The ultimate Disney dream match-up? 'Frozen' and a dessert party

June 15, 2017, 10:28 AM · There seems to be nothing that has warmed the heart of Walt Disney World managers more over the past couple years than Frozen... and dessert parties. So perhaps it was inevitable that Disney would find a way to bring the two together.

Today, Disney announced that it has opened reservations for its new Frozen Ever After Dessert Party at Epcot. For $79 per person ($47 for kids, ages 3-9), you get a reserved viewing areas for the IllumiNations show, a dessert buffet (including alcohol for guests 21 and over)... and an after-hours, minimal wait on the popular Frozen Ever After ride.

Disney seems to be expecting that ride opportunity to be the big draw for this event, which might be why Disney has priced it $18-30 higher than the "regular" IllumiNations Sparkling Dessert Party. Both events offer reserved viewing areas for Epcot's nightly World Showcase lagoon show, but the line-up of desserts offer will differ between the two.

The original party's desserts reflect a "World Showcase" theme of international sweets, while the new event themes its sweets to various Frozen characters, including:

Okay, that last one made me laugh.

This is Disney's eighth dessert party currently offered at the Walt Disney World Resort, following original IllumiNations party, the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Tiana's Riverboat Party for the Magic Kingdom's Festival of Fantasy parade, and four different parties for the Magic Kingdom fireworks: the Fireworks Dessert Party at Tomorrowland Terrace, the Pirates & Pals Fireworks Voyage and Ferrytale Fireworks on the Seven Seas Lagoon, and the Celebration at the Top at the Contemporary Resort. But this is the only one currently to offer a ride opportunity in addition to the desserts and the show viewing.

June 16, 2017 at 11:13 AM · to be fair, you can't critique WDW for "hand scooped" ice cream. That's the marketing tag for pretty much every ice cream outlet around.
