Tuesday round-up: A theme park themed to... theme parks?

July 5, 2016, 9:12 PM · Here is tonight's round-up of themed entertainment news:

U.S. military veterans can get free admission to SeaWorld San Diego now through Sept. 5. Veterans must register online at wavesofhonor.com to get their free ticket, plus tickets for up to three additional guests. The tickets may be used anytime before Dec. 25, 2016. If you don't live in or won't be visiting Southern California, veterans can access discounted tickets to other SeaWorld/Busch Gardens parks through wavesofhonors.com, too. The veterans' discounts are available online only.

Did Universal Studios Hollywood's new The Walking Dead attraction whet your appetite for some more theme park horror, right now? You don't have to wait for Halloween season to enjoy the thrill of being scared. The Midsummer Scream Halloween Festival is coming to the Long Beach Convention Center July 30-31 and will feature panel presentations on Halloween Horror Nights, Knott's Scary Farm, and Six Flags Fright Fest, in addition to presentations on "American Horror Story: Hotel," the Winchester Mystery House, and Jim Henson's Creature Shop, as well as a show floor with multiple haunt experiences. The full schedule and tickets are available at midsummerscream.org.

Dubai Parks and Resort won't open its first phase of theme parks until October, but it's already started work on phase two. The resort just announced that it has started construction on Six Flags Dubai. The park is scheduled to open in late 2019 and will feature six roller coasters among its 27 attractions. But the most interesting thing about the first Six Flags park in the Middle East might be the names of its six themed lands: Thrillseeker Plaza, Magic Mountain, Fiesta Texas, Great Escape, Great Adventure, and Great America. That's right. Five of the park's lands will be themed to other Six Flags theme parks.

In addition to the Dubai park, construction recently started on a Six Flags park in China.

July 6, 2016 at 10:44 AM · A theme park dedicated to theme parks. I guess it was just a matter of time.
July 6, 2016 at 3:32 PM · Anyone who's ever been to Great America knows that their theming is spotty at best. Somehow, I worry there will be a lot lost in translation.
