What's Going on at BGT?Busch Gardens Tampa: Some mysterious new survey markers have been popping up in the Edge of Africa section of the park. Any ideas?
From Andrew HoldenSo recently, some survey markers have been popping up around the edge of africa at Busch Gardens Tampa. Rumors vary from a new pathway to improve congestion problems all the way to a brand new roller coaster. Does anyone have any ideas what this might mean? Busch gardens hasn't really had any expansion aimed torward their main audience, the coaster junkies. In my opinion, I think the park is good and ready for some white knuckle expansion, but I think that it is just a path.

From Tony DudaI walked through the Edge of Africa on my Feb. 4 trip and didn't notice them but I really wasn't looking for things like that. I checked Google Earth to see the EOA area and it doesn't look like a good place for a new coaster. But that area used to have a monorail going from the sky ride building into the savanna and it would be really great if they bring that back.

From Nick MarkhamAccording To Screamscape, sources say it will be a new large launch coaster very similar to Stormrunner at HErsheypark, but of course, being that detailed usually leads one in the wrong direction...

From David GrahamLike Nick stated it's rumored to be a new coaster for th 2011 year. On what is being said "rumored" so far, it will use the old loading area where the monorail was. It is suppose to go all the way back to the wet area on Rhino, and out into the parking lot, so sounds hugh. Also rumored is they might get rid of the wet part on the Rhino Rally and use that area for the coaster, again everything is only rumored for now. Last bit rumored, it will not be a B&M but maybe a Intamin, due to launch system, only time will tell.

From Tony DudaWow, that is some coaster. It sounds a lot like the new RRR at Universal Studios Orlando in its length and shape. I'll be sure to look at that area better next time I'm there.

From Andrew HoldenThat would be awesome! I was afraid that something new would pale in comparison to the opening of Sheikra, but BGT needs something new and big. I think if the launch coaster idea is true, it will be just what the doctor ordered. Any ideas on theming?

From Adam NodjomianA lauch coaster could go great with a cheetah theme. Plus, the open savannah could add to the effect.

From Andrew HoldenWell, BGT has pulled a permit. At the moment, it is for an interactive animal exhibit with seven freestanding structures. Hopefully this will evolve into something a little more exciting. Or maybe...this is a cover up. Maybe it will be like Manta, a unique animal experience that just happens to include a roller coaster. Maybe they have filed it only as an animal exhibit and no more to keep fans in the dark. We will see....

From David GrahamCould the animal permits be for something with Sesame Street area? A petting zoo or something in the there, it is called Safari of fun...

From Tony DudaWhile at BGT today, I took 3 skyrides to look over the rumored coaster location. There were survey stakes going under the skyride at the Egypt end and then going up the east side of the ride bending a little more eastward and into the water area of Rhino Rally. They looked like they marked out a road with some wider areas but the stake on the other side of the water, behind the ledge waterfall, had to be for a non-road purpose. I asked a couple of cast members about the rumored new coaster and they all knew about the rumors.

It is kind of a tight squeeze between the skyride and the hippo pond area of Edge of Africa so I wonder if the skyride is in danger of closing or will pieces of EOA be removed.
From Adam NodjomianThey may move some of the EOA exhibits to new locations (possibly explaining the permits) to mkae room for a new attraction.

From Tony DudaI got a close look at one of the survey stakes near the entrance to Rhino Rally and on it was "CL Rail" along with some ID numbers. In survey speak, CL means "center line" so the new coaster looks like it will indeed go from the skyway/monorail building to at least Rhino Rally. Unless this stake means that the railroad is being rerouted but that seems unlikely but still a possibility.
