Epcot's Innoventions West to Close
Hearing from multiple sources in Orlando this morning that Walt Disney World will be closing all of the exhibits in Innoventions West at Epcot this summer. No word yet on the replacement, or a specific closing date.
Innoventions West includes:
- The Great Piggy Bank Adventure - An interactive adventure about the ups and downs of saving and investing.
- Think - Play in front of the "Gesture Wall" and watch a film about how technology and progress drive each other.
- Where's the Fire? - Explore the most dangerous house in America and learn about fire safety.
- Disney character Meet and Greets
Update: The Orlando Sentinel got Disney to talk, which confirmed a May closure.

There's been much more empty spaces in Innoventions than there have exhibits/things to do, so this seems like an act of mercy.
I guess they cant use Marvel in Florida, so that may be ruled out :(
Mmmmmm.... So where in the heck did this come from. Is Disney World finally hearing our complaining and is just going to redo everything? Lol this is very interesting. I guess Disney World just wants everyone at Disney Springs for the summer. Not much room at the theme parks anymore.
Doubt it is anything substantial, we'll wait and see.
Move Carousel of Progress there. Kind of a weird symmetry.
Poor Epcot. The idea, or should I say the execution, is failing. I miss EPCOT Center!
It would be cool if they did the expo from big hero 6 when hiro showed off the nano bots but have companies show off other stuff in theme with the future.
Never understood the allure of Innovations. We never spend any time in either of them. No loss here, in my opinion.
Im not sure if it would fit but I would love to see the tron coaster come to epcot, along with a computer science pavilion since Epcots theme demands a link to reality.
I know they already gave a tron look to test trak but the rides would be different enough I think.
I just want to say that I really hate autocorrect on iOS devices, which keeps wanting to change Innoventions to Innovations whenever I try to edit this post. Grrrr....
Good thing Innoventions West isn't the one with Sum Of All Thrills. Most underrated ride ever! For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, Sum Of All Thrills is a motion simulator where you create your own virtual roller coaster and ride it for yourself. Admitedelly, I haven't ridden it in a couple years...so I don't actually know for sure if it's gone...but if it is, check it out next time you're in Epcot!
Changing subject, I have 2 hopes of what they're replacing the attractions at Innoventions West with, but they're both unrealistic. The 1st one is making it into Stark Industries, featuring the Iron Man Experience, so that my vision of Marvel at Epcot is finally realized; but we all know why that's not gonna happen. Or they could bring back the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, since everyone seems to miss that attraction so much; but unless the alien happens to have a degree in physics, that's just not gonna do for Epcot.
Part of me wants to get excited about something new, but I expect they're probably going to leave it closed for a while with no announcement. They just don't seem that thrilled to do much at EPCOT (beyond the Soarin' expansion).
Just get some sponsorships with video game companies and do like they did back in the day. A huge show hall with the latest video game technology. Guaranteed that place is never empty.
To me west side is the only side with stuff...im sure they will change the other side at some point as well. More tron!!!
I would be surprised if the Character Spot closed. There are basically two buildings there, with a covered walkway in between (Disney's map doesn't even show the cover; it looks like two buildings). All the Innoventions West attractions are in the part of the building closest to the front of the park, with Character Spot, the Coke attraction, and Starbucks Fountain View in the back.
While I loved the Think movie from IBM, it was simply a film and the area felt like a ghost town when I was last inside (fall 2013) Innoventions West. My guess is that the attractions in the building closest to World Showcase remain open, with the front shuttering. Disney seems to be giving up on the Innoventions idea on both coasts. Time will tell...
I guess this will be another dead space like the life pavilion...
Innoventions West does not include the Character Spot, Coca Cola Cool Spot of Starbuck's. The Character meet and greet in Innoventions West is the one for Chase credit card holders.
Dear Internet,
Please stop suggesting franchises to cram into Epcot. That never works.
I consider this to be much like the closing of the backlot tour in Hollywood Studio's. A wasted space which was little used by park goers which will hopefully be repurposed for something much better. In all my time going there I have toured Innoventions once which was once more than I needed to go. Nothing of interest there and the cutting edge technology ends up being old and not replaced with newer cutting edge technology so it becomes old. Hopefully they put an attraction in there which will get guests excited.
Soarin new building is behind the existing building. Innoventions is the inner ring. The pavilions is the outer ring. They are not in the same location.
I wonder what the future is. Epcot needs attractions. There is too much filler. Too much wasted space. Innoventions is a dead concept. There's enough indoor space for a few dark rides. Maybe an indoor Tron coaster.
One possibility is that this is where that "mystery attraction" that Jerry Rees is a part of will go... http://www.jerryrees.com/page19/page19.html
Or it is just a restaurant.
Make way for the newest DVC timeshare themed to the future as imagined in 1980. Hopefully it's an tron themed indoor bar and dance club Drunkcot is the new PI
Is it possible that they are building the same attraction in The West building and at Disneyland? I know people think they are putting an anniversary thing in at Disneyland, but they haven't officially announced that yet, right? Maybe a big Star Wars promotion? I would imagine they'd do something really big for that.
Actually, word on the street is Hollywood studios is getting a revamp with starwars being a big theme and innoventions east is supposedly having their sum of all thrills extended where they can take in more guests. I wonder what all will actually happen!
Maybe they could be planning to make this a 'convention/meeting' center the way the Life Pavilion currently is. That would free up the Life Pavilion for an expansion or a totally new attraction. Just my two cents.

Ok, not sure how much of an impact this really could have on Epcot. Does anyone know if the area is big enough to expand or fit a ride in as is?
