Walt Disney World puts 'The Grey Stuff' on the menu at Be Our Guest

September 25, 2013, 11:04 AM · Now you don't have to beg to get The "Grey Stuff" at Walt Disney World's Be Our Guest restaurant anymore.

The Grey Stuff

Theme Park Foodie reported this morning that the Beauty and the Beast-inspired dessert now appears on the restaurant's dinner menu. The chocolate mousse-like dessert is now served in a larger portion and atop a chocolate pastry, for $4.29, according to the report.

To confirm, The "Grey Stuff" now appears on the online menu for Be Our Guest, listed on the Walt Disney World Resort website. No details are provided, but the dessert is listed as $3.99 there.

Until now, the dessert was available only at a server's discretion, inspiring Disney visitors to claim all sorts of birthdays, anniversaries or other special events to get their forks into the treat billed as "delicious" in the Academy Award-nominated song that provided the restaurant's name. Perhaps Disney does listen, after all. So who's ordering The "Grey Stuff" the next time you're there?

September 25, 2013 at 11:38 AM · We just ate there in late August. Luckily we were celebrating a birthday and anniversary so the waitress brought some out for us. I don't think she would have had we not been wearing our buttons. Knowing it was a special treat for special occasion only made that much better. And it was absolutely delicious! They should keep the grey stuff as a special item and not make it a regular menu item.
September 25, 2013 at 12:57 PM · The picture on the Theme Park Foodie website doesn't look like a cupcake to me. But the again, what's sold as "cupcakes" today exist in a completely different universe than the cupcakes I knew as a kid. So there's that.
September 25, 2013 at 3:22 PM · What's really amusing to me is that in the film, Maurice the candlabra is talking about duck liver pate when he's singing about the "grey stuff".

The part of the song where he says that and then takes a taste is where he puts his finger (or, rather candle) in a little h'ors deouvre that is a swirl of grey pate on a little round cracker.

Obviously, making that would not have been a big hit with park guests.

I like the idea of the grey stuff cupcake. So glad someone came to his or her senses and realized people wanted this from Be Our Guest as much as guests in Potter Land at Universal wanted Butterbeer.

You just can't have a Beauty & the Beast area without the "grey stuff". Really, it was foolish of them not to have this on the menu from the beginning.

I love Disney, but this is a good example to cite that they sometimes are out of touch with what their fans want. I also think that the people who selected the menu and designed the restaurant must not have been big fans of the Beauty & the Beast movie...or they would have known that the "grey stuff" would be a big reason why a lot of people would be wanting to eat there.

It is honestly all my kids talk about when they hear anything about this restaurant.

September 25, 2013 at 5:22 PM · Now all we need is for them to add Soup du jour, Hot hors d'oeuvres, Beef ragout, veal (cut out lyric that didn't make it to the final version of the song), Cheese soufflĂ©, and Pie and pudding "en flambe" then we got all the food items mentioned in the song covered. The nice thing about this restaurant is the menu is pretty flexible by adding/subtracting new meals periodically based on guest demand. I just wish they would improve on the desert menu cause it's pretty weak at the moment with only cupcakes and cream puffs to offer.
September 26, 2013 at 8:09 AM · You know what? A commenter above noted that there are lots of food items mentioned in that Be Our Guest song.

Honestly, that would be a pretty great menu. It seems like a no brainer to have them all on the menu. I can't think of why they didn't do this, besides maybe a focus group deciding they didn't know what "beef ragout" was or the focus group not liking "cheese souffle".

There's not a full menu of stuff in that song, but they could have had a little three-course prix-fixe menu featuring the seven or so things from the song.

It's a missed opportunity for Disney.

October 1, 2013 at 3:35 AM · just got back home and catching up . we (my husband and I) were at Be Our Guest on sunday evening and found the grey stuff on the menu. It was served on a base very similar to a brownie, rectangular with 3 swirls of grey stuff. He does agree that it was delicious!
