Theme Park Apprentice 2 Challenge 4: Live Show

Here's this week's challenge.

Welcome everyone to the 4th challenge of Theme Park Apprentice 2. Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios there are many new refreshing ideas coming out such as Toy Story Mania, Star Wars 2, and the rumored Pixar Place expansion. However, my main concern with the park is the state of its current shows. Disney’s Hollywood Studios currently features three shows that are almost, if not 20 years old! The oldest, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, I think should be replaced by the Indy coaster or adventure ride. The newest one at 18 years is Voyage of the Little Mermaid. I am thinking this will close soon due to the Little Mermaid attraction at Magic Kingdom. Personally, I am hoping for Animagique from France as a replacement. Lastly, the Beauty and the Beast show has been around for 19 years. This is what your challenge will focus on this week. To be honest, I have never been a huge fan of this show and have always felt that it does not do the movie justice. While it closed at Disneyland and Disneyland Paris in the mid 90’s, it still is on the theater of the stars stage. But in this week’s challenge you will be designing the replacement! For your replacement you may bring another Disney movie to life, combine Disney movies, or even invent your own musical show. There is not alot of limitations for what you can use in your show, besides having to be musical. For your show, include a list of characters involved, the length of the show (keep it around 30 minutes), a breif storyline, and the songs. Do NOT include dialogue for the show. It cannot be a remake of any other Disney theme park musical. I am glad that I am finally including this challenge, as it was supposed to be in the 1st season. I am looking forward to hearing all your ideas for this long running show’s replacement.

Why does it have to be a musical? this seriously crushes my very good idea. This park is all about movies anyway, not musicals. While the can incorperate to each other, that is a big limitation. Can it just be any kind of show?

DHS Musical Show

In a worldwide first Disney's Hollywood Studios proudly presents

"Choose your own Musical Adventure - The Archives of Mystery"

The Premise

Guests choose major plot lines of the performance by pressing multiple choice  devices attached to their seats. Each show has the potential to be very different from the last.

The Idea

Following on from the massive success of the Choose your own Adventure book series, this state of the art interactive experience is one of it's kind in the world and each show has the potential to be very different.  Story lines can be updated and completely changed every 12 months to ensure guests keep returning to this state of the art musical experience.

The Theatre

This intimate theatre is fully equipped with the latest in theatrical special effects and technology. With a wide stage with many surprises (trap doors, levels that move etc) Each individual seat  also includes it's very own effects including water mists and vibrations. Most importantly of all, a handheld device for choosing the plot of The musical is attached to each chair.

The Show

The first musical to be performed inside the Choose your own Musical Adventure theatre is the amazing "the Archives of Mystery"

Featuring a cast of 10 versatile performers, this show is all singing and all dancing and uses some of Disney's well known characters.

As the guests enter the theatre they notice they are in a major archive facility. The stage is bare, however we see 4 huge vault doors at the rear of The stage.

A "Tour Guide" named Sam stands on stage and ensures everyone is seated. Once all have taken seats the tour guide begins. Sam explains the premise of the production and how to control the multiple choice consoles. She then invites the audience to pick a vault. vault a, b, c or d. A Disney character is waiting behind each vault and we see a huge tally board light up above the stage.

The chosen vault opens with a creak and everyones seats vibrate with anticipation. The show begins with the audiences chosen character and leads on from there.

The resulting show includes brand new numbers and Disney classics, all chosen by the audience! At one stage the audience also gets to vote a performer off!

The basic storyline is that Disney needs your help to create it's brand new musical, and by voting you get to decide what the performers do, sing or say next!

The show is limitless with it's character choices! The show will be 25 minutes in length with 5 audience polls.

This show will have appeal for people of all ages, and the chance to see a different performance each time will bring the audiences back for more.

As my response to Nick's question:
You may do something other than a musical show, but your show better be good. For anyone that wants to do a standard show for a replacement, please include a bit more of a detailed storyline. I'd prefer that it would be a musical show, however.

I think I just might be able to turn it into a musical, but if not, I promise it will be good.

I won't be able to post until Sunday, since I'll be spending the weekend at HalloWeekends at Cedar Point with my kids, but I will announce my title (not that anyone will come up with anything this strange). My proposal for the new musical show at DHS is:

"THE MISS DISNEY VILLAIN PAGEANT"

I'll see you all Sunday!

Yes, you may create your own original songs, and you would need names for them.

Nightmare Before Christmas

So I was thinking of a underrepresented movie or character at WDW and Nightmare Before Christmas came to me. Why not? It has appeal to everybody, especially boys who are getting a slice of the magic lately, and it has some of the best songs of any animated movie in the past 20 years. This will be a musical retelling of the movie (as Finding Nemo, Beauty and the Beast, etc).
I will list the music (though it is pretty assumed), but I am more interested in the costuming. I really like the Jack and Sally in Disneyland.

Ok, well I guess I will remove the placement in the beauty and the beast theater as some people have not placed it there...

From Anthony Murphy
Posted October 28, 2010 at 12:25 PM
Mine can be moved to that area, no problem. I just picked the old Hunchback Stage because they rebuilt it as an indoor theater now. What do they use it for? I saw Star Wars Weekends in there and it was a nice theater that should be used more!

But Beauty and the Beast stage will work nice too! However, I doubt that the show is leaving anytime soon. It still seems pretty popular.

From Tim W

I guess it makes a bit more sense to utilize the hunchback stage in this case, and I actually wish that I thought of that besides having you guys create a replacement for beauty and the beast. But I will allow the musical/show to be placed anywehre now. Good idea btw Anthony.

I'd like to make an announcement about the current schedule of challenges. Due to the whole dropout thing we have been experiencing the past 3 weeks, some challenges will have to be moved around, and 1 more will not be in the competition. Next week will will be having our first ever pairs challenge with our remaining 8 contestants. Pairs will be assigned by me, to make sure no teams are uneven. As I previously announced, you will be designing two pavilions for this challenge. You will also have a week and a half to complete this challenge with your partner over email, im, texting, phone, or any other form of communication. So noone will have to post next weekend, but the following weekend. If there are any problems with your partner, please refer them back to me. Partners won't be announced until after the poll is complete this week. Keep in mind that I will try to put people who know how to post pictures and who don't know how to together.

As i stated above, one challnege will have to be saved for another time. That challenge will be the character dining challenge. We did already have a restaurant challenge, and since I do have to eliminate one challenge, I decided on this one. I know you guys are capable of creating really good restaurants, so we will save this one for another season.

Here is the new schedule
Challenge 5: Epcot FW and WS pavilions, 8 contestants
Challenge 6: Entertainment for Pleasure Island, 6 contestants
Challenge 7: Harry Potter Attraction (Note this does not have to be a show)
Challenge 8: Hotel for Universal Studios
Challenge 9: Land for Holiday World
Challenge 10: Busch Garden California

For this week’s challenge I decided to turn the greatest story ever told into the greatest show in all of Disney World. Be prepared to enter Star Wars: The Musical. It will be located at DHS replacing Indiana Jones stunt show spectacular. This show will combine with Star Tours to become an entire Star Wars section of the park. The shows location will be in the senate building seen in the three prequels.

http://www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/trailer/senate1.jpg

In the timeline of Star Wars this show will take place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi. It will be a celebration of all the valiant efforts of the characters in Star Wars. The amazing thing is that every year there will be a new show based on one of the films. Starting with Phantom Menace in 2010 and ending with Return of the Jedi in 2016. It will be a forty minute show that will please die-hard fans and newcomers alike. The stories of the movies will be condensed much like Finding Nemo at Animal Kingdom. There will be lightsaber fights and musical numbers all mixed into one great show. Every show will feature audience participation to help all audience members feel like they’re part of the action. The show will feature live elements and footage from the movies much like T2 at Universal. Star Wars: The Musical will have fun with the fact that it’s corny and be a great ode to all things Star Wars.

Here’s a list of some songs:

The R2D2 beat box

The force ain’t a farce

Vader the Hater (a rap)

Han Solo’s Bucket of Bolts

PIXAR PALOOZA
Heroes Vs. Villains
Pixar Palooza would be the first musical show added to the Pixar Place area of Hollywood Studios. The building housing the stage would be brand new with all kinds of special effects (more on that later...). The stage would have a large screen that would be used for effects. Oh, the show would be between 30 and 40 minutes long. It would be a mix between a musical and a live show.

Story: Basically, the Pixar heroes have planned to have a musical for the guests, and the Pixar villains want to crash it. Yes, I know it is sort of cheesy...

The first Pixar movie depicted in the show is none other than 1995's Toy Story. Characters such as Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Hamm, Rex, and all the other toys owned by Andy make appearances in this section of the musical. The characters sing along to the ever popular “You’ve Got A Friend In Me”, plus another brand new number called “To Infinity and Beyond”. It would be a rock and roll song, which differs from the slowness of “You’ve Got A Friend In Me”. The villain for this section is Sid, who sends his toys after Andy’s toys. He is unsuccessful, and the Toy Story segment ends, while all the toys cheer and party.

The next Pixar segment is 1998's A Bug’s Life. This segment would feature Flik, Dot, Atta, amd the P.T. Circus bugs. These characters would sing along to a new song called “It’s a Bug’s Life!”, which would be similar to a rap song, only no cussing or loud, annoying music. The loud, annoying beat would be replaced with bug sounds made into a cool beat. The villain in this segment is Hopper, who flies in (really an actor on strings swinging around) and seems to terrorize the actors and the audience. His grasshopper minions walk around stage and act crazy. Flik uses a homemade seed launcher to get rid of Hopper, and the segment ends.

The next part is Monsters, Inc. The characters of Mike, Sully, Boo, and many others make appearances. The ever popular song “"If I Didn't Have You" would be featured in this segment. The main villain of this segment is Randall, who comes and tries to send the audience to the Himalayas. The building would become very cold, mimicking being in the Himalayas. After a few minutes of cold, the cold goes away and the next segment begins.

Next segment is 2003's Finding Nemo. Marlin, Nemo, Dory, Bruce, and many other characters appear in this segment. The song "(In The) Big Blue World", from the ever popular Finding Nemo: - The Musical is the song that plays during this segment. The villain is Bruce, who sets off mines (like in the movie). Using special fire effects, this part of the movie would be recreated in this segment. After the mines are done exploding, the next segment is ready to begin.

Next up is The Incredibles. All 5 Incredibles, Bob, Helen, Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack, make appearances. The song for this segment would be an all new track called "Adventure Calls”. It would have the tune of the Incredibles theme song, but it would have words as well. The villain is none other than Syndrome, who sends in an Omnidroid (projected on the big screen), who destroys some of the building (more effects). The Incredibles stop him, and the next section begins.

Next is Cars. The characters here are Lightning, Mater, Sally, Doc Hudson, and all the other Radiator Springs residents. These characters are special because the actors/actresses are on roller skates, giving the feel of them driving around instead of walking. The song would be “Life is a Highway”. The villain has got to be Chick Hicks. Chick isn’t much of a villain, but he would try to do some sort of destruction. Of course, he would fail, and the next segment would begin.

Next up is Ratatouille. Characters that make appearances include Remy, Emile, Linguini, and more. The song played here would be a new song called “Just A Rat”. It would be a slow song with a French tune to it. The villain for this segment would be Skinner, who would “throw” knives at the audience, as if they were rats. Using the kind of seats used in 4D shows, the seats would poke you in the back, mimicking being prodded in the back with knives. Remy would stop him, and the segment would end.

Next at bat (figuratively speaking) is WALL*E. Characters such as WALL*E, EVE, M-O, and many others appear. The song played would be the original song “Down To Earth”. The villain would be Auto, who would shoot lasers everywhere. The effect is self-explanatory: it would be like an indoor laser show. Nothing would be destroyed, and the next section would start.

The next segment would be Up. Carl, Russel, Dug, and many others would be in this segment. The song would be brand new and would be called “Up We Go”, which would be a very moving song. The villain would be Muntz, who “shoots” the audience with his hunting rifle. This would be another 4D effect. Carl, Russel, and Dug survive, and the finale begins.

The finale would be a mish-mash of all the songs, and the whole cast would come out and give a bow.

Thanks for reading.

***The Princess and the Frog***

replacing DHS' Beauty and the Beast. The theater would be completely replaced and wall would be added. The walls would be screens that could change from New Orleans to the swamp. The whole room could be changed into a swamp by having overhanging tree limbs come down from the ceiling to the support poles being disguised as trees.

The musical would follow the storyline of the movie but would be slightly darker(it terms of the voodoo) to attract older crowds. A split stage would allow for one scene to be set up while the other has the show on. They would switch in order to keep the show at about 35minutes and no longer. The songs would include:

"Down in New Orleans"

"Almost There"

"Friends on the Other Side"

"When We're Human"

"Gonna Take You There"

"Ma Belle Evangeline"

"Dig a Little Deeper"

"Down in New Orleans"(Final)

Once a week, tickets will be sold for a new version with a live orchestra and an expanded musical. Tickets would be about $8.

Feedback would be great

I want to alert you right now- this is a long proposal, but PLEASE read the entire thing. Get ready for it. Go to the bathroom, get something to drink and snack on, and get comfortable. When you have finished reading it, you will have experienced- in its entirety-

Photobucket
(a J&S Production)

Some of the most wicked, nasty and otherwise unpleasant villains in animated history have come from the artists at Walt Disney Studios, and the female villains stand out for their sheer cold, calculating evil. Generations of film fans have debated on which Disney female villain is the worst- or best- depending on how you look at it. Disney Hollywood Studios has decided to answer that question once and for all and has invited the most famous lady villains from the Disney animated world to compete for the title of "Miss Disney Villain".

This competition is modeled on the Miss America Pageant, with all the glitz and glamour of that competition mixed with the evilness of the competitors and the entertainment talents of Walt Disney World. The pageant will be held in the Miss Disney Villain Pageant Theater (a major remodel of the former the Beauty and the Beast Theater), a state-of-the-art facility which will be specially designed to handle the complex technical demands of this wildly entertaining musical show. The audience will take part in nearly all aspects of this live theater experience.

The show curtain, black and looking like it is woven from spider webs, is down when the audience takes their seats. Pictures of the participating villains with their names are woven into the curtain, to familiarize the audience with those who they might not be as familiar with. When the audience is all seated, but before the lights dim, they see the curtain start to move a bit from the top, then the three good fairies from "Sleeping Beauty" are seen flying in from the top of the proscenium in front of the curtain.

Photobucket

They introduce themselves (Flora, Fauna and Merryweather) and tell the audience that they have decided to have a little fun with the villains, so they are going to play some harmless tricks on them during the competition. They encourage the audience, especially the children, to pretend that they don't see them on the stage, and don't let the villains know they are there. Then they fly back up and out of sight- for now.

The house lights dim, the music starts, the curtain rises and the two "hosts" for the competition, Jafar from "Aladdin"

Photobucket

and Queen Grimhilde from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"

Photobucket

enter from opposite sides of the stage, meet in center and turn to face the audience. They introduce themselves to the audience, say some of the usual silly yet totally evil things you would expect them to say, then introduce the contestants in this year's Miss Disney Villain Pageant. As they are introduced, the competitors make a grand entrance down a curved staircase at the back of the stage and parade across the stage, showing their evilness while trying to look glamorous. While Grimhilde introduces them, Jafar sings "An Evil Girl is Like a Malady" (to the tune of "A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody" by Irving Berlin). In order of introduction:

Ursula ("The Little Mermaid")
Madame Medusa ("The Rescuers")
Lady Tremaine ("Cinderella")
The Queen of Hearts ("Alice in Wonderland")
Cruella de Vil ("101 Dalmatians")
Yzma ("The Emperor's New Groove")
Maleficent ("Sleeping Beauty")

They form a line across the stage and take tacky dramatic poses to "show themselves off". The hosts lead the audience in applause (or boos as is appropriate), then they tell the audience that earlier in the week the contestants competed in swimsuit and formal gown competition. A screen will descend to show the winners of these competitions as they are announced. The winner of the swimsuit competition was Ursula, wearing a swimsuit made completely of electric eels, and the formal gown competition was won by Cruella de Vil, wearing a full-length gown made completely of $1000 bills that was then "given" to the judges. There was no winner of Miss Congeniality, since nobody entered.

The villains exit the stage as the hosts announce that tonight will be the talent competition, and the winner will be chosen by the audience, since the panel of judges for the earlier competitions was eaten by Maleficent for not giving her the formal gown title. They will reassure the audience that she has promised not to destroy them if she doesn't win- plus she is still full from eating that last judge. The hosts introduce each act, then leave the stage to the competitor. First:

Photobucket

Ursula glides onto the stage and announces she will be blowing bubbles (balloons actually) and twisting them into animal shapes. As she starts to do this (and she is really doing it and is really doing a good job) one of the good fairies quietly flies in behind and above her, quiets the audience if they respond to her, and every time Ursula makes a bubble creature the fairy waves her wand and the balloons pop, startling Ursula who gets more and more frustrated but continues to try. Each one gets popped, and she finally gets so frustrated that she stomps (slithers?) off the stage. The fairy flies out.

Photobucket

Madame Medusa walks on stage, stumbling on the way to her spot down center. She is going to do a stand-up Phyllis Diller-type comedy routine. As she starts, another of the fairies flies in while a sign flies in over Medusa's head that she doesn't see. While she is trying to tell a joke (all bad and corny) the fairy makes the sign light up which tells the audience to do things to spoil the routine. In the middle of the joke, the sign will tell the audience to start laughing before the punch line, totally confusing Medusa, but she pushes on. Next, when she gets to the punch line, it will tell them DO NOT LAUGH! The sound of crickets chirping will be heard- the ultimate insult to a comedian. She tries again, and the audience will be prompted to start coughing over her, to her complete frustration. This goes on for about three jokes total, then she throws up her hands in frustration and tries to stomp off the stage, tripping and falling down on the way. The sign flies out, the fairy gives the audience a "thumbs up" for doing a good job, and she flies out.

Photobucket

While Lady Tremaine enters the stage, a grand piano rises from a trap door center stage. She goes down front center to announce that she will be playing Chopin's Piano Sonata #2 (that is the song most people know as the Funeral March, but the audience probably won't know that until she starts playing it- then they will understand). While she is downstage, a fairy flies in, waves her wand at the piano (which will be suddenly lit with a weird magical lighting effect that soon fades), then flies out. Lady Tremaine turns to the piano (which she does not realize has been magically "treated") and begins to play. Gradually, both the piano and piano stool's legs start to get longer, so that they are slowly getting taller and taller. At first she doesn't realize what is happening, but eventually, when she is ten feet above the stage, she sees what is happening but continues to play, since the show must go on. Then the piano stool starts to slowly descend while the piano stays where it is, so she is soon trying to play over her head. The piano then lowers to the proper level, but passes her going down and she is trying to play it between her feet, perhaps using her feet to hit some of the notes. She still plays on, and finally the piano and bench lower to the stage level where they should be. She is almost finished, trying to get to the end, when the piano bench starts to slid by itself closer and closer to the piano until she is practically being crushed between them. Finally, as she gets to the end, the piano bench returns to its correct place, she finishes the song, jumps off of the bench to take her bows (and get away from the haunted piano) and as she is taking her bows both the piano and bench crash all the way to the floor. She jumps in shock and practically runs off stage.

Photobucket

The Queen of Hearts portion of the talent competition shows her abilities in doing- what else- card tricks! She uses a very large deck of cards so that the entire audience can see the tricks easily, and she calls up a volunteer from the audience to assist her. The first card trick goes fine, then when she sends the first volunteer back to their seat she decides to get someone from farther back in the audience. She leaves the stage and goes down into the audience to find another volunteer. While in the audience and with her back turned, a fairy descends and switches the cards on the table where the Queen left them, and flies off. Needless to say, the rest of the tricks go terribly wrong, and the Queen gets so angry that she starts screaming at the volunteer, and at the entire audience that it was all their fault, and stomps off stage screaming "Off with their heads!"

Photobucket

Cruella de Vil walks on looking as elegant and pompous as you would expect. She tells the audience that her real talent is fashion design and making money, none of which really do well in a talent competition, so her agent has forced her to do something that he has assured her would guarantee her a win in this competition, something that nobody would expect from her, something that would show just how incredibly talented she really is. A dog act. Not just any dogs, but she has trained 101 Dalmatians to do some of the most amazing acts any dog has ever been trained to do. The curtain behind her rises and a row of elegantly-designed dog kennels line the upstage area, all painted white with black spots with the doors closed but facing the audience. She continues for a minute, talking about the hardships she had to endure in the training, etc., while a fairy descends, waves her wand over the kennels (which are hit with the magic light effect) and flies off. Finally, Cruella calls off stage to "Open the doors!", which open and a dozen of the ugliest, scruffiest mutts anyone has ever seen come charging out onto the stage, running all over, barking at her and running off stage, while Cruella starts to scream that those aren't her dogs, they're not even Dalmatians! One of them grabs her dress and starts to tug at it, eventually pulling a (tear-away) panel off of it. She loudly mutters, "Wait until I get my hands on that agent of mine!" then storms off stage, where the audience hears dogs barking, growling, and Cruella screaming at them to "Get off of me, you mongrels!"

Photobucket

Yzma enters and attempts to walk sexily to front center of the stage, but is her usual outrageously over-the-top slutty self. She starts to sing "The Girl from Machu Picchu" to the tune of "The Girl from Ipanema" while a handsome, muscular Inca man enters.

Photobucket

She uses him as a prop, singing to him and admiring his muscles. During a section of the song when she moves downstage away from him for a minute, the fairy appears and waves her magic wand at the Inca man, who much to his surprise starts to lift off of the floor and begins to spin, and (using the same stage technology used on Broadway in "Beauty and the Beast") he is magically transformed into a llama.

Photobucket

The llama (an actor, of course) returns to the stage, and Yzma, totally unaware of what has just happened, moves back to him and during the song plants a kiss on his llama cheek. She screams, but the llama moves in on her to finish the big dance scene and she attempts to finish the dance with him. For the final part of the song she moves away from him, and the fairy reappears and, using the same technology, turns the llama back into the muscular Inca. He lands back on the stage, totally stunned with what happened, then when Yzma turns back to him, sees that he is now a human again and throws her arms wide as if to hug him, he runs in terror off of the stage, followed by Yzma chasing him.

Photobucket

Maleficent, Mistress of All Evil, appears on stage rising up from a trap door in a blaze of smoke and fire. Sitting on her shoulder is her pet raven, Diablo.

Photobucket

She looks at the audience with her usual evil contempt, and announces that she will be performing some magic for them, black magic actually, and that they will be her subjects. No volunteers will be needed- nobody in the audience has a choice- she will be turning all of them into something small, smelly, and easily stepped on. Just then, all three fairies appear and silently put a spell on Diablo (an a.a. creature) who suddenly looks surprised and confused. Maleficent does not notice this, but continues to start casting her magic spell on the audience. Diablo suddenly begins to sing, "In the Tiki Room", spoiling the spell and causing Maleficent to stop the spell and demand that he stop singing that intolerably happy song! She starts the spell again, but Diablo bursts into "It's a Small World" and she acts as though she is in pain from hearing such a song so close to her ear. She tries again, but now Diablo suddenly and at full volume breaks into "When You Wish Upon a Star", causing her to scream in agony and run off stage, trying to get away from the singing.

The three good fairies fly back on stage, saying to each other how much fun that was and thanking the audience for all their help. They tell them that there is still one more trick they want to play on the villains- remember, don't let them know! They then fly out.

The host return to the stage, looking confused by what happened but trying to save the show, telling the audience how wonderful those performances were and wasn't that interesting and other such silly ad-libs. They bring the villains back onto the stage, some coming on looking terrified to be back out there where such strange things happened. They line up across the front of the stage under a line of lighted round signs with the numbers 1 through 7, so that each villain is standing in order of their performances under a sign with a number on it. The hosts tell the audience that is it now time to vote, and to use the voting buttons on the back of the seat in front of them (each seat has a voting device with the numbers 1 through 7) BUT don't vote until the numbers on the voting buttons light up. Vote for the villain you want to have the title of Miss Disney Villain. Just then the fairies reappear and wave their wands, and all the numbers rearrange themselves, so that nobody is standing under their right number. The fairies fly out, then just when one of the hosts tells the audience to vote, and the lights come on the voting buttons, the other host sees that the numbers are wrong and cries out to the villains that they are under the wrong numbers! Quick, get yourselves under the right number! While the audience is trying to figure out what number to vote for, the villains are frantically trying to find their correct number, and there is total confusion in the entire theatre. Finally the villains find their correct new places and the hosts announce that the votes have been counted and they have the name of the winner. Madame Mim from "The Sword in the Stone" brings on the envelope.

Photobucket

There is a drum roll, and the hosts announce the winner is:

The winning villain will be changed with each performance- the voting doesn't really count, and this gives each performer the thrill (?) of being chosen Miss Disney Villain. The winner will act the usual way, surprised, thrilled, while the others try to put on a fake happy smile and applaud half-heartedly. Jafar brings her a spray of black roses, and Queen Grimhilde crowns her with a crown that, if you see it closely, is made up of a series of hidden Mickeys, upside-down with X's in the eyes looking like he is dead! Of course, the audience can't see this. The hosts step aside, and as the curtain descends, the other competitors rush over to the winner and, instead of hugging and congratulating her as in Miss America, they start to beat her up as the curtain closes. The good fairies reappear one last time in front of the curtain, as at the beginning of the show, and say to each other "Wasn't that fun?", "I can't wait until next year!" and they wave to the audience as they leave the theatre.

Gearing Up!

Disney is preparing for their next musical and decided to invite guests to their reheasals. This musical will include many songs and characters from all across the Disney genres and Movies.

The rehearsals will be interactive with th director and dance choreographer asking you questions whether the song and dance went well after each piece. Each seat will include a voting device o quest to vote and the ast can get feedback about the show. But there's a twist!

As the warm-up act is about to end detectives run up n stage and annouce to the crowd that there has been a crime! BOMBOMBOOOOOM!!!!

Yup this will be a mystery who done it, mixed up in a musical!

The actors, singers, and dancers will perform there various roles and throughout each piece will give subtle clues and tells. The audience will find out that there are cliques, friendships, and "relationships" among these performers which will help guest with making there picks.

You might see the performers accidently say something they shouldt, drop stuff, show something they shouldnt, make mistakes and see how the performers react to it whether it be disdain, hatred, simpathy or anything that can give something away and give the answer!

The performers will wear practice or stuff you might see at rehearsals for a real show. The characters are real and so will be there to practice for there next show!

Songs:
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Chim Chim Cher-ee
Prince Ali
A Whole New World
Down in New Orleans
Friends on the Other Side
Almost There
A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes
Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo
Beauty and The Beast

Characters:
Mary Poppins and Bert
Aladin, Jasmin, Genie and Abu
Tiana, Prince Navin, and Dr. Facilier
Cinderella, Fairy Godmother, and Prince Charming
Belle and the Beast, Gaston
Micky, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Donald

The songs and characters dont appear in this order but in this new "production" Gaston and Dr. Facilier will be the bad guys and antagonists.

The last couple songs will be a "dress" rehearsal with full costmes by the performers and the characters, even though they are already in "costume" will appear in there own special costumes also!

"Gearing Up!" will appear at the Theater of the Stars o Sunset Blvd.

Each show will be able to change due to new "mysteries" and who did what and how did it happen situations.

AT the end of each show the detectives will come back for a final time and bring out the 4 performers who think did the crime. They will ask the audience to vote for the person who they thought did it and then they will reveal who did it!

Oh and I hope everyone is having a safe and happy halloween!

I have to say I'm extremely impressed this week with the submissions. While I thought, but was hoping not, that it would be all movie recreations, you guys brought so much more than that. And even for the people who did movie recreations, I think you brought special things out to enhance your musical. Really great jobs so far.

I'm hoping to have the poll, next challenge posted, and this week's review posted by tomorrow. Remember next week that you will have to work with another contestant, and your duo will be fired instead of just one person. I will be assigning duos once the poll ends on wednesday. You will have to the following saturday to work. Hopefully this will be a fun challenge for everyone.

“They’re Mean, They’re Bad, and They’re Here to Ruin Your Happily Ever After!”

Theater Changes: Villains Live! Would bring in a whole new theater to replace the current one. It would be round and separated into two sections (a top and a bottom). Seats are first come first served, and the bottom usually fills up first because it’s closer to the action. But, the top section has its own fair share of perks.

Stage: The stage is split. The main stage is in the center of the theater. Another stage separates the top and bottom sections of the theater. The two seating sections have their own entrances so that guests don’t interfere with the show.

Alright, enough with the boring technical stuff, it’s showtime!

Scene 1:
The main lights dim, leaving only eerie reds and oranges. Creepy music plays and anticipation builds. Then all of the sudden, a puff of steam and an evil cackle as Scar (an AA) emerges from the center stage. The steam disappears and Scare begins to slink his way around the stage all the while explaining his evil scheme:
The heroes have always won, they’ve always been somehow better than the villains of the world. Scar plans on rounding up some of the worst villains around and proving once and for all that the villains truly are supreme.
He then breaks into his infamous song: “Be Prepared”, amid more fog and steam and fire, with a few revisions specifically for this show. Instead of him saying him saying “I will take over, etc.”, he says “We will take over, etc.” Below is a video of the song, just in case you’ve never seen it. AA hyenas also help out along the top stage.

Scene 2: As Scar finishes his song and is evilly laughing, strobe lights and blue smoke erupt from an area on the top stage. Ursula (real actress in a robotic suit) appears screaming “SCARRRRRRRRRRRR! HOW DARE YOU GO AFTER THOSE VILLAINS WITHOUT ME!” She goes on to say that she wants to help put those heroes in their rightful place. She also begins singing her own song: “Poor Unfortunate Souls” This is also revised for the show. It’s a duet with Scar and in this version the unfortunate souls are the heroes, so change the lyrics where it makes sense. Below is the video for this song.

Following the song, Scar and Ursula end once more with an evil laugh as the lights fade away and darkness consumes the whole theater.

Scene 3: A small flame alights in center stage and the song “Hellfire” from the Hunchback of Notre Dame begins playing. Judge Frollo is suddenly illuminated by a spotlight and he begins singing one of the best villain songs, ever. The revision on this song changes “his burning desire” to defeating the heroes. The fire increases in size as the song builds. As you can see in the video below, a woman appears in the fire. This effect would be replicated and heroes would be seen in the fire instead.

The fire dies away as the song ends and Frollo is left in what seems to be defeat, as in the video. Scar and Ursula appear from the shadows and tell him to join their cause to defeat the heroes.

Scene 4: The next part of the show is always a favorite. Fog fills the stage and the witch doctor from the Princess and the Frog rises from it. He goes toward the audience and picks the two people (actually cast members) from the audience. He seats them at a table resembling the one he had in the movie. He sings his song “Friends on the Other Side”, but it’s directed towards the people at the table, as opposed to the movie’s characters. The cast members are both replaced by frogs. Below is the song.

The three villains (Scar, Ursula, and Frollo) appear once more and recruit the witch doctor.

Scene 5: Once the witch doctor joins the cause, blue fire covers the upper stage and Hades appears as the fire goes out suddenly. Sorry, but I must have a tiny bit of dialogue right here because it’s too hard to explain otherwise. “Yo, Scarface, Fatopus, weren’t gonna invite me to your little anti-hero party? Wait, before you answer, I know I don’t have some catchy song or anything like that, but the least you could do was ask me, sheesh! Anyways, I joining and if you don’t agree well then face my evil minions!” he pauses “I said, face my evil minions!” The frogs then speak “oh ya, that’s our cue!” and magically the frogs transform into AA Pain and Panic! They make a weak roar and the other villains just look at them in pity. Scar then says “Hades, you’re welcome to join us, we’ll need all the help we can get, just leave the little pests behind.” Hades then says, “Great! Well Pain, Panic, you blew it, so adios!” “Bye Boss!” Pain and Panic say in unison before vanishing amid red and blue smoke. The stages go dark once more.

Scene 6: Simba (AA) appears on the top stage and he is talking to Ariel (Little Mermaid), Hunchback, Prince Naveen (Princess and the Frog), and Hercules. He explains that he has heard about how Scar and some other villains are planning to fight back against them the heroes, and that they must retaliate. They all agree. Then, across on the opposite side of the upper stage, the villains appear! The two sides split up as Simba yells “CCCCHHHAAARRRGGGEEE!” and Scar bellows “ATTTTTAAAACCCKKKKK!”. The villains meet their respective heroes and begin to battle. Hades is shooting out flames while Hercules fights back with sword and shield. The witch doctor sends out spells (sparks) while Naveen uses the traditional fists. The hunchback and Frollo go for hand-to-hand combat. Ariel (in human form) is barely able to get at Ursula because of her tentacles. The witch doctor and Ursula seem to have the upper hand in their fights, whereas the hunchback and Hercules seem to have the advantage in theirs. Simab and Scar seem to have disappeared from view. Just then, indoor lightning (yes, it is possible) appears in the center stage stretching from the ceiling to the ground. All the heroes, villains and guests look towards the stage. Fog, fire and more lightning surround an epic battle between Scar and Simba. Simba ultimately wins as a rain effect recreates the incredibly powerful scene from the movie. This victory gives the rest of the heroes new found strength and they conquer their villains. The heroes eventually break into song. This finale song is new and it’s called “Happily Ever After”. When you think grand finale song, you’ll think of this one for sure!

Thanks for reading, I hope you stayed riveted til the very end. I put a lot of effort into this one, so I really hope you all enjoyed it!

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE NIGHTTIME SPECTACULAR

Everything is pitch black. Silent. Suddenly, a young girl's voice begins to sing "A Pirates Life For Me". When she finished, and explosion, and the first of many pirate battles begin.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Nighttime Spectacular features a spellbinding story of action, mystery, and romance as the story intertwines the trilogy into an amazing show. There will be live action as well as water, fire, and other effects.

The show will feature the incredible music from the films. While one may not consider this a musical by brodway standards, the sets and acting would be much more realistic, and the music would make up for any sort of vocals, as it would feature a live orchestra.

The show would alternate every other night with Fantasmic!, which would solve any problems with the amount of money it takes to run Fantasmic! every night.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Nighttime Spectacular would be the ultimate night time show, full of dazzling effects, great acting, and the most amazing music made even better with a live orchestra.

Alright, thank you everyone for posting on time. I will now give my review of this week.

Nathan: I thought the premise of the show was very unique. I wish you got a bit more detailed by telling us some of the characters and the songs that would be included. But you were still one of my favorites.

Anthony: I really liked the idea of bringing the Nightmare before christmas here in a show form. I think you could have elaborated a bit more.

Jeff: I thought your idea was great. It sounds a bit funny, and was very creative. Star Wars the musical was one of my favorites this week.

Andy: I definately think that you stepped up and brought your A-game. It shows that you put alot of effort into yout show. While you said it was a bit "cheesy", I still liked the idea making it one of my favorites.

David: My favorite part was definately your theater description. I thought it would be very immersive!

James: Wow, what can I say? I think your blew your competition away again this week. Your my favorite of the week again, the first person to get it twice in a row. Marvelous work!

Dan: I liked the concept of having a mystery musical, but I was a bit confused on the overall show. I didn't see well how the characters you used connected to a mystery. I would have liked more specifics.

Adam: Killer logo. I thought this idea was good, but would probably be too close to that of Fantasmic.

Nick: I have to say that I was kind of let down by your proposal. I was expecting an extravegant pirates musical. I think you really stripped the story of your show downn alot.

^Because of time. I was going to actually make my own video and intertwine the scenes of the three movies into the story my show would have. It would still not be a musical, as the effect the pirates would have would not seem quite as menacing if they broke out in song. But yes, my story was shortened due to time. I don't want to back out of the competition, but my time for this seems to be becoming less and less which is all too bad. This was the one I thought I would have yet I just couldn't make time to put out my ideas!

Heres the synopsis for the next challenge:

Challenge 5: Duo Challenge, New Epcot FW Pavilion and WS country for 30th anniversary 8 challenges
It will be that time in a little bit less than two years. The question on many of people’s minds is if there will be anything for Epcot’s 30th anniversary. Well apprentices, I have received Disney that there will be. They asked for ideas from none other than the apprentices of Theme Park Apprentice 2. A team of you will be designing not one, but two pavilions for this glorious anniversary. You must work together to design one pavilion based on a scientific aspect for Future World and one International pavilion for World Showcase. This must be a group effort in designing both pavilions. For both pavilions, you must include one attraction, which has a name, a description, and the type of attraction. It may be a show, coaster, ride, etc. Also, please include a description of where the pavilions will be placed in Epcot. For the International pavilion, you must include a full service restaurant with the name, a brief menu, and theming. To avoid any repeats of the theming for the pavilions, I ask that you and your partner quickly agree on two themes and claim them here. Just to give you some help for a scientific pavilion, there are themes of magnetism, gravity, weather, physics, and chemistry available for your use. However, I am sure you could also think of a few more themes as well. You may NOT use health or a Horizons like theme as your FW pavilion theme as they both have been done before. And, of course there are plenty of countries to choose from. I hope that you all enjoy working together and this challenge will not be too difficult to complete.

Right now we have a 5 way tie between the contestants. I'd like to discuss what happens in this event. First off, if my favorite of the week is in a tie, he is automatically saved. Secondly, the person who will be fired in the event of a tie will be decided by adding this week's percentage to their cumulative percentage of the past weeks.

Yea this one wasnt my best. Anthony took my idea of Nightmare Before Christmas Show but he called it first.

I couldnt figure out how to adapt the characters other then them being secondary to the whole theme of the show. I figured that the show is more of a "Mystery" then "Musical" so I hoped that would come out of the description.

Of course after I posted and went to bed I had a revalation and a better idea then the one I posted!

Are you picking the teams?

From Tim W
Posted November 1, 2010 at 3:47 PM
Yup, to avoid any discrepencies with teams being unfair, I will be randomly assigning the teams in a specific manner. What I mean by this is that the 4 people that post pictures will be randomly working with one of the people that do not post pictures with their ideas. Two people that post pictures will not be together in this challenge just to be fair in that sense. The teams will be posted on wednesday after the next challenge is put up on the site. Then you must communicate with your partner ASAP.

Tim and others

It is with regret that I must pull out from this competition.

A change in personal R/L situation means I cannot devote as much time as I feel is neccessary to this comp. Secondly, the next task of duos is going to be to hard for me to work out due to the time zone differences.

Good luck to everyone in the comp and safe travels :)
