Is It Insane For Orlando To Be Looking at 2021?

Walt Disney World: 2021 is the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World

In an economy with an uncertain future, would it be wise to look BEYOND the horizon? Since Chicago has its sights set on the Summer Olympics in 2016, should Orlando start to focus on Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary in 2021? And Robert, should we start to plan the ULTIMATE TPI WDW 50 party in Orlando?

Quite honestly, they should be looking at the next year or two. Even though it's Disney, it's a bit arrogant and foolhearted to invest in grandiose plans for over 10 years down the road, especially in the times we live in.

I am in too TH!

Still, its going to be a super big deal when that happens. I still remember Magic Kingdom's 25th! Now if they will only do EPCOT at 25....

Oh and Chicago 2016! I gotta root for my hometown!

What I think is going to be insane about 2021 is what Universal Orlando, Sea World Orlando, and Busch Gardens Africa are going to do!

I thought the world was going to end in 2012 when the Mayan calendar runs out? Man, if that is not the case, my retirement plans are woefully inadequate!

It is a bit silly

Disney releases about 8 movies per year (6 live action, 1 Pixar, and 1 Disney Animation)..and since the 50th anniversary is 13 and a half years away, we can assume there will be about 108 Disney films released between now and October 2021...thats a whole lot of movies folks....and thus a boundless array of new ideas that can be incorporated into new rides and attractions for the anniversary celebration...and on top of Night Kingdom, there may be another official 5th gate by then....or maybe the 5th gate WILL be the big surprise for the anniversary,..who knows??

lets worry about getting the much anticipated Monster Inc Coaster under construction for 2011 at DHS first

Where would you like to be on the morning of October 1, 2021?

Standing at the base of the Tree of Life listening to celebratory music and colorful performers?

Gazing at the enormous wizard hat at the end of Hollywood Boulevard surrounded by guest celebrities and Disney legends?

With family and friends near the fountain at EPCOT’s Communicore?

At the end of Main Street USA, looking up at the highest spires of Cinderella’s Castle?

Or will you be entering the fifth, newest Disney park ready to experience the company’s latest state-of-the art attractions.

Would you be there with a large group of people or a handful of close friends and family? Will you be staying at the Polynesian Resort, Pop Century, or a new Walt Disney World Hotel?

Certainly the Walt Disney Company wants to keep an eye on the horizon, and the 50th anniversary has to be an important part of its long term plans. Clearly it’s NOT too early for the company to begin considering what the 50th anniversary celebration.

And yes, they should be thinking of the next gate at WDW. And their goal should be to have it up and running by 2021.

And each of the existing parks should have new attractions as well. How about a couple of new countries at EPCOT or a new coaster or dark ride at DHS?

No time to waste! Only 4,606 days left!

Note to Facebookers – I have started a group “Walt Disney World 2021 - The Ultimate Party.”

Come and join the celebration!

I agree they should start planning a true 5th gate and have that be the big promotion for the 50th anniversary...but to comprehend where the economy will be and what the state of the Disney corporation will be like 13+ years from now is near impossible...for all we know global warming could help contribute to a catastrophic hurricane that wipes out almost all of Florida's infastructure....god forbid...but you never know

Again, if Disney World wants to be on the map in 2021 as much as they are now, they need to get back to their old selves, churning out at least one new big ride per year, especially to compete with Universal's upcoming attractions

To be more realistic, WDW should be looking forward to the 40th anniversary in 2011, only 2 years away...open up the Monsters Inc Coaster at DHS...Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast dark rides for MK, as well as a new parade and fireworks and castle show, a new theme for the reopening of Wonders of Life (Meet the Robinsons or WALL-E) and a new Illuminations for Epcot, and Beastly Kingdom for AK...of course, the economy needs to shape up for Disney to have the capital to accomplish all that...but that would be an amazing 40th IMO

If I'm alive and still on this site, damn right I'll be there in 2021.

Race ya to Space Mountain. I'm sure it'll be a good laugh in 12 years.

I think it's something for Disney to keep in mind. As far as planning goes, mabye a fifth theme park at Walt Disney World will be opening as part of this event!

Shoot, I will be getting close to turning 42 when the 50th happens. My husband will be 49. Knowing our luck we will have heart conditions that won't allow us to ride all the new exciting rides. Oh well. I guess I'll be hanging out in fantasy land waiting in a 120 minute line for Peter Pan's Flight :-)

Is it not AMAZING that the one attraction that has THE consistently longest wait time in the MK is Peter Pan?

Gotta say it would not take much dough to revamp the ride (property) and turn it into a gate crasher. Especially when one considers the almost THERMONUCLEAR popularity of Tink.
