hi newbie here,

I was wondering if anybody knows the cost of development & construction of the Spiderman ride at Islands of adventure please?

I know the Mummy ride cost $40 million (another brill ride)

The numbers associated with Spiderman that I've seen have been 200 million dollars. Thats 5 times as much as the cost to build Hulk or Mummy. Kinda amazing, but not that surprised, given the technology used for the ride. IOA itself cost a billion dollars flat, and having one ride itself be 1/5'th the price of the entire park seems pretty crazy. They made it happen, though, but will there ever be another 200 million dollar ride in the near future? I'm inclined to think that will not be the case, given that the new coasters nowadays typically max out at 30 to 40 million.

Spiderman was considered a huge success, correct? Successfly enough to possibly build another copy of that ride at say USH?

Other than spiderman, I meant.

Spiderman HUGE success. They do have another one in USJ. Whether or not they invest that much money into USH, ehhhh..I dont see it happening.

The number that I've always seen for Spiderman is $100 million, not $200 million.

quite a few different ammounts but all big sums neverless.

With the sort of money do you ever think a Uk based theme park will get a similar ride?

or are the rumours of the Simpsons ride at Universal that its going to be similar in idea to the Spiderman ride?

I heard it cost in the $100 million to $200 million range.

An interesting difference in the USJ version of the ride is the fact that you can purchase the ride photo from the portion at the end of the ride when Spider-Man takes your picture.

^Yeah, how did IOA miss that one? It's their friggin' signature ride, and there's no photo booth?

Pete,

when googling the topic, I have also seen 100 million primarily used as the figures for Spiderman, so I'm a bit confused myself.. 100 million does sound more likely than 200 million..

Does the 100 million mark still make it the most expensive ride ever created ? If so, what comes in second ? I have Hulk and Mummy both topping out at 40 million, but am wondering if there are other rides out there that go beyond 50 million or if there s a list out there (cannot find any such list)?

Expedition Everest...if memory serves me, cost just under 200 mil. And to answer the question....You used to be able to take your picture on Spiderman, they just took it out.

Daniel, there was a thread here within the past few months that discussed the most expensive attractions ever, but I can't seem to find it. I do remember that MIB and Test Track were also in the $90+ million range.

think we gathered it cost a lot but do you know the correct amount?

Walker, you just too funny, boy!

Err... I may be wrong, but wasn't that $2 billion that everyone keeps quoting with shock and awe for the entire UO expansion? ie, the hotels, CityWalk and IoA. Kinda like Disneyland's $1 billion for CA and Downtwon Disney stuff.

$100-200 million sounds about right to me, though.

I thought when they built Expedition Everst it was the most expensive ride ever built?

If it's just under 200 mil, then yes. Great buy on Disneys part, worth every penny.

Sorry, don't know the exact cost, though I think Ben is pretty much right.

According to Forbes.com, Spiderman and Everest cost the same...$100 million. Spidermans main issue was the need to develop the software that could do all of the cool things that it does. That alone cost over 15 million. With the development of that, the clones wont cost nearly as much to make, unless of course they change it. Even still they estimate making similar attractions at costing about 30-65 million.
Everest is said to have cost around 100 million, according to forbes, but I think that number is a tad conservative.

Other expensive rides:
Juarassic Park- 110 million
Mission:space- 120 million
Indiana Jones adventure- 90-120 million
test track- 70 million
Twilight zone tower of terror- 100+ million
Expedition everest- 120+ million

I've also heard the Spider-Man cost was around the 100 million range instead of the 200 million range.

Indiana Jones: 120 mil sounds accurate, that ride is incredible and has tones of stuff. It sounds realistic.

Was Indy Jones at DL the most expensive ride at the time it was built? It seems as though it would be.
