Vote of the week: Readers' theme park designsBy Robert Niles
This week's vote requires you to do a little background reading. Last week, TPI reader Rob P submitted a discussion thread called Design Your Own Theme Park, I promised to put some of the more intriguing proposals up for a vote, so here we are.Published: June 13, 2008 at 8:15 PM The criteria were that the park include only existing theme park attractions and that people include a mix of rides and shows, not just all thrill coasters. And that the parks be organized into at least three themed lands. So, after said that, and having read the thread... Let's keep talking about our ideal theme parks, in the comments.

This was a tough one because I actually like them all! What I looked into was a great combo of the Orlando parks. The Ultimate WDW seemed great too, but I picked the "Everything Kingdom" or whatever its now being called.

I agree with Justin...I want to vote for all of them....in fact any of them would be nearly perfect. I would have also liked to have seen a few more of the Cedar Park and Six Flags fans put some parks together...maybe when we do the second annual contest??? And my all WDW park was just for grins...guess I wanted to show why WDW is such a popular destination once you break it all down. Lastly, I can't vote for a park without at least one coaster from Holiday World, after all, it was the nation's first theme park! So, I am leaning toward Don's park....it has all three wooden masterpieces from HW! From Mostly Anonymous on June 14, 2008 at 10:10 AM
Don Neal gets my vote just for his Haunted Forest. The rest of you don't have enough wooden coasters! From Joshua Counsil on June 14, 2008 at 11:19 AM
The Ultimate WDW is so ludicrously unfeasible that I have to vote for it. I really like the prospect of so many ace attractions in one park, except that I found the themes didn't tie-in as nicely as I had hoped. Great efforts, though, and definitely worthwhile. me, my friends, my family, agree that each of these are boring and we thank God that none of these are real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From James Rao on June 15, 2008 at 10:39 AM

I guess I should start looking at the discussions more often because I never even saw this. From Rob P on June 16, 2008 at 12:29 AM
I'd pay to visit all of these. Have to say I loved James's " Disney Hub " version ( good chuckle at that one ) but I don't think even he thought it might get the vote ahead of his other submission. Robert's was , as expected, very well thought out and constructed. A great Park in every sense of the word. I liked mine too ....obviously.But I didn't manage to get the mix I really wanted and allowed personal favourites to take precedent which was not the best idea. I also loved a lot of the names you guys came up with for the different "lands". Some of those bordered on genius. Not telling you who I voted for but it wasn't for me that's for certain. From Don Neal on June 16, 2008 at 5:57 AM
Thanks for running with this Robert. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed reading everyone's entries. Great job too guys! It was a tough vote. TO make the vote easier next time can we include rates, meal plans, season pass holder benefits, geographic location of the park, operating hours, and....ok, ok just kidding. :) From James Rao on June 16, 2008 at 7:59 PM
While I did not win the coveted NO PRIZE, I did manage to pull 49% of the vote between two parks which has to count for something. And you've gotta wonder about a contest when the guy who wins is the same guy who runs the website. Does "the fix is in" mean anything to you, Robert?! ;) Seriously, that was a lot of fun. Thanks for the contest and maybe next time we can make it into a much bigger event. From Justin Spisto on June 16, 2008 at 9:42 PM
Last place...sigh. Maybe I should add more Disney attractions since they are so popular. From Justin Spisto on June 16, 2008 at 9:42 PM

Yes.Thanks again Robert for going with this one. I'm sure that between us all we could maybe expand the format at some later date and make this even better. Good fun I thought. This article has been archived and is no longer accepting comments. |
