I've heard great things about the Mummy, but I absolutely HATE roller coasters. On a scale of 1-10, how bad are the roller coaster elements of the ride. I'm not worried about the special effects, just big drops and stuff. I know it goes backwards, so that doesn't help much...
The roller coaster is 30 ft. tall in reality and does not have big drops. The ride lasts fairly short, but it will try to make you think you are going through big drops.
Just take a look at the hollywood verson with the lights on. The part you would be concerned with (the in the dark drops part) is similar.
Its not a super coaster or anything. I love this ride but its because it is so well done. Intemidation factor is 6 or 7 at best. The track has mild drops and no gut dropping terror.
Is there that feeling where you feel like your stomach is getting knotted up?

Knotted? No. Elevator, yes. There is one drop that stays true in my memory more than any other and its a drop in pure darkness that makes my stomach feel like Im on an elevator but it lasts less than a second.
I will say though, I am a trill ride junky. I drive the free falls, the coasters, and will try ANYTHING once. Well--- not bungee jumping.
Hey Andy! I JUST got back from Florida (currently trying to survive my first day back at work!) and rode the Mummy on Friday last week. It was even better than I remembered and had more coaster elements than I thought. However, I agree that it's more in line with Indy or Dino.
For me, the coaster part felt more exhilorating due to the effects and build-up that preceded it - and as already mentioned, it's in the dark so the drops are enhanced, but it is in no way comparable to Rip Ride Rocket or the Hulk for example.
On the fear factor scale I would rate it a 6. Go for it!
The roller coaster seems more like just the way to move you from scene to scene which are the exciting and scary parts of the ride. The coaster, by itself, is kind of mild but it is quite exciting in conjunction with the scenes.

Andy, so I was just talking to my teacher about the expansions at disney. He lived in Orlando for quite some time and went to the parks often. I was telling him about Snow White closing and told him it was being replaced by the new coaster. He looked at me with a "seriously" face. Apparently he dislikes coasters. He says he can handle Space Mountain and other coasters similar.
Then I said so you can handle ones like Mummy which aren't too intense? He went wide eyes and said NO! He apparently did not like it at all. He thought it was a dark ride or a simulator.... so he wasn't prepared for a coaster... that didn't help much. He also felt that is was "very intense" even though it only goes 40MPH.
I hate to discourage anyone from riding a ride, but I just wanted to give you the heads up. Everyone is different and it may have just been that he wasn't ready for a coaster at that time. Who knows. You may or may not like it. If you are feeling brave that day give it a try... if not, at least queue for it with your friends/family-- it's a great atmosphere!
Terri, aaaaah. I've just lost some of my bravery :P I'm still not sure, there's good and bad for it. I'll just think about it

Sorrrrry! :( I would just feel horrible if I was like YEAHHH it's no big deal! and you wet your pants. Okay, not going to go that far but you know what I mean!
-most of the 'drops' are really just quick bunny-hops designed to get your gut a little; you'd barely notice them if the lights were on and you could see them.
-The darkness intensifies the sensation of speed and height, but in reality you are not moving any faster than on, say, Big Thunder across the street at WDW. Actually, the drops on BT are larger.
-There is one LIM launch which is a bit exciting, but the scene leading up to it basically prepares you for it.
I am sure you would enjoy it just fine, in fact I took my 64 y/o mother on it last summer and she enjoyed it immensely (some context: she REFUSES to ride Space Mountain ever since it terrified her in her 20s).
