okay - i know this subject was archived, but a friend of mine told me today that Disney is going to announce on Superbowl Sunday that they are building a new theme park in Frisco, Texas - anyone else hear this rumor?

THANKS!

Why would they build one in TX?

Personally, I think that is way too close to Disneyland or Disney World. If they want to build another one, it probably should be in the center of the US though I highly doubt that would be.

So I think its just a rumor. Maybe they are building a Disneyquest even though thats appearing to go too

Disney in Texas??? Highly doubt it. I seriously doubt that there will ever be a new resort built in the US. Secrets in the theme park business don't stay secrets for long. If Disney really was announcing this on Superbowl Sunday, you would have heard much more about it by now.

Why??? Keep Disney out of Texas! Keep America's Disney parks in Cali and Florida ONLY!!! That's what makes Disney so special...it's a one of a kind place, people from all across the world travel thousands of miles to visit and fully experience WDW in Florida, It would kind of take the magic out of it if Disney turned in to the McDonalds or Wal-Mart of theme parks (like Six Flags)...

From Karin S

Chris - I can't agree with you more!! Disney has done enough to dilute its own product by building themeparks in other parts of the world. The CA and FL locations are enough in the U.S. As you said, people travel from all over the world to visit DL & WDW because they are special. Some people plan and save for years to come to these parks because they are so unique. To build more would cheapen the franchise even further.

From Erik Yates

Weather and tourism. I bet the location makes sense from that standpoint. Why build in the middle of the country when you'd have to keep it closed half the year?

From Jaivion Williams
Posted January 31, 2007 at 2:37 PM
NO I hope they don't do that, what are they thinking. What if tornado came throught there. They should just make another in florida or in austallia.Even thought texas people would it .Sometime after it opens there would be a disney vs six flags thread.

From Erik Yates
Posted January 31, 2007 at 2:52 PM
What about the Hurricanes in Florida? The Earthquakes in California? The baby eating dingoes in Australia?
Texas would make sense for disney....honestly. Does there need to be another resort? No...unless they are going to make it completely and totally different then the ones they have in Fla and Cali. No space, thunder, splash or big rock candy mountains. No tower or terror. No Test Track. ALL NEW...YA HEAR ME IMAGINEERS?
That would make the Texas park worth going to....but if you're just going to clone everything, then its pointless.

From David Kirby
Posted January 31, 2007 at 5:13 PM
The thing is though when people go to Disney, they want and expect Space, Thunder, and Splash Mountain, the Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, it's a small world, and etc.
I personally don't think a non Magic Kingdom style park would work on its own.

"you guys have no lives"
Said from someone who spends time on a theme park website himself......
Yeah, a non MK park on its own will most likely tank, because of the sterotype that people throw to disney. Maybe wrong word...but you get what I mean. But, will a MK style park succeed in Texas with two in pretty close proximity? I think thats the reason why the two are so popular...theres nothing else like them in this country...except each other.

From Jaivion Williams
Posted February 3, 2007 at 12:31 PM
Well splash and thunder will go good, but in fl there bulding can withstand a hurrricane, not a tornado even though texas people would love a disney park, but they should think of a different name.

From David Kirby
Posted February 3, 2007 at 5:20 PM
The "Texas has tornadoes" argument really doesn't make any sense since Texas already has several incredibly successful amusement parks. If Disney really wanted to build a park in Texas, I seriously doubt tornadoes would deter them. Just look at their other parks: California has earthquakes, Florida has hurricanes, Japan also has earthquakes, and Paris isn't very warm, and yet there are thriving Disney resorts in all of these locations.

So apparently his is an old topic, but just this weekend someone asked me about Disney coming to Frisco, Texas. I personally think it would be an excellent idea. Some of us who have lived here forever are tired and frustrated with Six Flags...poor service, it is always dirty, terrible crowds,etc...Disney always seems to get it right! (Only my OPINION, of course)Anyone know anything FACTUAL about the possibility of us getting a DW, or is all of it out there only speculation? THANKS!

From Jaivion Williams
Posted February 20, 2007 at 3:04 PM
yea we didn't here any rumors about it during the super bowl or they arent rady to announce it but they it would be called disney frontier.Plus that would get you ppl from always going to six flags and seaworld.

From Chris Walton

Booooo!!! Horrible idea, read everything above! It won't happen!

From Amy Jackson

For those of us who have kids, it would be a GREAT idea for it to come to Texas. Our weather here isn't any worse than Florida, so that isn't really a factor, and it would create a ton of new jobs, so that is good. Even if it is a "watered down" version of WDW or DLand, it will still beat Sea World and 6 Flags by a long shot!

From Karin S

The Wall Street Journal recently had an article about Disney looking to expand by building stand alone resorts, hotels, etc. in established tourist areas as well as building smaller parks. I didn't read about any specific locations, though Asia was mentioned. The theory is that not all locations can support a full-blown themepark, but smaller parks would be great "stand-ins" until people can get to the larger parks.

From Anthony Murphy
Posted February 21, 2007 at 9:22 PM
Yeah, that seems more plausable.

They already have their own resorts in Hilton Head and Vero Beach. Both are supposed to be quite good.

Texas?

Why not make a Ranch resort? It will harken back to the Old Disney Days with Spin and Marty!

From Chris Walton

No more PARKS in the states, it'll take away from the "magic"!

From Karin S
Posted February 22, 2007 at 5:09 AM
I agree with the "No more parks" sentiment, but again, citing the WSJ article, these parks will be single themed (one idea is a Pirate park) so you won't be able to get the full "magical" Disney experience. You'd still have to visit the larger parks for that. Hey, it's a way for them to reach more people, make tons of money, and hopefully, these tourists will eventually visit the existing resorts. Can't blame them...but who needs it?

From Anthony Murphy
Posted February 22, 2007 at 7:19 AM
You do realize that my idea above was not a theme park. There is a difference between Theme Park and Resort even though Disney likes to throw the names around like they mean the same thing!

I would like to see Disney open up another Vero Beach or something like that, but have it Ranch themed with horseback riding and all of that stuff!

I don't think that will take away from anything!

From Chris Walton

Anthony, I'm a native Floridian, I know the difference between a theme park and a resort...you should know me better than that by now! j/k LoL...that's why I put "PARKS" in caps...

I was refering to the posts of Amy and Karen and the concept of "mini-parks", I think the idea is absurd, I mean, themed resorts is one thing (I even mentioned an idea of themed Universal and Disney Vegas resorts on one thread), but mini MKs is something that the world does not need!

From Anthony Murphy
Posted February 23, 2007 at 6:39 AM
Oh, for sure!

We do not want Disney to turn into the next Six Flags.

Disney in Vegas? Now that would seem like a tough sell since the only gambling on their cruise line is Bingo.

I couldn't tell who you were talking to! Anyway, I would imagine it being like Fort Wilderness since they used to and currently have all those events!

From Chris Walton

Well, Vegas is turning into one of the major FAMILY vacation destinations in the U.S., Disney could perhaps help make Vegas a little more family friendly. But Universal should definitely build a Vegas resort...

The Disney Co. Has purchased property in the North Frisco area. They also purchased property in the New Braunfels area ten years ago. Plans are to build a Texas Themed resort with a park in both locations. The New Braunfels resort will try to pull of of the local waterpark and also the parks in the San Antonio area. The Frisco area Resort will be larger then the failing Six Flags set up. It will also have a very large Hotel and two smaller ones. The biggest sign will be the extended Hotels around Frisco. You will see that they are building very quickly. The new park is to have a large open air theater to go along with rock concerts and ABC television productions. Stay tuned for more info as it comes....

If the Disney-owned Wiggles chose to open the first and only Wiggly Play Center in Frisco, you can be that they have big projections for the positive growth of this area.

This is the only one of these in the USA. They didn't choose Frisco, TX by accident.

I know that is a miniscule thing compared to a Disney theme park or something on that scale, but it is evidence that the Disney company likes this area.

I don't know if they own any of the land around here though. Why would they be so secretive about it? It's not like the NFL Draft where you have to hide who you want to select.

From steve lee

Do some research on how they bought the land for WDW. The draft has got NOTHING on the Mouse when they want to keep something on the downlow (this statement does not mean, incidentally, that I buy into this).

Firstly, do yall know ANYTHING about Texas?! To like the second person... TEXAS IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE US!!! Look at a map! Also I know other ppl have corrected it but the weather in center or south Texas does not include tornadoes, or any weather worse than FL or CA except maybe humidity! Also I don't think that 2-8 year old kids will think that actually having an opportunity to experience a Disney park once in their life cause it's closer will make it any less "magical"! All I know is that I've lived in San Antonio for like 12 years and it has seemed to me that Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Sea World San Antonio have been successful enough in providing "magic" for kids and families even without the Disney charm. But onto my actual input to the rumor... My mom is a Real Estate Agent here in S.A. and they have records that they all can see who owns what land and she saw that Disney HAS actually purchased land here and after researching further... they purchased land outside of Dallas and somewhere around Houston. I really hope they go through with their purchase!
