Suggestions for a Labor Day trip?Looking for a theme park to visit with the family over Labor Day weekend
From Victoria Jurkowski
My family is lookikng for a weekend trip over Labor Day weekend and we're thinking we'd like to visit a theme park we've yet to attend. We have two young children and two teenagers, so the rides need to be diverse (big coasters and kiddie rides). It also needs to be within a 6 hour driving distance from Philadelphia, PA. does anyone have any suggestions?Posted August 25, 2010 at 7:52 AM

No idea whether you've been to these parks, but off the top of my head:Posted August 25, 2010 at 10:29 AM Great Adventure Hershey (little lacking on the kids rides, but they'll enjoy the park overall) Dorney (probably the best mix) Knoebels -Not much on thrills, but two world-class wooden coasters and a great variety of classic rides...best bumper cars (Skooters) and a terrific ride-through haunted house. Let us know what you decide on. Crowds may or may not be an issue. I went to GAdv on Saturday of Labor Day weekend two years ago and the park was virtually empty. The next day, I went late, and you couldn't move, but that could have been partially due to the Foreigner concert scheduled that night, which was the only reason I went late after riding so much Saturday. I'd also recommend Kennywood and Kings Dominion/Busch Williamsburg, but...geography being a weakness of mine..don't know if they'd fit your six-hour trip window.

seeing as how we've been to hershey and dorney, i looked up kennywood, busch gardens, and kings dominion and they're all less than 6 hours away. we decided on kennywood because it's closest and we found discount tickets. thanks for the suggestions! we can't wait for our trip!Posted August 28, 2010 at 11:53 AM

Bad timing...I had two free tickets I could have sent you. But I just mailed them to my brother near Pittsburgh last week asking him to give to one of his patients as a random act of kindness. Sorry. Kennywood's a great park..your family will have a blast. Ride Sky Rocket for me..I won't get there this season. Posted August 28, 2010 at 3:22 PM
