Hurricane Irene open threadWritten by Robert Niles
Hurricane Irene missed Florida, but it's closed several theme parks for the weekend, including Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Kings Dominion and Six Flags Great Adventure.Published: August 26, 2011 at 11:40 PM With luck, the storm will keep bearing east and its worst winds and storm surges will miss populated areas. Until then, though, East Coast readers, please feel free to comment with any eyewitness reports, or just to kill time while you're using the WiFi in whatever hotel room you've evacuated to. Out here in the west, we'll continue baking in the 100+ heat we're expecting again this weekend. Whatever happens, let's hope that the outcome is better than this example of a theme park that closed for an impending hurricane. Stay safe, everyone.

Thankfully we in FLorida dodged the hurricane, and I got to go to Universal yesterday, but it was really hot! Seriously though, I do feel bad for everyone up in NY, NJ, etc, and maybe soon six flags will be 5 Flags! XD From Rox P. on August 28, 2011 at 6:13 AM
We're on St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, so we saw Irene when she was new. She shut down everything here - but people were lovely. Folks that had power (generator or otherwise) and water made sure that neighbors and coworkers had access to freezers and showers. Light and scattered damage thank goodness. Thanks to Irene, I found three new leaks in my roof that I'll have to track down tomorrow and repair. Good bye Irene, I've had enough of you here in Pennsylvania, boy do I miss Florida. I just got my internet back about 15 munutes ago. Irene knocked it out in most of northeastern PA where I live, all the way up to Scranton, according to Verizon.
