Mardi Gras in Universal.

Rock - Pat Benatar

Rap (In the note of "C") - LL Cool J

Country - Trace Adkins

Pop - KC or Huey, or Natasha Bedingfield

Techno - ok, not sure sure they've had any there, but I'd go with Tiesto!

Isn't that what Hard Rock Park was suppose to be about? Music themed rides? Why does Univesal think they will be more successful than HRP? From my conversation with CEO Thomas Williams, he stated that the company was focusing on what they do best, movies and TV shows (this was a recent conversation in an effort to gain insight into the possiblilities for GameWorld - see my post).

Seems to me that if Universal has seen fit to include Rap, Country and Techno then you must, I say must, make room for Metal. Yes, Metal, what could be a better fit for this brand spanking new monster coaster? That leads us to the Metal Gods who say...

Priest, Judas Priest.

I give you:

Running Wild
Heading Out To The Highway
Living After Midnight

From steve lee

Terrence, Universal is a very successful park in the tourism capitol of the world with a 20 year history and reputation. Hard Rock Park was an upstart in Myrtle Beach that was tainted by poor (possibly criminal) management.

You're making an apples and oranges comparison. I understand the point that a music themed coaster in a movie themed park is odd, but it seemed to work out pretty well for the Rock 'n Roller Coaster.

From James Rao

A key component of movies is music, so it makes a lot of sense to combine the two: Rip, Ride, Rockit will feature an on-board sound system to provide your soundtrack as well as video cameras to record your experience. Universal is letting you make a movie about your ride. The music you play should be the soundtrack of your life...

...which is why most guys should choose Playmate of the Year by Zebrahead, even though they wanna choose Anyway You Want It by Journey. =)

From James Rao
Posted May 22, 2009 at 7:45 PM
I need to revise my picks...

I think I'd choose Rockin' The Paradise by Styx. Patriotic and bombastic!

Or maybe Bat Out Of Hell by Steinman/Meatloaf. Any song that would cause a guy to blow out his vocal cords is perfect for a rockin' roller coaster, right?

Rock Opera FTW, baby!

From James Rao
Posted May 22, 2009 at 7:46 PM
Josh, Don't Stop Me Now by Queen was a good choice I hadn't even considered. I Want It All would work too!

But where's the love for Blue Rodeo? Head Over Heels would make a great (alt) country song for a coaster ride.

From Anthony J

Love "Any Way You Want It" by Journey haha.

I'd want some Britney Spears for pop.. Maybe "Toxic".. Love the idea of Foo Fighters - "Learn to Fly"..

For dance.. I don't know.. I love a lot of songs.. "Satisfaction" by Benny Benassi for suuure..

Raul said a few days back that they were testing at night. I don't know how late at night they'd be running it, but I was too tired (and generally too wet) to drag myself out to Citiwalk to go looking.

If I HAD to choose one rock song, it would be "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen. Phenomenal roller coaster song.
